Eduardo had arranged a few things before everyone left. As he watched the landing party row to shore, he called Hervin over.
"Right, Hervin. This is your last chance. I'm doing this, but you can still bail out. I'll deny all your involvement and have gunner Schreaveport take over." Eduardo offered.
"Nah. I figure this is the best way to end this before it gets worse. I'm still in. Don't know if the captain will like it, this has never been done before. Guess there's only one way to find out." Hervin replied.
"Right, you set things up here. I'll be back in a heartbeat." Eduardo said.

Bellerusse was in the captains room, looking over some of the ship's charts. Eduardo barged in without knocking or calling, which resulted in an angry look for Bellerusse.
"Look Bellerusse, you don't like me. And I don't like you much either." Eduardo said before flinging his glove into Bellerusse's face. "So I issue you a challenge and a chance to settle this with the honor of an officer."
"You wanna fight, Calavera?"
"Who said anything about fighting. We'll settle this like real men, with a drinking duel."
"You're nuts Calavera. The captain won't allow that."
"Good thing I'm in charge of the ship for the moment." Eduardo said with a sly grin. "And to up the ante I'm betting you 25 Florins that I'll beat you."
Bellerusse gave Eduardo a nasty look.
"Do I actually have to slap you in the face, or will you act like a man? Or are you afraid of loosing to a landlubber?" Eduardo taunted.
"Right, you're on." Bellerusse gave in.

Outside on the deck Hervin was waiting and a crowd was starting to form. Eduardo came on deck and was met with a few whoops from the guncrew. Bellerusse was cheered on by  a few of the sailors.
"Hervin will judge the duel." Eduardo said.
"Fine." Bellerusse growled.
Hervin had three barrels put down. One large one, the other two were smaller.
"Ok, here's the rules." Hervin called out. "Both of you will sit down on a small barrel. Each will take turns and drink a peg of liqour. First one to refuse a drink or fall of the barrel loses. We don't stop if either of you has to take a piss."
Eduardo and Bellerusse sat down, both of them were handed a drinking bowl.
"Eduardo, what'll you drink?" Hervin asked.
"Brandy." Eduardo replied.
"I'll take rum." Belleruse followed.
Hervin took out a coin. "Ok, as Eduardo is the challenger, Bellerusse gets to call the coin."
"Tails."
Hervin flipped the coin.
"Tails it is, Eduardo begins."
Eduardo downed his first peg of brandy in a single gulp.

Bellerusse, having been at sea for a long while and lived with all sorts of sailors and scallywags, was no pup when it came to drinking games. He easily downed his rum in a single gulp.
"Your turn, landlady."

Arcturus led his group over to a bay in the center of the island, where there were some ruins. They got out of the boat, leaving a couple of sailors to watch it, and approached the ruins. Before them was a crumbled wall with all sorts of runes and characters on it, though most were obscured by moss and vines. Arcturus ripped a couple of vines off and observed the runes while perusing the journal. "These aren't just mere wild Durok ruins...this looks to have once been a fortress of the Ancient Tchilitan Empire, forerunners of the Tuletans we know so well. This place is most likely booby trapped. We must be careful."

As Simon worked he whistled a soft melody. The snake watching him stared and swayed slightly as the tune went on, not biting Simon as he worked, even when Simon got rather close to the snake's head. Under the snake itself there was a bone of some kind, not very uncommon in these parts (Simon had seen at least twenty others in the reeds).

It was when Simon cleared most of the leaves that he stopped whistling. There, sitting down and looking at him, was a small Durok child. It looked underfed, ragged, dirty and hurt. Its only possessions were the knife it was carrying, a small, strapless pack and the rags that it wore for clothes on its back. For a second they just stared at each other, and then the small Durok's knife flashed out, pining the snake's head to a reed. Quickly the Durok snatched up its prey and ran out of arms reach, warily watching Simon.

Simon chuckled softly to himself, knowing that the small Durok meant him no harm. He wondered how long it had been out here, and if it was alone. "No matter." He mumbled to himself, "As long as nothing happens, I don't see the harm." Softly, Simon began to hum a Durok song. The child looked at him in wonder and its stance became more relaxed. It moved tentatively one step... Two... and then it sat down. Not willing to come any closer to Simon then it was already.

Simon had finished picking what was needed. By the muted curses and yelps of pain that his sharp ears could make out, his companions hadn't, so Simon sat down on his heels, just looking at the small Durok. Still humming, he reached out a hand to the small creature, patting it on the head. Quickly it jumped back, holding its crude knife at  the ready, fear easily readable in its eyes. Frowning, Simon stopped singing and they stared at each other again.

Slowly but surely, the Durok's knife lowered, and it sat down again. Chuckling to himself a second time, Simon asked it in slightly mangled Durok, "Do you want t' hear more?"

Again, shock shown in the small Durok's eyes, but it nodded vigorously. "Alright." Simon began to sing the Durok song he had hummed for Alaric in the brig, only this time he added the words as well. The child began to cry from its simple beauty as the old bedtime song was repeated to it. Without warning, the child ran over to Simon, dropping its knife in the reeds, and latched onto his leg.

"Papa."

