Round I has ended. As planed, 12 players advance to the last stage.
Qlczas unfortunately resigned from the tournament so his place is taken by one more participant from Group C. So we got 6 players from each group with the most amount of points:

Group A - Bania_87, TowerLord, albolabris, metatron1983, MyszaSnk, Unknown
Group C - zaio-biao, ikero, PitLord, MAitrey, Cepek, darmir

We play the same way as in stage one - each vs each, 3 games, 1 restart for both sides.
You have a whole month to play your games. Deadline is 15 June 2012 for now. If the podium will clarify until that time the tournament ends. If not we will postpone the deadline but it won't be longer than the end of June.

Scheme will be updated in the master post.

You can start playing, happy hunting and good luck

Would be nice in 2nd phase if we were to use GameRanger as main contact... we can share our GR numbers, and 'Add as Friends' all the guys from the final group, so we can see when they are online.

After that all's just simple contacting when we see opponent online, perhaps added by some HC messages if finding each other on GR is too hard.

First report in 2nd phase:

Towerlord - Bania:

Stronghold wins Fortress
Academy wins Sylvan
Inferno wins Dungeon

Final result: 3-0

All games were interesting, but the first was the best, though I made a risky choice which almost came back to bite me from the behind.

Towerlord - Metatron:

Stronghold wins Fortress
Sylvan wins Haven
Fortress wins Sylvan

Final result: 3-0

Thanks for the games!

I prefer to select the most interesting replays for sharing for now... perhaps when I have the time I'll come back with short descriptions and more replays.

So... Bania
Stronghold vs. Fortress was the most interesting, because it had a lot of twists... In the beginning I was confindent about victory, in the middle of the game, it was starting to look like a loss after a lot of misses, and in the end I regained my confidence after I killed his thanes with lightning and level 1.

Academy vs. Sylvan ... this also was a good game, though I was able to control hostilities from the start till the end, battleground and atb(and Jhora's special) helped a little here also. I had arcane intuition so I knew my opponent has book of Light, and all three masters, and thus I was able to create the right plan to counter that setup(I had book of dark). I decided to use Puppet Master and Blind as much as I can and force him out of the mass spells land, where he had the advantage(6 vs 2), taking advantage of my superior casting speed and mana supply. After his Endurance and Deflect Missiles I was dealing pretty low damage, especially with my main force(the ranged stacks), but fortunatelly for me he only had 4 stacks left on the battlefield at that moment, druids being Puppeted for quite a while and dragons/unicorns constantly blinded. So ... his troops died slowly, but certainly.

Inferno vs. Dungeon - low attack inferno vs. low spell power and mana dungeon... that's the best description for this game. Again I was very confident about this game because of lowish spell power(only annoying thing was warlock /w defense +stand), and even though in the end I won  only with a few troops left, considering I had last stand, those troops would've lasted me at least for two more hero actions.

And Metratron
Stronghold - Dwarf -> I had the perfect counter against his fireball-dwarf setup with protection from fire, so not much to tell ... pretty one-sided.

Sylvan - Haven ->This was the most balanced, if you can say that about a game I finished with more than half of my starting troops. I had >20 defense and good spells so I was very confident about winning, and for some reason he made things easier for me by opening the path to his archers. Only problem was his Mass Cleansing, but given Haven's traditionally low mana, he couldn't cast it too many times.

Dwarf - Sylvan -> This was a nice, but failed imbued triple ballista setup... so again not much to say about it.

Replays

Btw, I won't be available for games, until the weekend at least...

Towerlord - Maitrey

Inferno wins Fortress -> was the most interesting game, opponent went for a pure might build, and had an impressive attack! I had a more rounded build, with Dark Magic and mass endurance & haste, and I thought I would dominate the game thanks to that, but my opponents huge attack got many of my troops killed really fast, and I had to rely on vampirism to be able to come back into the game.

Dungeon wins Sylvan -> destructive build for him, not really the best idea vs. dungeon as druids can be killed really easy.

Fortress wins Academy -> another unfinished build for him, lack of consume artifact being a major problem.

Final result: 3-0

Can someone explain me why Mountain guards were defending almost all the game, even next to the Archdevils with vampirism who had already retaliate? IMO that's the mistake of the match who led Dwarfs to the defeat when victory was theirs.
(Same with Thanes attacking Pit Spawns instead of Archdevils.)

I also wondered at the time about that... I think the guards were dealing too low damage to be worthed un-defending them. They had weakness and suffering, so 12 attack/1 damage, probably would've hit at most 50 damage/strike, not really a game winner. He might have also thought about me staying there and on next turn, using rune of exorcism, which would've hurt me plenty with the berserking already on.

