Kayna said: I played heroes 5 until I encountered a bug where I couldn't attack with my griffins without moving. A quick uninstall soon followed.
But why? It isn't a bug that would ruin a game too much.

It certainly ruined my formation lol. What if you play chess, then suddenly you're not able to do a move that you're supposed to be able to? Screw that game too!

Heh. A simple bug like that one can make the difference between victory or defeat against someone that is good enough. Not sure if I'm the one used to quality games and baffled by Ubisoft's lower quality standard or if you just crossed the fan boy line.

I do not recall that bug. Was it in H5 vanilla?

Don't remember, it's been years. Installed the game, updated it, then started the haven campaign. Was trying to attack with my griffins without moving but I couldn't, even if the enemy was touching said griffins. Was kidn of pissed cuz they were supposed to protect my shooters and moving them meant exposing said marksmen. So yeah, just left the game.

I understand you, I'd probably do the same But I haven't encountered the bug and I've played H5 from it's begining.

Well, I must've been really unlucky then, because considering how fast I encountered the bug, I assumed it was a very common occurrence lol.

After the griffins dive they land on a random nearby position. For the bug to occur they must land EXACTLY on the unit they dived on and I think the enemy unit must be large too? Low odds of that happening

OK hear about this bug I am sure it only happened to me.
I was playing multi with Kispagat on Darkrealm.
My main hero was one tile short of a stack on the map and had no movement not even 50 pts for half point. So I get his whole army with secondary and move it somewhere else. My main hero sits there again with 0 movement points and I click on the stack like 10 times in a row and it says no movement points every time just for the bullsnow you can imagine but after a few more clicks I got in the fight...
good that Kispagat believed me and gave a reload.

Did anyone find out, how Heroes VII geometry works anyway? If basic length unit is 1 mp and the game doesn't seem to know fractions, then how much does a diagonal move cost?

And that is why squares annoy me. With hexes 1 movement is always 1 tile, no need for fraction shenanigans. No forced 2x2 sizes either.
It's just cumbersome and artificial.

Isn't it actually the square root of number 2?

It is, but approximated to 1.41. Values after second decimal place are to small to be considered relevant.

I thought you asked about terrain movement. Desert has impact as well 3 straight movement for 4 points. Diagonal 3 times costs 6 points. But actually these are slightly less because my hero with 23 movement managed to make 4 diagonals.

Again, how do you reconcile hexes with big creatures?