Simon stopped singing.

It cried, not releasing his leg at all from the death grip.

"Papa." It repeated.

"Aw hell. Now that was one of those thing that I didn't want... Um, Geralt? We have a minor issue!" He called to the group.

Simon picked up his pack and hobbled awkwardly over to Geralt. "Little one," He told it, "do not be afraid, this is a good man." The only reaction he received was the little Durok's claws digging into his leg... But though it had claws that could easily puncture most metals and it was holding Simon's leg in a death grip, the Durok child wasn't even able to puncture his pants legging. "How long has he been out here...?" Simon mused again.

"Geralt, I think you're right, this Durok is injured. But I also think that the poor child is also half starved and hasn't had any parents for quite some time. You take care of the first two, and I'll take care of the second."

Geralt examined the little durok.
- Scratches, a stabbing wound and a misplaced knee joint. Amazing how it can still walk let alone survive and evade death by bleeding. Ok little one, now you feel a little sting and your hurting leg will be just fine again.- He said and returned the joint. The little durok squeaked and moved the leg. He briefly smiled at Geralt.
- Now it will hurt a little more, but soon you'll be up and running. Armin! Give me that brandy you brought along. Don't play stupid, I saw you snatch a bottle right before getting into the boat.- The confused pirate gave him the bottle. Geralt wet a piece of cotton with it and started cleaning the durok's wounds. The child whimpered.
- I know it hurts, but you must be brave. This is a must if you want to live and grow big and strong. Ok, it's all done now.- Geralt opened one of his bandolier pockets and took out a roll of linen bandage. He then bandaged the little durok. Mostly his arms and chest were injured. Soon enough, the child was curiously examining the bandages.
- Now then. I have all the beanleaf I need. We'll now go to a nearby meadow, right near that pine grove we saw when rowing. The child's teeth are to weak to chew on meat for now. There's a load of berries and wild potatoes growing there, so I think I can prepare a light but sating meal for him. And also watch your step. Though the local snakes are harmless, their sting isn't most pleasourous one. Simon, you'll have to carry your uhm... son.

Eduardo downed another brady. He offered his bowl to Hervin for a refill. He offered Bellerusse a beardy grin. He was still fine.
"How many is that Hervin?" Eduardo asked.
"That's your 15th. You must have an iron stomach, you might as well been drinking milk all this time." the quartermaster replied.
"Yeah, well those tales you hear about how hussars drink and swear and womanise. Those are all true. And when it came to drinking we beat them every time. Hahaha! You Ok, blowhard?" Eduardo ended with a taunt to Bellerusse.
Bellerusse looked like he felt the effect of the 14 previous pegs of rum.
"Kwyet you." Bellerusse slurred before he downed another rum. He wobbled a bit before offering his bowl for a refill.
Eduardo was given his next brandy.
"Don't tell me you've run out of insults already. I was looking forward to hearing another one." Eduardo said. He poured his brandy down his throat and gave the bowl back. "Ahhh, like the kiss of the Fire Goddes. It burns, but you will always want another."
Eduardo gave Bellerusse another taunting grin as the peg of rum was poured for the navigator.

Arcturus had finished his survey of the ruins and had collected a couple artifacts as well. "These will pitch a good price for those Nerbulian archaeologists."

Mat, Fogan, and their crew had gathered enough supplies and had rowed back to the ship and loaded up the food.

As Arcturus and his group went back towards the boat, they met up with Geralt and Simon's group.

"Ho there!" yelled Davaian. "How's been the weed picking?"

- It goes better than I expected it to be- Said Geralt with several flowers wich bore yellow and orange blooms in hand.- we had found something more interesting than a rare herb.- He nodded towards the durok child, who was greedly eating potato and berry mush which Geralt hastily prepared.- Watch how you pick the Johnweed Miguel! Pull from the bottom or use a damn sickle for god's sake!-Geralt than turned to Davaian- thank gods that the douches hadn't cut themselves with the reeds in the marsh. The wounds heal slow. This meadow has most of the herbs I need from this island. The next one has more exotic variety. And a large durok ruin. Never ventured further into it. Near a temple there is a great site where several rare orchids grow. Don't step on it you moron!- Geralt yelled at a man from the captain's group. The flower's bloom looked similiar to a shoe.- the extract of the plant is used in most antidotes.
- Should I pick it then?
- No. Leave it growing. I have all the broadleafed slippers I need. We must gather smartly. If we pick too much, the herb will be driven to extinction. So we must leave some, that they could repopulate the field with their kind. - Geralt looked at the scroll with the list in it.- Hmm. Looks like I have almost everything I need. Except for the horseradish roots and seeds of the black rosemary. And your expedition?- Geralt asked.

"Arcturus read his book whilst walking around the entire ruin. Its a wonder he didn't walk into anything. He gathered a couple pieces and then left. He also jotted a couple of notes into the journal as well. I don't know what he is doing exactly, but I suspect that he is using the ruin as some sort of guide or something." replied Davaian.

Kalthak went over to the Durok child and spoke in Durok, "Do not fear, child. Where are your parents?"

The child did not respond to Kalthak, but hid close in by Simon's leg.

