Here are some creature ideas (I heard a lot of fans asking for these on other sites so i compiled them into one package):
The Town would be called Desert Metropolis and would be based on a new resource called Phosphates
Level 1- Vile Assassin, poison strike
Level 1- Orcish Musketeer, one-shot kill chance (like the Gorgon in HOMM3)
Level 2- Pikeman of Death, lets hero learn a random Death spell
Level 2- Crosbowman of Chaos, lets hero learn a random chaos spell
Level 3- Dark Terrorist, ranged gun attack, double damage to good-aligned units
Level 3- Mobile Lighthouse, no actual stats but when carried in the army on sea, reveals the entire sea
Level 4- Slothful Crusader, cannot attack but is always attacked by nearest enemy
Level 4- Demon Warthog, shoots spikes at up to three enemies
Level 5- Demonic Pegasus, (they should bring back the pegasus)can cast mass curse once
Level 5- Demon Zombie, undead, shoots with fireball like the Magog
Level 5- Baby Vampire, cannot fly but ages enemies
Level 6- Antelope of Doom, can teleport anywhere and attack all enemies in front like the cerberus
Level 6- Terrorist King, casts armaggeddon at the beginning of combat, immune to fire-based spells
The city could look Middle-Eastern or something like that, with domes and spires. The heroes should be Resistance Fighter as warrior and Ayatollah as spell-caster.
I havent figured out their spells yet, but i will soon.
What do you say?

Well, at least each unit has a unique ability. Like, come on, the teleporting antelope is really cool. Or the demonic pegasus. They should make more units like that.
And yeah I would like ur honest, not diplomatic opinion...
PS. The Ayatollah was thought by his people to have magic powers...He could make a spellcaster hero just fine.

I think that there should be a "Armor model" similar to the Warlords Batlecry game ( all units should have a percentage of resistance to piercing, slashing, crushing, magic,....)
There will be 6 towns? If so, I can already tell that I wont buy it.
I like the necropolis town so I have a "proposal" (i don't know english well) for it. It really shouldn't be connected with the infernals, and I made it on a "unit + 2 posible upgrades" idea. So, here it is:
1:Skeleton (60%piercing res)
-Skel.Captain (60%piercing, faster than mummy)
-Mummy (Curse, more hit points thn captain)
2:Ghost (40% P,S,C, en morale -1)
-Wraith (40% P,S,C, poison on HTH)
-Shadow (40% P,S,C, regeneration)
3:Acolyte (lesser animate dead)
-Necromancer (1% bonus on all undead ATT&DEF per unit, animate dead)
-Dark Priest (darkness, mana leech,shoot)
4:Vampyre (drain life)
-Vampyre Lord (drain life)
-Bat-master (bat swarm, bat form(80%res,cannot attack))
5:Liche (ranged attack)
-Power Liche (ranged, death cloud, poison)
-Ancient Liche (death ripple attack)
6ark Rider (chance for double damage, weakness)
-Death Knight (triple damage chance, weakness,-5 enem. morale)
-Dark Lord (breath attack, death stare, imune to magic)

Your idea about the 2 different upgrades available to a base creature is quite interesting. Imagine the possibilities!

I made that list in 15 minutes so I forgot about dragons and zombies but my main idea was about the armor.
Say you are leading humans against Rampart-like city with dendroids which have, let's say 80%res to Piercing, 10%to slashing, 20%to crushing, 0%to fire, 30% to magic (I just made that up), and you have a option to upgrade your archers into crosbowman or fire archers; It is far better to use fire archers in that game because of opponents relative resistance to piercing attacks.
That way you would have to play different strategies against different opponents like using crushing damage units like squire against the undead rather than upgrading your peasants to pikemen who have piercing damage.

yah, ive bin readin this forum for a while, 2 upgrades available for a creature is a great idea, it doesnt matter who came up with it, and to yasmiel that list looks pretty good for 15 mins, but i dont really see a skeleton upgrading to a mummy, i think they should remain neutral

As for upgrading, nwc/3do should stick to homm2 format where only some creatures get upgrades, as homm3 has too much and homm4 has none at all.

New Creatures
I reckon there should be a choice of upgrades for creatures:
eg. An Elf can be upgraded into a Grand Elf or something if recruited by a good hero, and a Dark Elf if done so by a bad hero, they'd have different abilities as well...eg.
Elf - A: 7 D: 7 Shots: 12 HP: 15 S: 7 Shoots Twice
upgraded to:
Grand Elf - A: 9 D: 8 Shots: 24 HP: 20 s: 7 Shoots Twice
Dark Elf - A: 10 D: 7 Shots: N/A HP: 25 s: 9 First Strike, Stealth
Something like that.
Then you could get all sorts of different upgrades. Some would give you the choice of good or evil, while others might just alternatives in the building structure...
Wight - Wraith or Ghost.
Or Angel - Archangel or Fallen Angel
Oh, and it would be cool say, that if you occupied an enemy town for long enough it would slowly transform into your original town type. eg. The Castle from HOMM3 is taken by a Death Knight. Slowly the town changes - skeletons appear on the street, building decay till there is nothing there... and then the old buildings get replaced with yours... like the Guardhouse gets knocked down and the follwing day a Cursed Temple springs up... So, your Castle would eventually become a Necropolis. Or maybe a Dungeon town would start growing trees in it - Rampart. You get the drift.
Um.. that's all for now.

