Heroes 4. Quiz

An Axeoth Quiz, mostly about Morale, Luck, movement and what happens when you combine and split stacks.

You have an army. If placed as an army of their own the stacks have an individual movement allowance as follows: Hero (22), Dwarf (18), Halfling (18), Magi (19), Genie (25), and Sprite (29). When you start none of the stacks enjoys any external bonuses from visited structures.

Added: The Hero's starting Alignment is Order. That is the Hero background is blue. (needed to asnwer some of the Morale questions.)

Question 1. What's the Hero's Movement allowance when joined with the army?
A. 22
B. 27
C. 29

You split away the rest of the army from the Hero. Exit the army screen and then Join the armies with the Hero again. This reduces the movement allowance of your army units that were split away by 3 each.

Added: The Hero doesn't use movement due to the split/join. That is: you move the creatures to the Hero row, and the join is initiated by the creatures. Hero remains on the same Adventure map position throughout the exchange.

Question 2. What is the hero's remaining movement allowance after you have joined the armies again?
A. 22.
B. 24.
C. 29.

Question 3. What Morale have the Genies? (The Hero has nothing which give Morale boosts.)
A. -4
B. 0
C +1

You split away the Sprites. The army engages some Elves in battle. During the Battle the Hero Summons some Leprechauns.

Question 4. The Turn after the Leprechauns are Summoned, which morale does the Genies have? (Assume nothing in particular happens to the Genies in the battle to either increase or decrease the morale between the turns.)
A. -4
B. 0
C. +1

You win the battle and join the armies again. Then you visit a Stables. You split away some of the Sprites and they visit a Clover Field. The remainder of the army visits another Clover Field and a Fountain of Fortune. You then Join the Sprites again.

Question 5.  The combined stack of Sprites now has a luck of:
A. 0
B. 1
C. 2

You split away the Sprites so you have two stacks of Sprites in the army, and then end the turn.
Your Hero has Summoning and Summons 2 more Sprites which are added to the first stack of Sprites.

Question 6. Which movement allowance does the stack of Sprites have which contain summoned Sprites?
A. 29
B. 30
C. 34

You split away a couple of Sprites belonging to the stack which did not get any Summoned Sprites added into a new army. That group of Sprites then visits an Idol of Fortune, Fountain of Fortune, and a Blessing Stone.

Question 6. Which Morale and Luck does the army of Sprites have?
A. +2 Morale, +3 Luck
B. +3 Morale, +3 Luck
C. +3 Morale, +4 Luck

The other army (with the Hero) visits a Fountain of Fortune, a Clover Field and a Fairy Ring.

Question 7. Which Morale and Luck does the stack which contains Summoned Sprites have.
A. -4 Morale, +3 Luck
B. +1 Morale, +3 Luck
C. +2 Morale, +2 Luck

You now split up the sprites in the separate army and divide them into two Stacks. You then join the armies. Putting one of the Stacks onto the Stacks with did contain Summoned Sprites, and the other Stack onto the Stack which did not contain Summoned Sprites.

Question 8. The stack which doesn't contain Summoned sprites now have a Movement allowance of:
A. 29
B. 30
C. 34

Question 9. The stack which doesn't contain Summoned Sprites have a Morale of:
A. -4
B. -3
C. 1

Question 10. The stack which doesn't contain Summoned Sprites have a Luck of:
A. 1
B. 2
C. 3

Question 11. At this point which movement allowance does the hero have?
A. 22
B. 29
C. 34

Move the two stacks with Sprites to a separate army.

Question 12. At this point which movement allowance does the Hero have?
A. 22
B. 25
C. 30

Move back the two stacks of Sprites. Then end turn. The next turn, some more Sprites are added to one stack.

Question 13. What Luck does the Stack that got more Sprites added have?
A. 0
B. 1
C. 2

Join all the sprites into one stack in the army.

Question 14. Which movement allowance does the hero have?
A. 22
B. 25.

I'll give a try

Hm. I know quite nothing about the game, since I played it only once. But for fun, I'll try the 3 first questions:
1)
A. 22
2)
A. 22     (i don't see why it would be more)
3. +1     (hmmm, don't know why).
...
But I would be happy to have the answers soon!

29.  The hero's movement allowance equals that of the fastest creature in the army.  (But the whole army's movement allowance equals to that of the slowest creature, ironically.)

It depends on which party initiates the split (i.e. on the split army screen, who do you move to the bottom row).  If you move the hero to the bottom row, the hero loses the movement.  If you move the creatures to the bottom row, they lose the movement instead.  The same applies when you join parties again.  The party that makes the move loses the movement.

And of course, all movement allowances return to normal the next day no matter what I do the current day.

I'll send in the replies in a few days, with some detailed explanations.

Hmmm... just browsing the answers and there doesn't seem to be all that many correct answers yet... And 15 answers to 14 questions?