Meanwhile, aboard the Revenant.

Bellerusse had slipped off the barrel in a drunken sleep, leaving Eduardo victorious, though still on the drunken side. The guncrew and some others cheered, while Bellerusse's friends and Nurgunnen's former raid crew grumbled a bit.

Suddenly, a yell from the crow's nest. "SHIP AT PORT!"

Hervin quickly grabbed a spy glass and ran to the portside of the ship. After observing it for a couple seconds he handed it to Eduardo and said, "Fortrind War vessel. Not just a normal one too. It's a Man-o-War...and it has the Royal Crest on it too. Someone very important is on that now. Not someone of the Royal family I'm thinking. But probably an admiral or ambassador. Judging by the amount of cannons and soldiers on it...I'm thinking an Admiral."

Eduardo grabbed the spyglass and looked for himself.
"Hmmm, you're right. We're down a great portion of our crew. They outgun us. They seem to outnumber us. <hic> Our chances of escape are now drunk asleep or locked in the brig. And several of us are criminals in their books." Eduardo thought out loud. "<hic> So we either do this sneaky like, or we see if we can wheedle out this. Either way we need to get someone to the capitan and get them to stay ashore a while longer. <hic>"
"You sure you're up to this?" Hervin asked.
"Hehehehe, don't worry about it Compañero. I've rode into battle more drunk than this." Eduardo said. Then he raised his voice.
"Alright sailors, Show's over. Guncrew to your battle stations. Prime the cannnons. Hervin get a few lubbers to row back to the capitan and warn him to stay on the island untill I give the all clear. Keep those hatches closed! I want them ready, but not showing. Crow's Nest how far away are they?"
"Two, three miles at most!" the reply came.
Eduardo quickly ran some calculations. "Curses, that's too close. Making a run for it is suspicious now." He raised his voice again.
"Right, you and you! Run down to the brig and get Willhelm out. Make sure he understands that this is an emergency and he returns there when this is over. Your four, get something, anything! And paint over the name of this ship. Hervin! What kind of flags do we carry?"

"Do not fear, child. Where are your parents?"

"Kalthak... I think that the child's parents are dead." Simon whispers in his friend's ear. To the small Durok he whispers, "It is all right, little one. No one will hurt you. Your papa is here and you can trust him." Simon used his assurances and gentle persuasion to get the small Durok out from behind him. "Do you have a name, little one?"

In Durok (A somewhat old dialect) the child answered, "Aralon papa..." he held out his arms to wrap himself around Simon's neck. Simon picked up the small Durok and held him at eye level.

"Well, Aralon. This is uncle Kalthak. And that, over there, is grumpy uncle Davian!" He called out this cheerfully in human. "Can you say hello to them?"

Aralon didn't, instead the little Durok burrowed his face into Simon's shoulder and tried to look small and unimportant.

((Note, Simon's accents could fool most Duroks into thinking that Simon is one of them if they couldn't see his face, though the dialect doesn't seem to be too modern.))

After being explained the current situation in the brig Willhelm rushed up to the bridge so he could position himself by the helm. He didn't even greet the Quartermaster or the gun-chief Eduardo as he reached the deck, but just hurried past them and up to his post.
-Hey, someone get me a spy glass will you?! Willhelm yelled. I'd like to take a look at that ship myself, see what kind of sail their using. And after being lent one by Eduardo and scouted the ship's sails, where they were fastened and how they were hoistd.
-D@mn that's some first-class cotton sails, the latest type that exists. And the way their  fasted. Willhelm whistled. Not to loose and a firm hold. Absolutely the best for fast saling and agile manoeuvres. But not very good endurance. Too long a chase with too much manoeuvering will weaken them, could even make some of them break. He chuckled.
-In other words. He turned towards Eduardo. Should we try to make a run for it, there's a chance, a very slim chance but a chance nevertheless, to outrun them. He paused and turned towards the war ship with a grim expression. What worries me though, are those guns. There must at least be a hundred of them. Meaning our chances of an opportunity to try and escape, are even less than the chances of outrunning them. Well it's your call gun-chief. I'll be at the helm whatever you decide.

"I don't want to make a run for it yet. That would be suspicious. That ship is a prize, but it's not close enough to gauge it's actual strength. Also running now, would leave a great deal of our crew and officers on this island here. However rushing in, means almost certain death. No, if we're doing this, we're doing it smartly." Eduardo said with a grin to Willhelm.
A crewman came running to Eduardo with a bucket of tar. "Will this do, Chief?"
"Yeah, it'll have to. Just make sure the name is illegible." Eduardo answered.
He turned to Willhelm again.
"If we make a run for it, I wanna do it during night-time to give us a little more edge. Attacking just the same. If they're asleep and we give them a full broadside, we get a free shot. But I'm not deciding yet. I'm quite interested what that ship's doing here."
Then Eduardo turned to the longboat that was let down.
"Ok lads, make sure that the capitan stays on the island untill I send for him."
Then Eduardo raised his voice again. "Hervin! What's keeping those flags? Don't tell me you're such amateurs that you're not carrying several flags."
The he turned to another sailor. "You! Go find Lianna and get her here to the helm, on the double!"