Another town, this time humans, sorry if I stick too much to the dcmage type.
1easant
-Maceman (crushing dmg)
-Pikeman (piercing dmg, long weapon, short weapon penalty)
2:Archer
-Marksman (piercing dmg,2 shots)
-Ranger (fire dmg,no penalties at night)
3:Mercenary (slashing dmg,costs 1 gold per day)
-no upgrades
4riest (Heal, Bless, Magic Arrow, shoot)
-Monk (Mass Heal, Ice Bolt,Mass Bless)
5:Knight (Slashing dmg,5%res to P,S,C)
-Champion (piercing dmg,jousting,enables stables, 10%res to P,S,C)
-Paladin (slashing dmg, +1% ATT&DEF for each Angel,Archangel or Seraphin in army)
6:Angel
-Seraphin (magic dmg, Prayer,Divine intervention, Mass Bless, Mass Cure,Mass Haste)
-Archangel (slashing+fire damage, better Hits, ATT&DEF than Seraphin)
............
ia actually didn't know how this list would look until I started to write this post. It's also a hasty one so don't be to critical.

cosidering each town has an alignment, i dont think it will work like that jimpy,it would also take a whole lot of time to change the graphics that much considering the layout should be different for each town, (unless they do what homm4 did again.............) anyway, heres my idea for a new "inferno" town
l. imp (mana leech)
1. enslaved (immune to mind spells)
2. magog (fireball attack does not harm inferno units)
2. hell hound (no retaliation)
3. saladmander (immune to fire, burns enemies)
3. lava spawn (immune to fire, shots)
4. efreet (flying, fire shild immune to fire casts fire shield)
4. nightmare (fear,
5. balrog (flying, immolition, decapitate, as mighty gorgon from homm3 but only affects living with clear necks and heads)
5. pyros ( casts fire damage spells, very fast high pell power)
6. devil (teleport, no retaliation, cast sacrafice)
6. hellkite (flying, breath attack, fire and air spell immunity)

Another Town idea
I just remembered a town that me and my friend came up with about 6 years ago... around HOMM2. It would be called the barnyard town. Except that all the creatures would have strange abilities. Here goes:
1. Chicken - (Flier)
2. Pig - Basic melee grunt unit (yes, that pun was intended!)
3. Sheep - Regenerates (Gets a new fleece every round)
4. Cow - Shoots laser beams out its eyes - (they're magical!)
5. Horse - Maybe charging, definately something strange as well
6. Super Peasant (Farmer) Has a pitchfork and stuff. Maybe it could shoot lightning or he could summon other animals. Then eat them. Then he gets fat and gains hit points and crushes things.
That'd be a cool town!

Very funny
Let's get more serious.
I have an idea for a town, it's based on 4 aligments:
life, nature, order, and light.
lvl 1
Gremlin - 1 attak, 2 defance, ranged weapon, 1-5 damage, 10HP. cost: 10 gold.
Leprachaun - 2 attak, 1 defance, 2-5 damage,
spell caster: <Irish luck>, 12HP. cost: 10 gold.
lvl 2
Malitia - 1 attak, 2 defance, 11-22 damage, 30HP.
cost: 25 gold.
Pigeun Feari - 0 attak, 2 defance, 6-11 damage, 45HP,
spell caster: <Haste> <Bless> <Lightning bolt>.
cost: 40 gold.
lvl 3
Oracle - 2 attak, 2 defance, 45-80 damage, 80HP,
spell caster: <bless> <lightning bolt> <Life ward>
<nature ward> <order ward> <light ward>.
cost: 70 gold.
Pegassi - 2 attak, 2 defance, 60-80 damage, 100HP.
cost: 100 gold.
lvl 4
Roc - 4 attak, 3 defance, 120 damage, 180HP.
cost: 130 gold.
Light Bolt - 3 attak, 4 defance, 100-170 damage, 170HP.
cost: 130 gold.
lvl 5
Spawn Monster - 6 attak, 4 defance, 200 damage, 200HP.
cost: 300 gold, 1 mercury.
Cannon - 5 attak, 5 defance, ranged weapon, 180-190 damage,
200HP. cost: 330 gold.
lvl 6
Crystal Dragon - 8 attak, 9 defance, 250-400 damage, 600HP.
cost: 900 gold, 6 crystal.
Heaven Archer - 9 attak, 8 defance, ranged weapon,
300-400 damage, 1000HP. cost: 1400 gold, 2 gems, 3 crystal.
All creatures are soppused to be missing from the town of their alligment.
The Spawn Monster is an accident that happened to an Alchemic while using mixures(Mercury) in an expirament. It's alligment is Order and it's dwelling is:
'Ruined Laboratory'.
