Sounds of HoMM4..

...as the time draws near we get more and more info about HoMM4 ...there are still some parts of the game that we have no idea about...

...we have learned about the new creatures, the new towns, the new spell system, we even learned about the music in HoMM4... what we do not know is how the game will sound... I mean... will the vampires go "Blah!" again? ...will the dying cry of an Orc sound as it should? ...will the sound of creatures fried by a fireball be good enough?

...I don't know about you but I would like to know what the game will sound like, we already know how it looks like...

I like your foresight - if you download the Gamespot videos, those have some battle sequences... oh, wait, but with Heroes III music. Sorry, I thought I found an answer.

This is a little of topic, but you know how in little Nintendo games and such, if a creature is it, it sometimes falls down, shakes it's head, and gets back up? I think that's what some things do in Heroes IV. It wouldn't be surprising; the animations are supposed to be much richer.

Moderator's hat off for this one

Here's hoping:

Sprites still make that happy little giggle when they attack.

Crusaders lose that gawdawful clanking and clattering when they move. (Trust me ... full plate armor is not quite that noisy)

Behemoths bellow fit to shake the walls.

Wolves howl and snarl.

Champions, Unicorns, Centaurs, Nightmares, and Nomads make a sound that's more like a cavalry charge, and less like a pony ride

Ghosts wail and shriek. Harpies too.

Dragon Golems don't sound like they're bouncing on their springs.

Chaos spells get back some of the fury of the Heroes 2 Armageddon. (If Implosion is in the game, something more than a feeble gurgle would be nice.)

and yes, Vampires get their 'Blah!' back. If they're going to look like B movie Draculas, make 'em sound like it

maybe I've misunderstood your post but... are you saying GameSpot has VIDEOS of battle sequences in HOMM4??? Is that true?? And how have I missed that info? Can you post the URL to see or download that videos, pleeeeeeeaaaase?

I've always thought that 3DO pays much attention to sound in their games (and that's a good thing), and specially in the HOMM saga. Have you considered the quantity of different and short sound effects needed for all spells, all creatures walking, all creatures dying, all creatures attacking...

And I'm sorry, but I like the "heavy metal" sound of crusaders and champions walking the battlefield. As much as the mighty sound of their sword blow... what a pity I'm a necromancer :-)

As for the sound thing I agree with the dwarf.. Also skeletons should keep their cool H3 sound.

I hope...

I attach a very big importance to the sound of HOMM.
I hope the sound of HOMM4 will be good.
My main hopes are:
The wolves: come back to the H2 sound when they move, do not keep this of h3.
Black dragons: make a raw noise when they are hit.
Elves and archers: their sounds of h3 were very good
...   I won't list all creatures.
But there is another thing I hope:
The sound of tresuries, garden of revelation, star axis...
were too strong in H3. When I put the music less loud and
I put the whole sound ouder, the tresuries were horribly too
noisy.

My hopes are not directed particularly to each sound of each creature, because they always have managed to do that good or at least acceptable. Also the tracks for the combat screens also rule in last editions. Here's what I want more:
till now, from time to time we know that a creature participating to a battle change it's posture and makes a "warrior sign"( for example the ogre rise their clubs). How about a war cry to go with that? There should be more noise on the battlefield, and creaures should cry perhaps to each other; when charging, or perhaps cries of encouragement when the allied parties attack.

there's an idea...

for example... titans should taunt blackies, elves should taunt orcs... each creature should taunt the enemy (and things could get worse in cases of mortal hatred) ...cheers for allies could work too.. although I would find it strange if I saw a champion cheer for the victory of an angel, while he is cornered by enemy troops... so, they should be very carefull about that...

I Thought about what Vlad said. And why not voice for heroes? For example, when you see the number of a group of creatures on the land before attacking, the hero could make a comment, function of the impression the monsters make to him, if he fear them or not...

Voices for heroes would be fine; maybe some favorite qoutes for each one, like a "speciality"; for example, one of the coolest heroes ever, Crag Hack could start the battle with the words: "Thinking is so painfull, lets just kick some butt!"

I like it - NWC is supposed to bring back some of the colorfullness(comedy?) of Heroes I and II, so why not add some with Heroes quotes?

Maybe it's just me, but I have heard some of the spell sound effects used in shows on TV... I could be mistaken, but I was certain it was the same sound.

In the TV show "Mystic Knights of Tyr-Na-Nog" they used the sound effect of the magic arrow from H2 (the little pheeeeooowuuung!)for a sound affect.

In X-men evolution I think, they used the sound effect of the "Dimension Door" spell in H3 (Whaaaaooo-ooooosh)

It depends on the quality and the rustyness of the armor

I don't think it was so bad. I also would like that the way that Champions die in HOMM 3 will stay, I like that sound.

Yes! The heroes should speak, maybe a hero will shout "CHAAARGE!!!" to his troops when they'll go to attack someone. They also mught say, from time to time, "Maybe magic will help?!", or "let's see", when looking at the spell book.

Mutare should say something like from the Dragon Blood campaign, "I will be the one to drink your blood!" or, depending on the name of the hero, say the hero is Crag Hack, she says, "Crag Hack. I find the name distasteful!"

just a thought..

yeah, vlad had a really cool idea imho. just borrowed myself civ3 and i have killed so many that it makes me sick and it makes me think why every good game that i know of is about killing.

but if there was opera background.. and allied creatures clapped their hands every time an opponent is killed, it would look less grim but more theatrical instead. and it would look great with creatures moving one by one, just like everyone is watching the performance of the creature that makes his move.

well, i wonder if anybody else feels sth like that?

If an champion kills an enemy then I think it would be cool to hear women scream and cry for him...

The sound of the creatures in HOMM3 was very bad... Hope it will be much cooler in homm4

I also heard some h2 music on TV, like the music of the new weak or the
melody of the knight castle.
I think Wesley is a little nasty when he says that the sound of h3 was very bad. Of course it could have been
better, but I don't find it VERY BAD.
Maybe I didn't understand what Xenophanes said, but if you
want that each hero make a specific sound for each other hero in front of him, just think
to the number of sounds that would require.
A very good idea would be that the music of a starting combat would be a little longer,
sothat each hero could say his sentance.
The problem is that there can be a lot of heroes in one battle.
