what's a duel hero?
hi,
what are duel heroes in tote? never heard of these before and I don't know what they do. Also, I can't find any explanation for their purpose/features on your sister site (heroesofmightandmagic.com) either

In Heroes 5 (and Heroes 6) you have multiplayer option known as duel. That is only a battle between two players. Duel heroes are predefined heroes (they already have skills, spells, artifacts and creatures) that you can select to play with. This is a list of all duel heroes, but as you said, you already visited that

I see... sort of
But what are they predefined by? Or by who? And why would you play a single duel instead of the whole game? I don't get it

They are predefined in-game (by game creators ), though there is a duel-preset editor in heroes 5 that makes you create your own duel hero, though I have never used it. Sometimes it is fun to play only one battle with your friend instead of a whole game, and it is faster

There are also the Duel Maps, which are essentialy small maps where you can level up your hero at your wish and mix a balance between army, artifacts and mentoring - Elvin made several versions of them back in the day, and he even tried one in H6
You should find them on this subforum, but I warn you, these maps where made for Human vs Human battles, doubt the AI would work there

interesting addition to the game. But I'm not keen on playing duel games any time soon, I was just curious what this was as I never heard of it in other heroes games (I still play Heroes 3 and 4 today, albeit rarely, but in these 2 versions of HOMM there was no such thing as duel heroes, hence my confusion and questons). Anyway, I got it.... at last

thanks! I finally got the thing with these duel heroes. Also, it's not a bad concept indeed as it does save time for a game like Heroes. I think however it takes from the fun of playing the game. But what do I know? I only play against the AI

They may take away the fun of exploring, building your towns, creeping, etc...but it's fun in its way. At least Duel Maps, because you had lots of different situations - random faction, random hero, skills & perks when level up and later with mentoring, random artifacts, alternative creatures...I have good memories of that times
The great thing of Duels is the fact that they save you a lot of time, just quick battle where you have to play better than your opponent (although luck played a good part too)

How can you have random of everything if the heroes are predefined? I guess I'll have to try this myself and see first hand what this is all about. I'm wondering though, if I can play duel heroes against the computer...

I was talking about Duel Maps (you have to download them). Don't confuse them with Predefined Duels (which are showed on the main menu --> multiplayer ---> hot seat)