Some of these questions are very tough. 10 correct answers is probably a good result.

Jenova: Calling a witch "he" is likely to get you zapped. Be more careful in the feature. I mean how would you feel if I started to call you "he"?

For the quiz I just made a test-map with some random boosters and let the hero (and the sprites) walk around the map a bit.

As I alluded to in my earlier post, the questions on movement are unanswerable.  Whether a troop loses movement or not depends on whether it initiates the splitting of an army.  The questions don't specify whether it is the hero who leaves the troops, or the troops who leave the hero.

**** SPOILERS ****

Don't read any further if you want to take the quiz.

Axeoth Quiz:

You have an army. If placed as an army of their the stacks have an individual movement allowance as follows: Hero (22), Dwarf (18), Halfling (18), Magi (19), Genie (25), and Sprite (29). When you start none in the army enjoys any external bonuses from visited structures.

Question 1. What's the Hero's Movement allowance when joined with the army?
C. 29

=> The Hero gets the same Movement allowance as the fastest army.

You split away the rest of the army from the Hero. Exit the army screen and then Join the armies with the Hero again. This reduces the movement allowance of your army units that were split away by 3 each.

Question 2. What is the hero's remaining movement allowance after you have joined the armies again?
C. 29

=> The Hero has not used up any movement. Joining two armies who have moved different distances will not cause the remaining movement allowance to be recalculated. (Some recalculation will be done in the case where the Hero has Movement bonus which will be applied to the armies, like Pathfinding at the two highest levels, or an Artifact that increases movement.)

Question 3. What Morale have the Genies? (The Hero has nothing which give Morale boosts.)
A. -4

=> You're mixing Order Troops and Nature troops. They are opposite so you get a -5 to Morale for this. +1 -5 = -4.

C. +1

=> The Leprechauns (and any other summoned creatures) doesn't affect your Morale. The same would apply if the Magi raised some Skeletons during the battle. Since you split away the sprites before combat, you only have Order troops. Thus, the Genies' morale is +1.

B. 1

=> You have the +1 Luck bonus from Clover Field. It doesn't matter that the armies visited two different Clover Fields.

You split away the Sprites so you have two armies again, and then end the turn.
Your Hero has Summoning and Summons 2 more Sprites which are added to the first stack of Sprites.

Question 6. Which movement allowance does the stack of Sprites have which contain summoned Sprites?
A. 29

=> The Summoned Sprites have no bonuses. When you Summon them it count as if you join the armies. Thus all not shared bonuses are reset, and since the Summoned Sprites have no bonuses, this stack of Sprites loses the Stable bonus and the Clover Field bonus. Therefore, this stack of Sprites have a movement allowance of 29. The other six stacks in the army keep both their Stable bonus and the Clover Field bonus.

=> This is especially important if you summon troops, like Water Elementals which probably will be your slowest troop. Visiting a Stables in that case is simply not helpful (more than the current turn), because the next turn a new Elemental will be summoned and since that Elemental will not have the Stable bonus, then neither will the stack of Water Elementals. You can of course split away the Water Elementals with the army, but that will only work if you don't need them in battle.

=> In this case, it will not slow down the army since Sprites are very fast, and even without the Stable bonuses they travel much further than the dwarves and the halflings. However, if your hero had travelled alone with the Sprites, then it would have mattered.

=> The morale is be careful about joining stacks with bonuses with stacks that have none. You will lose every bonus that is not common between the two stacks. And also remember that Summoning creatures is the same thing as merging stacks, unless the summoned creature appears in a new stack.

B. +3 Morale, +3 Luck

=> +1 Morale from Idol of Fortune and Blessing Stone, +1 Luck from Clover Field (visited last turn), Fountain of Fortune, and Blessing Stone. Base Morale is +1 since the army consists of only the Sprites.)

=> NOTE: This may change in version 1.2 of the game. There is a change to the Idol of Fortune, and the idol giving +1 Morale is just not right. It should give +1 Luck.

The other army (with the Hero) visits a Fountain of Fortune, a Clover Field and a Fairy Ring.

Question 7. Which Morale and Luck does the stack which contains Summoned Sprites have.
A. -4 Morale, +3 Luck

=> +1 Luck from Fountain of Fortune, Clover Field and Fairy Ring. No adjustments to Morale. Base Morale for Sprites is -4 because you mix Order and Nature troops in this army.)

C. 34

=> All of the Sprites in this Stack visited the Stables last turn and they have not done anything to lose that bonus, so they still have it. Therefore their Movement allowance is 29+5 = 34.

Question 9. The stack which doesn't contain Summoned Sprites have a Morale of:
A. -4

=> Only bonuses that apply to both groups of sprites that were joined will apply. One of the groups (the one that visited Clover Field, Fountain of Fortune and Faerie Ring) has no Morale bonuses. So the Morale bonuses from the other group are lost for the combined stack of Sprites.

