Multiplayer Options

...hmm, I posted this somewhere else, but apparenlty I got no feedback (don't know why) so I figured I'de repost it in case in this way, maybe some discussion can be brought about...

...don't know if its been fixed/changed lately because I haven't been playing, but what I want is to be able to ask my allies for certain resources, and at least have some sort of a pecentage of chance that they will give me some, if its the AI, or at least saying some sort of message that they can't afford it or something...or actually, also have some sort of setting that are in some otehr games, where you can also be in a neutral stance with another player...so while you're not necessarily an enemy you aren't an ally either...and in that stance, the same trading allies...and in the hero trading screen, you can be able to have a thing where you place the stuff you want to give to the other hero in a box, and the same applies for the other person...and then if they both agree to it, then it can happen (for those of you that play Diablo II, I'm referring to the trading box, and while it might seem like stealing the idea, I've always wanted somthing like that in HoMM)...also, when you visit an allied town, I want an option where you can actually build stuff for your ally and they can still build something in their turn too...
...oh, nearly forgot, but also I'de like an option where you can actually choose your allies and enemies, and diplomatic skills may actually help determine that stance...or if a mapmaker doesn't want it to be changed, they can predetermine the stances so that they can't be changed...
...and, also I think it might be nice if you can actually sort of give away a certain hero in an army to your ally, if you want to in the trading screen...it may be that your ally is in need of some extra forces, and while they have the troops, they need a strong leader...and you just happen to be in short supply of creatures but have an extra hero you could lend to your ally, so they can have him...

...yet another thing, it would kinda be cool if you could hire some troops in your allies' towns, or be able to pick them up after they already hired them and are just sitting there...like there could be an option in the castle, or whatever is is now, pre-setting a certain amount of creatures than you want an ally to be able to hire from you, especially if you have way too many creatures versus the gold supply you have handy, and your ally has plenty of gold, but would rather buy troops himself, rather than giving you gold to buy them for yourself...and same goes for simply picknig up troops in a garrison, or town or something...have an extra slot in town, where you can place creatures for your ally to pick up for free..

...additionally, this doesn't really have anything to do with multiplayer, but I think it'de be nice to have 2 or 3 extra garrison slots to place your ranged attackers (or melee cambatants if you really wanted) while protecting a castle, so in that way it would be even more difficult to take over a town...the defenders have a much greater advantage, having extra troops slots, and already having some of their defenders in crucial areas...

...I hope most of what I just said hasn't already been mentioned before...if so, I'm sorry for wasting your time

It would be nice if AI allies were more helpful. I would like being able to send requests to the AI such as "Send _____", "What resource do you need?", "Help defend town _____", "Help guard area", etc. - and being able to receive such requests from the AI if it's in trouble.

...yeah, that'de sure be nice...the way it is nice, unles you're heavily outnumbered, or for some reason the computer AI is actually really powerful, you're you're just totally outnumbered, all they do is get in your way...they always ask you for stuff, and come into your territory and pick up everything, and after you kill all the enemies in the region, they simply go and grab all the mines that you can't get to first...and they hoard up all this gold, rarely ever spending it all and they don't really help you out, until they see that their own safety is at stake...it'de be nice to have a built in priority and chance system where you can easily communicate even with the AI and get some more teamwork going on...

Some very good ideas here, RMS. I'd like to add one, if I may?

How many times have you met up with a computer ally and discovered they had some really great artifacts stashed in their backpack? It would be nice if you could have a chance of taking anything they don't actually have equipped.( "Hey buddy, it's nice to see you're wearing that Helm of the Unicorn. It looks good on you, really it does. So you wouldn't mind me taking this old winged helm you've got stuffed in your backpack, would you? I'll even throw in a free Stoic Watchman." ) Presumably there'd be a percentage chance, perhaps based on the relative worth of the artifact, that the computer ally would agree.

I know, too late for heroes 4, but that's what wishes are all about.

heh, yeah sure that'de be really nice...whatever system it'de be based on, it'de be a big help...you see your ally with all the artifacts that are supposed to be yours, but they just got lucky, and while you did most of the work, they somehow have all the good stuff...it'de sure be nice to get what you really deserve

I will stick to this thread, because I am not allowed to make my own yet.

What I miss in h5 is sound notification when it comes to your turn. After completing my turn I want to read some book, do excercises or make sandwich, which causes me to leave the room. I have then no idea, when should I get back. This sucks because so far I need to stare stupidly on monitor.

H3 had this certainly, I am not sure with h4 but it is very shame that h5 lacks such solution.
