I can send 20$. Thats the best I can do. sry
However, I will not be playing for ToH-homm3 even if you guys succeed.
As I have said in the thread in the library, I am not disappointed since ToH is closed. I am disappointed the way we are/were treated.
Spending his money on ToH does not give Ves the right to treat us like garbage.

unless u r treated like garbage!
its possible to make the toh clone for heroes3 forever its that some1 else would be administrating it though. mandi raven and any other hardcore volunteer that will stick to heroes3 for years to come would do all that vesuvius did for heroes3 toh.
but seriously depends on how much people are willing to put in to it all remember that $900 is the fee charged for doing the cloning and readministrating a new section, not the bandwidth and other server costs. So the $900 is the gesture of goodwill to get it going.
i see some ppl willing to donate, but i just hate to see a few shoulder the burden for many others kind of like rob but not get any thank u. Just for some of u who like to know who has donated financialy in the past go here http://www.toheroes.com/vol/supporters.html its only 4 ppl.

Well hi all.
I might be a simple, out of the way New Zealander. But I would like to see MaH, become a clone to what was ToH. If that means putting some monies towards a auto ranking system, so be it. Even though the NZ$ to US$ dallor sux, I will give what I can. Plus I will even put some of my free time aswell.
I like playing for fun with friends, but playing competive is a rush, esp. when you beat someone and you also get to test yourself against better players and learn from your mistakes, which you don't when playing mates, esp when they aren't of the same level as some who play here. So for this reason I would like to see a ToH clone.

Maybe not like Seasons past I dun know, I wasn't here then..
So let us make our own great season,,whats wrong with that??
Almost there

why does automation cost money ?
As I understand automation is a program that works directly with the Toh database and once it is made i don't understand why it would cost aditional money ...

What is with the amount of money being talked about here? Please, shop around before paying out the butt for hosting. For something simple, you can easily get a domain name and hosting for less than $50 U.S. per year at, for instance, freedom2surf (www.freedom2surf.net) and get:
UNLIMITED bandwidth
20 MB webspace
5 MB of database space
Mysql and Perl support
Only catch (and the way they keep bandwidth costs down) is you can't have files like mpegs or zips uploaded. But so what? HoMM maps aren't an unsupported file type (why oh why does every site host maps in zip format when they aren't compressing jack squat and 95% of the zips don't contain anything other than the map?), so no problem with hosting maps. You can have as many databases as you want (as long as you stay under 5 MB) so no problem with different databases if you want to keep various types of data apart, and a trained monkey can script a php setup under mysql with a login, search functions, and data entry by registered users. More webspace, more database space, e-mail, etc is all available at extra cost. But even getting a large amount of space, e-mail, and huge database space, you are still only talking about a couple hundred dollars a year.
And no one can say it would cost a lot to transfer the data from ToH if it still exists either, just get a dump of the database and e-mail it to someone else.
If I really cared that much about ToH for heroes 3 as much as many of you seem to, I would find a dedicated (and trustworthy) player with some scripting/php/html knowledge, get them to set up a paypal account, donate money to the account for them, they purchase the domain and webspace with their money, and transfer the amount from their paypal account to their bank account or whatever, and then they program it up. Its not that complicated, and it sure as hell isn't as expensive to maintain a website as much as most believe. There *are* affordable options out there. And with the fanbase ToH has/had, I find it hard to believe if you asked for just $5 a person that wants to enter (don't even have to demand it, just ask for a donation) you couldn't come up with a couple hundred bucks to run the site for a year.
Hell, there has got to be enough players here in college that they could run a site off their student webspace, as 90% of colleges don't have bandwidth limitations, and relatively few have file type limitations. Seems like finding the dedicated (and trustworthy) people to agree to spend the time and effort to put it together is the real issue.

Thx, Abazagaroth.
I just have to add, that on my work i write 3x times more prog code than needed to automotion for 1/3 cost of this $$$$.
Its not only a money question, its main question:
TOH ot not TOH.
Different worlds, different moneys, sorry ...

FYI
toh take about 30gigabytes of bandwidth on its busy periods in the season. Anyone who knows what this means understands!
it also takes about 200+ megabytes of space right now
its automation is not as simple as it seems, especially when you havent seen all its underlying administration setup and variables.

Question for Mel
Can u maybe explain more about the automation?
So we can understand what we can expect for difficulties.
I know u use a shared Windows machine for the website, with asp pages that make connection to 1 or more databases, but I dont know what database (access, SQL, Oracle) and if there are many databases, like 1 for the players, 1 for each tourney etc. or is it 1 big database (that would be a very big and difficult one then)
I also see u use Frontpage extentions, and that FP needs some administrating, so thats also some work, but dont know if thats needed for TOH H3.
Maybe u can explain the current situation by drawing it.
BTW as u see many guys want to help u guys, many wanna give money and also some who want to volunteer, this must make u guys see that we all are willing to spend our money and time to make TOH H3 a new start, and that its success is far from ending.

I know, Mel.
Clear automation
( only rankings prog + base) will cost
5 times lesser.
Settings, debugging, supporting,
presentation, design and ever documentiation and so on -
these things cost 80% of that work.
But thats still not a reason.
For me - i m little separate from most of all posts,
I wanna play TOH HEROES3 becuase of TOH YEARS HISTORY,
not because automation or currently rankings.

People are wondering what the $900 is for. Although Mel would probably be better equipped to answer this own, I will give a definition based on what I understand. What Ves and Mandi and I discussed from the beginning was taking the complete automation that ToH has (which is now once again set for Homm4) and clone it or make an exact copy for use with MaH ie. Homm3. The whole reason he brought Mandi and I and Myths and Heroes on board in the first place was to take over Homm3. He knew that he did not have the flavor for it anymore, but wanted to keep it (HOmm3)alive. And yes I know right now our point system is different then ToH but if we get this automation it will, in effect, be identical to the Homm3 ToH you all know and love. Mandi and I may set up some tournaments that are new / different of our own choosing, but we also have permission from Ves to set up any and all old ToH tournaments. Even things he plans to run for Homm4. He has no problem with us running a Homm3 version of anything. The above stated money are as I understand it a one time fee for the automation guy to go through and clone the full automation and set up controls for us to use. It is not the monthly fees for server, etc. Those fees, although still expensive, are paid by Ves. And he has, to this point, been gracious enough to extent their benefit to Mandi and I (and therefore you) without it costing us (very sweet and thank you again). I know this doesn't answer some of your questions Vex and I would anser them if I knew the answers. One thing I can answer is that both Mandi and I also use frontpage so it would be needed for HOmm3 ToH.

Hi Saph,
I saw u use Fronrpage extentions, but that is free on the account I think, and its very easy to use, so that cant be the problem. If someone just can give a sample database of the current situation, maybe I with help of some, can rebuild it for a clone, but then we need more info. What kind of database, how many etc.