In this case they don't need to Defend, they can just wait or start with Exorcism instead of Berserker. Anyway they should attack because it was for free: Archdevils had already retaliated. And even 50 damage can change the battle (later when spells were dispelled they dealt 300 damage with luck thus 150 without), especially against Tier 7 with vampirism. You add this plus Thanes' attack on Archdevils instead of Pit Spawns and Dragons + Rune Keepers staying together with other stacks instead of move forward and I'm 100% sure that Dwarfs would have won the game.

Anyway, even before, next to Demon overseers blocking Skirmishers they didn't attack as well.

The truth is, it was a mistake from my part going there with devils in the first place, with no real benefit from that, attacking the rune priests from a position far from his guards being a much better option because I would have forced them out of there or to their already defensive stance. Also at some point I attacked the bears with the devils, allowing double attack on them from the lava dragons right through the gated vermins, which was a pretty silly mistake as well.

All in all, in the heat of battle mistakes happen, and that one with the guards was only a minor one, considering the little extra damage, because using defend gave those little guys a nice boost for their defense, making them unaproachable for a very long time.

Some answers to your questions, might also be in the mod for the map... there are some important changes to the various creatures and skills, check them out in Polish Arena Map topic.

Hi guys. Sorry for the silence but I went abroad from work and it took me longer than planned. Today i need a decent sleep so I'll be available tomorrow. My friend has a wedding on the weekend so i presume i will start playing hard from Monday when i get sober

For now i updated the scheme. Here are the most interesting replays from the Final, enjoy watching.

Download Replays

About your question Zenithale. MAitrey is a solid player but he makes mistakes almost all the time which cost him often a game. Surely that Dwarf vs Demons battle should have been his but details matter... Bania and Metatron also should have won at least one out of three with Tower but they didn't play flawless and Tower made less or not important mistakes so he won and he is now a favourite. It will be hard to catch him.

In this final i would say there are 5 very experienced players who make little mistakes and know exactly what type of build they need and what kind is appropriate at the moment. Tower, unfortunately for others, already killed two of them The rest can loose even having a better hero, ATB or advantage in the middle of the battle. You can see that clearly on the replays...

Keep up playing. So far not so bad but having in mind that UEFA Euro starts on the 8th of June please speed up a little.

Towerlord - Darmir quick report: 2-1

1. Haven wins Dungeon
2. Academy losses Stronghold
3. Dungeon wins Stronghold

1. The might build of Haven couldn't be stopped by the warlock, especially since the warlock got more attack then spell power.
2. Fought against Kujin, and didn't expect to face Zoltan's special. It isn't written in the map description, and it influenced the game outcome alot, aided by alot of resists. Pretty fast I found myself implosion-less, and slowly all my spell got blocked. A couple of small mistakes I made also helped seal the game.
3. Dungeon with dark and summoning won the game easily, aided by a not so great stronghold build, perhaps featuring shatter destructive?.

Towerlord - Cepek quick report: 1-2

1. Academy losses Fortress
2. Stronghold wins Haven
3. Fortress losses Necro

1. Destructive Academy that didn't catch defense, was pretty helpless against the dwarfs with 50% protection from Earth, since my main spell against the Fire immunes were Implosion and Meteor Shower. Also 18 attack on the evil gnomes didn't help
2. A double shatter orc killed the knight with higher stats.. in spite of the initial deadly strike and an almost crucial resist against fear my roar.
3. Bad destructive spell in guild, and 0 elemental boosters made me choose the (also)not so great light path for dwarfs. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best of spells here either, but hoped for Cleansing and/or Haste in the spell stone. No light spell came out of that, and so Mass Righteous Might and Mass Endurance weren't enough to kill the Necromancer with Phoenix, Mass Confusion and great stats via good artifacts(including inferno set). Lack of rune of dispel, also contributed a lot to my loss, since my hero was specialised in Rune Priest, and Mass Confusion neutralised my main stack pretty well. My build also suffered a little since luck didn't come (appeared only once with Light Magic)... I don't have a replay of this one, since I still had 3 untouched stacks, and dying would've taken a while, and I didn't feel like slowly waiting for it.

To tell you the truth I haven't encountered something like that either, but this time it happened. I saw resist being written on the archangels, not sure how it happened... magic resist or creature resist to fear, perhaps chances for Fear my Roar are changed on this map, or maybe I was just very unlucky.

PS: Very hard finding opponents lately ... since tournament is probably getting into extra-time, and organizer is still at 0 games, it probably would be a good idea to extend it two weeks after Euro ends