Question 10. The stack which doesn't contain Summoned Sprites have a Luck of:
B. 2

=> They will retain bonuses only if both groups have them. In this case there are two:
+1 Luck from Clover Field, +1 Luck from Fountain of Fortune.

Question 11. At this point which movement allowance does the hero have?
C. 34

=> There are Sprites who have this Movement and they are the fastest troop. Hero has the same Movement as fastest troop.

Move the two stacks with Sprites to a separate army.

Question 12. At this point which movement allowance does the Hero have?
C. 30

=> The fastest troop is now Genies with Stable bonus, giving 25+5 = 30 Movement.

Move back the two stacks of Sprites. Then end turn. The next turn, some more Sprites are added to one stack.

Question 13. What Luck does the Stack that got more Sprites added have?
A. 0

=> All bonuses are zeroed in this stack, so they once again have no Luck bonus.

Join all the sprites into one stack in the army.

Question 14. Which movement allowance does the hero have?
D. 30.

=> All Sprites lost their Stable bonus, when you joined the two Stacks of Sprites. Sprites without Stable bonus have Movement 29, whereas the Genies have 25+5= 30. Thus the ‘fastest' troop is now the Genies, so Hero gets Movement allowance of 30.

Thanx for the link to the quiz, Djive.
I will answer your questions immediately and I hereby swear not to look at the answers...

Question 1. What's the Hero's Movement allowance when joined with the army?
A. 22
B. 27
C. 29

29, The hero moves as fast as the fastest creature.

Question 2. What is the hero's remaining movement allowance after you have joined the armies again?
A. 22.
B. 24.
C. 29.

Still 29, The hero has not lost movement and will therefore travel with the same speed (even though the sprites HAVE lost movement).

Question 3. What Morale have the Genies? (The Hero has nothing which give Morale boosts.)
A. -4
B. 0
C +1

Sprites and genies are from opposite alignments, giving a -5 morale penalty. Standard moral is 1, so the genies have a moral of -4.

Question 4. The Turn after the Leprechauns are Summoned, which morale does the Genies have?
A. -4
B. 0
C. +1

Creatures that are summoned or raised and illusions do not change morale of the other troops (good for magi). Since the sprites are away, the genies have a moral of +1 and they will keep that.

Question 5. The combined stack of Sprites now has a luck of:
A. 0
B. 1
C. 2

The lowest luck value is chosen when the sprites join. The sprites that have visited only the clover field have the lowest luck value, which is 1 (not quite sure). So, sprites have a luck of 1.

Question 6. Which movement allowance does the stack of Sprites have which contain summoned Sprites?
A. 29
B. 30
C. 34

Lowest movement is chosen, so the stable bonus will not be applied. Therefore, a movement of 29.

Question 6. Which Morale and Luck does the army of Sprites have?
A. +2 Morale, +3 Luck
B. +3 Morale, +3 Luck
C. +3 Morale, +4 Luck

I don't know. The answer which I think it is, is not described. Hmmm...I go for C. But I wonder where they get that +3 morale.

Question 7. Which Morale and Luck does the stack which contains Summoned Sprites have.
A. -4 Morale, +3 Luck
B. +1 Morale, +3 Luck
C. +2 Morale, +2 Luck

I'm not sure about the luck...but the sprites have negative morale due to being mixed with order troops, so it must be answer A.

Question 8. The stack which doesn't contain Summoned sprites now have a Movement allowance of:
A. 29
B. 30
C. 34

OMG! This is becoming really complicated! If I remember well, the stack without summoned sprites still have the stables bonus, so movement is 34.

Question 9. The stack which doesn't contain Summoned Sprites have a Morale of:
A. -4
B. -3
C. 1

-4 I guess, since order troops are still there.

Question 10. The stack which doesn't contain Summoned Sprites have a Luck of:
A. 1
B. 2
C. 3

Speaking about hard questions...I thought +4, but that must be +3 then, I guess.

Question 11. At this point which movement allowance does the hero have?
A. 22
B. 29
C. 34

34, fastest troop's movement+stable bonus.

Question 12. At this point which movement allowance does the Hero have?
A. 22
B. 25
C. 30

30, fastest army member is genie now. Stable bonus of +5 makes 30.

Question 13. What Luck does the Stack that got more Sprites added have?
A. 0
B. 1
C. 2

0. Lowest luck value is chosen and the new sprites have not visited any locations.

Question 14. Which movement allowance does the hero have?
A. 22
B. 25.
C. 29.
D. 30.
E. 34.

30, some sprites hadn't visited the stables making the genies the fastest creatures.

Well, that's it. Thanx for the questions Djive. I won't start complaining that they weren't hard. Geez, my head swims...

Edit: the answers are clearly stated, Djive. Great, I've learnt something new again!
