So, I recently began playing HoMM3 again after many years. Of course I modded it (this and HotA).
I realized that my heroes weren't using spells with auto combat. Come to find out, it's because HD+ was on.
I looked at https://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/description/hd_plus

I can assume this is to blame? I mean, if I have "use spells in auto combat" I expect that to be the case.
For now, I just turned off HD+ and accept the fact I can't redo the fights, which sucks, but it beats not using spells.
Please fix this.

Have you tried in the HD Launcher Settings=>Tweaks, to set "Auto combat spells" to 1 instead of 0?
And between us, who uses auto combat anyway, IMO the feature exists only to avoid boring fights when hero is largely superior and enemy stack will flee in such case.

I use auto because I value my time more than a few skeletons.

FWIW, it's much simpler to get the Chronicles campaign files, put them into the respective directory and play them as custom campaigns in H3 SoD/Complete/HotA.

Guys, i have a problem with HD mod (i think it is a problem with HD mod, actually. I was using HD mod all the time and BANG one time it just started working incorrectly. Firstly, it crushes from time to time when i open the game - not everytime I open Heroes 3, only SOMETIMES, lets say once every 3 times or so. It crushes with a message "Some files are missing, reinstal h3" or something really close to that. When it doesn't everything looks like it it working fine, but deffinitely it doesn't - random maps look to be more buggy than normally (a lot), and playing multiplayer is difficult, because it crushes every 1-2 turns exactly during giving turn to the opponent by either me or opponent. I tried literally EVERYTHING. Searched internet, reinstalled game, old and new versions of HD mod, reinstalled different copies of h3, did it all on 2 different computers - one is a laptop with Windows 7 or 8, and another is a PC with windows XP. Every single snowing time it is THE SAME - and when I do not use HD mod it looks like the problems do not happen, but i do not know, i didn't try playing online without HD mod (so time devouring to do all those movements without HD mod  ). Please, help me... It looks like I have a problem, that nobody else has, on TWO differnet computers... I do not know, whats going on, but it looks like one of the strangest things ive ever seen.
Sorry for typos etc. but my stupid computer underlines every english word (im from Poland)

Did you download the newest installer freshly from the HD mod homepage?
Did you make sure that nothing of the old copy is left?
Maybe it's a problem with the user permissions. Try installing/starting as admin (rightclick --> as admin)
Also for a possible permission problem: try installing to a different path NOT in "programs" folder (e.g. to C:\test\homm3 ) because that folder is treated differently by the system (both win7 and 8).

My copy also stopped working a few days ago with same message about missing files (when it had worked fine before and I had played it a day or two before with no problems). Running H3 Complete on its own (same install..same folder) works fine.
I'm still using XP (old computer) so unlikely any permission issues.
When I try to update it says a new version is available and downloads until at some point it tells me that some file was downloaded with errors and I can retry or abort (eventually having to abort after it keeps failing).
It H3 Mod currently working correctly for anyone?

Mine has never been installed in the "programs" folder.
Just now I got the newest H3 Mod from the official site and I also reinstalled H3 Complete. H3 Mod installed and even updated without errors now which is good but although it loaded once, after that it was (at first), still giving me the errors about some missing H3 files and telling me to reinstall Heroes 3. I tried it a bunch and then came back here.
And now I just tried it again (a moment ago) and amazingly it worked (three times in a row) so I don't know what's up with it. I haven't rebooted since either. It just seems..temperamental.
Now that it's decided to work, I'm hoping it will continue. Good mod!

Well i do not remember actually, but i think i did download form their page, and after that i always just update it to newest version when one is released.
I didnt make sure that nothing is left, i am as good at IT things, as Ufretin in being a main hero  so i dont even have any idea how to do it.
Problem with user permissions? with WINDOWS XP?? You must be joking, right? And on that laptop i obviously tried to run it as admin and obviously it didnt help.
And last thing You wrote is ALSO only about newer systems, while i am (and always was) using MOSTLY my PC with windows XP, on which this game always works perfectly well. I only tried to install it on another computer, and i had only a laptop with win 7, but it's not my main computer and i don't give... anything about if h3 will work on it or not, if it does on my windows XP PC XD. So if the problem was as You described it, it would only happen on win7 and not on win XP, right?

No, you're right. WinXP doesn't even have a UAC.
Now problems have come up also for me.
Some things seem to be messed up with the new updates RC8/RC9.
For example HD_Launcher.exe was renamed to HD3_Launcher.exe so my link didn't work anymore.
And during the update process it always said "File_HD3_Data\Settings\#default#default.ini was downloaded with errors."
No matter how often i pushed retry, it's always the same. So i had to click "abort" and it cancels the whole installation.
No rollback possible (button is greyed out). 
Well, now i hope for a new better working update and i may just install it completely new.

I found another h3 copy on my C:/Program Files/3DO, but it was not a copy of h3, more like some files somehow connected to h3 - maybe even some files of the game, but with no .exe and so on, some of the files were .rar. I have my version of h3 on C/Program Files/GOG/Heroes(...) Because i had it all on disc D before, and wanted to put it somewhere else when my problems started. But after i tried to delete that "copy" of h3 i newly discovered on my disc, it said that one or more programs are using this file and it cannot be deleted (!). But what is Unlocker for so i forced it to delete that folder. After that i tried to open H3HD something like 20 times and an error didn't occur, but I have no clue if the reason was i solved the problem or just was lucky (unlucky? no idea how to look on it). If it was the real answer to the problem, I still have no idea why I had the same problem on my laptop, which was JUST a week or a month or so after reinstalling the system (in Polish "format dysku", no idea how is it called in English lol)and I DIDN"T use that laptop much after that... No clue.
EDIT: DIDN'T help, obviously.

HotA is an add-on and while is very faithful to the original HOMM3 spirit it changes some things on gameplay aspect yes, on top of adding a tenth town, namely Cove. AFAIK there is no Cove version for ERA (wog), but there is a mod which enable XXL size maps. Since you seem to be a purist I recommend you also install Safe SoD (you can also disable all wog features in the menu). Check HERE.
HDMOD is independent from all this, and is compatible with Hota, ERA and SoD. I should note there is Cove for VCMI but this project is still under development and testing phase thus not that user-friendly atm. Maybe you can work some things out if you program a bit, and you can ask for help in their forum.
So as of today you can't have Cove within pure SoD.

Alright. Thanks for your answer. Yeah i guess i'm a purist mostly at least. I think HotA's new additions are nice, ESPECIALLY the new map sizes, but i just don't like the nerffed Necropolis and Conflux. I played WoG earlier, but grew bored really fast because imo it is a mess. So the original HOMM3, with the HDmod is the best for me.

Hello, what do you think about few optional tweaks for this mod (I send this for the author of mod):
<Heroes_max_level> = x (so tactics during battle and artifacts will really matter now)
<Magic_guild_max_level> = x (no description needed)
<Capitol_income> = x (it's clear also)
<sqrt_primary_skills> = x (square root of skills added for armies ie. if a hero have 9 att/def the army will have +3 att/def - for more ingame balance) or even
<half_primary_skills> = x (9 att/def army have +4.5 round up +5 att/def)
It's enough.

I get some screen tearing when playing HoMM III. On my computer it's more or less fine, but on my brother's setup (a much faster one) you can clearly see this happening on the world map when moving the cursor. Even when launching the game and the 3DO logo appears, the screen tearing is present...
Would it be possible to fix this in the HD Mod? BTW, does the HD Mod support 60 FPS mode? This could actually help.
