Installation

After i changed my motherboard to an ABIT IS7-E I could not install my heroes of might and magic 3 and 4.
I don't know what is happening and I couldn't contact the 3DO to argue this situation. I really miss this game, so, if you know how to fix it, please, tell me. I would apreciate a lot.
If you can as well, email me to grandfox@brturbo.com.

Need 2 know more ;)

Hiya,

well, the way you put it, I can't give a you proper sollution..
You need to tell more than this..

FI: If you reinstalled the OS, e.g. Windows Xp, maybe the user doesn 't have enough rights to install?

Changing just only your mainboard cannot affect game installation

I need to knwo more, such as: did you change/reinstall the OS, do you use the original CD (or a 'copy'), and most important; what where the messages you got when you tried to install

tell me as much as possible, then -maybe- I can hand you a proper sollution

I use windows xp and the same problem that I have with the Heroes 3 I have with Heroes 4. I haven't changed my OS. The problem happens just before the system test... so I don't know exactly what to do. I tryed to install the game in some friends computer... in 1 computer it worked, in another it didn't.. so the problem isn't the cd... nor my computer only.
  "AppName: _ins5576._mp AppVer: 5.53.168.0 ModName: chkreqs.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000067c6"
That's what the problem is... chkreqs.dll ... I haven't found it in my computer.   Thanks a lot.

k..

Here 's what you need to do:

The CHKREQS.DLL checks your system to make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements.

On some AMD machines there is an error in the way the information is queried. The workaround for this is as follows:

Launch the Heroes III installer and select Yes or No at the DirectX prompt (it does not matter which is selected).

At the welcome screen, minimizethe installer window.

Click on the "Start" button in Windows.
Click on Find (files and folders). Make sure you are set to look in your C: drive. AND/OR the harddrive you installed the OS & Heroes
In the named box type in chkreqs.dll. Then hit the "Find Now" button.

Delete all the files.
Close the find box after you delete the files. To make sure that the files are deleted, empty your recycle bin (if you have Norton Utilities installed make sure you empty your "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" a s well).

Switch back to the Heroes III installer and continue as normal.

There's just one problem...  I couldn't find the chkreqs.dll in the find prompt at start menu. I tryed this before but i had no results. This time I tryed as you said... I minimized the screen during the installation but I had no sucess though.
I think that this find resourse finds the occult files as well... but it didn't find a thing.

You have got an AMD pjuter dont u?
The DLL mentioned is used on AMD machines, did you have an AMD processor before the mainboard upgrade?

Try upgrade your Windows version aswell, eg; install SP1

A little more detail on what he was talking about.

1.Launch the Heroes III installer and select
YES or NO at the DirectX prompt.
2.At the welcome screen, minimize the
install by selecting the left-most button
at the top of the installer window.
3.Open either 'My Computer' and navigate
to your C:\Windows\Temp folder.
4.Once you are in the 'Temp' folder look for
a folder called _istemp#.dir (where # is
any number). If there are more than one
folder that look like this, select the one
with the highest number and double click on
it to enter this folder.
5.Once in the folder locate the folder called
_istmp0.dir and double click to enter this
folder.
6.Locate the file called chkreqs.dll and
delete it. (If you cannot locate this file,
select the View option at the top of the
window and then Folder Options. On the View
tab you will see a list of options, select
the Show all Files button. And press OK).
7.To make sure that the file is deleted, empty
your recycle bin (if you have Norton
Utilities installed make sure you empty your 'Norton Protected Recycle Bin' as well).
8.Switch back to the Heroes III installer
and continue as normal.

Same help forum maybe?

I have done as you instructed, but unfortunately I had no sucess. I started my install and selected no in the DirectX install (because i have a highter version of it). In the welcome screen I minimized and entered in my computer as you said. I found the _istmp0.dir folder, but it was already empty. After, I selected to show all files and to make sure that there was no files in it, I saw it's size, that was 0kb.
Please, help me find what's wrong with my machine. I have done all the windows updates such as SP1, but it didn't change a thing. I don't know what more to do.
    Thanks....

Did you wipe off and install a clean windows after changing motherboard? If yes, I have no idea what could help. If no, I suggest you to do so.

chkreqs.dll installation error for P4 motherboards

Okay, the whole damn windows/temp chkreqs.dll answer didnt help me at all since I dont got an AMD motherboard, so I had to find my own solution... here goes...

-copy the whole install cd into a temporary folder on your harddrive

-now go into the temp folder (e.g. c:/heroescd1/) and delete autorun.txt and sysinfo

-then go into the _setup folder in the temp folder (e.g. c:/heroescd1/_setup) and delete chkreqs.dll, setup.txt, and SYSREQS.txt

-finally, go to the support folder in the temp folder (e.g. c:/heroescd1/temp)and delete sysinfo

now, simply go into the _setup folder in the temp folder (e.g. c:/heroescd1/_setup) and run setup.exe and taa daa! no more chkreqs.dll error! make sure when it asks you to put in the second cd 80% through installation that you point it to d:/_setup when you put the second cd in , or it wont progress further (if you use this installation procedure it'll try pointing to the _setup folder in the temp folder on your hard drive so make sure U do this!)

p.s. dont forget to delete the temp folder after you install the game
