Thank you, I completely agree. This thread in particular became rather toxic, which is ironic because it's about "neutral" creatures lol.
Back onto topic, one of the aspects of a wide variety of neutral creatures is that it really adds a fun and strategic advantage to a Homm map. Who doesn't remember stumbling upon a place to recruit neutral creatures and being excited to add something new and powerful (ghosts, dragons, etc) to your fledgling army? I love it.

What I would love is to have aligned neutral creatures.
Like in H4.
For example Griffins would be Haven aligned.
Or Manticores would be Dungeon aligned.
And so on.
Of course true neutral creature would also be interesting.

He is the one chasing me around the forum to insult me, just sayin.
I can't get behind the idea of changing names for the sake of it, specially when it comes to pre existing creatures. Not only it breaks the lore but its also silly and maybe even offensive. I gladly take the term sheep but allow me to tell him he is one just as me, just in a different herd.
Anyway
I agree about the faction aligned neutrals. It would be nice to see the creatures that didnt get chosen as neutrals for their respective factions. Maybe they could even get modded in (for example, I could easily see deers/unicorns and bladedancers/emerald knights using the same dwelling)

and only an another sheep of different kind, makes use of generalizing people although i didnt like genya's comments even a bit(and generally i hate to even see such obey), i have to point this out that you are constantly snowing to people without any kindness, please realize that. this is a forum, and people need to write whatever they believe.
personally, i like the worlds that create their own original creatures BUT if only they are really well made. currently playing pillars of eternity and reading a ravenloft book, and i have to say they are both original and have well made settings that make me feel pleased.
i welcome any totally new-but good made creatures in h7. my personal wish: a plant-animal hybrid interesting creature with a good background tale of its own.
erwan le breton said in latest interview that they are working with people as long as relationship lives.. i think he should realise that creating a game is not and never will become a regular business depending on dialogues between old faces. their some artists lack the discipline and creativity, and they neeed to be cut out from dev team... in the sake of heroes.
my advise, or idea you may say, ubi should open a competition of creature design. i am sure that we will see revolutionary good works of all sorts that will make current artists ashame.

I am a firm believer that having more units to choose from within the factions, increase the variety of the units we see on the map. BUT! since there is no way we can get a 4/4/3 or a 5/4/3 or a 5/5/3 lineup anytime soon, i'll say this about neutrals.
Reading through the comments i believe that the game should have 3 neutral categories:
1. Faction connected: That means units that were part of the faction's lineup but did not make it to the current lineup, like manticores, unicorns, shadow lurkers etc. These neutrals could have their dwellings within the area of control of the faction, allowing for an extra customization of the army. Also, you can encounter more of them within the area of control of the faction you play since it is their native land.
2. Terrain connected: This means that this neutrals are tied to specific terrains as is their location. Faction connected units could also be terrain connected. That means you won;t get to fight unicorns in islands or out at sea, nor in deserts. But you could fight bandits adjacent to roads, unicorns in rain-forests, manticores in barren lands and pirates and mermaids in sea or sand/shore. Elementals are also terrain connected.
3. Unique or multi purpose neutrals. As the name says, these neutrals are unique in design and it is hard by nature to pin them down to one faction or one terrain type, much like the sea elf (it is connected to sanctuary, to sylvan and to stronghold, also to sea, shore, and land terrain).
For the vanilla game, i believe that a number of 10-12 neutrals including elementals would be good enough.
EDITED: That means 6 elementals, and possibly 6 aligned to faction units with some of them being terrain aligned as well.

So here we go.
I don't have much to comment on these, but I mainly wanted to bump the post from Rakshasa92 he made a while back, for those who may have missed these awesome creatures.

I like the Elementals. The Gold Dragon is much as expected. The Shantiri Titan is a nice surprise, the Golem doesn't look good, however. The Elf Pirate is downright bad imo, what's the point in calling it a pirate if it doesn't look like a pirate?

1) Piracy is not based on one's appearance.
2) Crag Hack is a pirate, at least in Ashan. He sure doesn't look the part.
3) Stereotypical pirates with the hat and parrot shtick are so blasé.
4) The puffy shirt, boots, and bandana don't look pirate-esque to you at all?

Well just expressing my personal opinion here, but that is basically everything that's wrong with the new Heroes games. The charm of the old games was that they actually went with all those old cliches. The black dragon looked like a dragon (and was black), the phoenix was on fire, the vampire actually drank blood (and did not wield giant swords), etc. Heroes 2 was, literally, a collection of fairytale creatures of all sorts into one game, and that was what gave it its charm. The new games may be more innovative (not even sure about that), but they sure did lose all the charm.

The sea elf pirate is suppose to be this DoC card
I thought I remembered it being called sea elf pirate, and not archer, so I'm not sure why they changed it around. Most of the neutrals look melee besides fire elemental and lilim so she could have stayed an archer to add some variety.
Fencing is a hobby of mine so I am interested if they will give her something special for her "lightning fast fencing techniques"

I'm happy to see that they're putting in a decent handful of neutrals into the game, especially some that are useful past the first few weeks.
I especially like the Shantiri Guardians, and am curious to find out (while playing) exactly how powerful they are!

Yeah and what an awesome neutrals those are!!!
Copy Paste some Golem (like there aren't enough constructs already, i'm sure they are working towards Robots of Might and Steel sooner or later) and Titan, add in some "sexy" sea elf pirate female to please the young nerds that never seen a lady and copy-paste the same boring pokemon elementals again and you have the freaking neutrals... ow and the Griffons that SHOULD have been in freaking haven instead of human/humanoid # endless.
EDIT own and how can I forget the Demons!! (Also in copy-paste)
This is so pathetic it hurts, they COULD have been in an expansion, but no they wasted that chance now. Smarter would it be to add in ALL the creatures from current towns (Stronghold, Rampart, Haven, Tower) that didn't made it in the votes, like the Unicorn, Shadow Unicorn, Manticore and all those others that didn't made the votes, but no, they used demons instead, something they could have used later on, now it will be a mess if they are added.
But of course it would be better for humanity that a expansion for this horrible abomination game is never created, and that homm dies after this and is reborn in the hands of a company that actually knows how to create monster designs.
Salute.
