To provide stability, you'll have to use HD Mod installed over the whole "H3 + H3SW" chain on newer systems.
Anyhow, we have a big restructuring of the mod in mind for future releases.

"ironfist" mod for HoMM2 has it
although IMHO it does not fit all that well visually - looks too thin/skinny, especially compared to HoMM2 version of hydra
