Yeah but in this case a man died, so definitely a case would follow.
His body camera fell off so there was only audio. I'm not sure to what extent the other PO's cameras recorded what was going on.
Anyway, I wouldn't be so convinced that there would have been a conviction.
Also, USA has a stronger emphasis on juries despite a pretty strong body of evidence that juries are a bunch of bull**** and panels of judges are better.

you only have one judge for a judge trial; not a panel of them.

Depends on the case or the country, but outside of places that derive from English Common Law, people don't usually use them, probably because they are garbage.

we're talking about the states, though. and no, a judge trial is not better than a jury trial. the difference is 1 possible non-retard judging you out of 3 or 4 retards, vs the chance of 1 possible non-retard judging you out of 12. better odds with a jury, as long as it is a balanced and unintimidatable jury; and not that obviously biased and intimidated jury that chauvin got.

There were 4 cops there. Plus probably street monitoring.
But yeah, I guess without the brave journalists action the guy would be free now.

In this specific case, the video was decisive. But on a general stance, filming people doing their work changes the way they do it. Sometimes in a positive way, sometimes in a negative way, so I don't think is a good idea to point a camera on every cop struggling to do his job, which is a highly risky job.

You mean, cops' shortcomings shouldn't be exposed?
Because - who'd have a problem with cops handling a risky/dangerous situation well being filmed? I mean, everyone had a field day - look at how good our cops are!

Yeah, this is exactly what meant, cops bad actions should be hidden and people exposing them should be arrested. Thanks for clarifying my comment.

People have been regularly recording stuff like firefighters & police at a burning building, etc., for 20+ years now. I don't think they (the emergency personnel) pay any attention to it.
As far as somebody being abusive: that is a perfect time to pull out a camera considering police officers almost always win on testimony alone. You're not used to the US. The latitude the courts and incompetent juries show towards police officers using lethal force is very, very "generous". Just consider the fact that in the US, it is the norm for police officers to carry guns, not an exception.

The problem is that the camera only records the effects, not the causes. You must get back at roots, which is police proper training, proper physical condition and proper psychological review.

Which is all well and good (I mean... seriously... why would I have an issue with any of that?), but an accompanying video that can refute whatever bull**** the police officer might give in their report to self-exonerate themselves is also important.
Great example of a simple video clearing up something with a guy who otherwise probably wouldn't have faced consequences. Now, thankfully, he is fired:

cop police cams should always be recording once they're in uniform, and the video should be available for the public for all to see(along with police vehicle dash cams which will always be on while on-shift). then, you can remove every other video camera outdoors. after that's done, all unmarked cop cars should be either decommisioned, or painted up like a usual cruiser. no secret police, or orwellian cams up anywhere. and there should be a civilian oversight committee to watch all the videos daily, and catch the cops who run red lights just because they feel like it, as well as the cops who sit in neighborhoods pulling people over for going 1 mph over the speed limit.
instead, they should sit in ghettos and drive around them constantly, and keep an eye peeled for actual CRIME. then if they're needed somewhere else, they can trade off with other cops.

If a police officer has a bodycam at all times strapped to their physical person, it isn't Orwellian, but if there's a camera next to a traffic light, it is Orwellian.
I'm starting to understand how you think. If it affects somebody else, whatever, it is completely fine. If it affects you, it is tyranny.
What is wrong with having both?

Salamandre's typical way of "discussion":

Bold print is obviously an opinion.
JollyJoker said: You mean, cops' shortcomings shouldn't be exposed?

Italics probing what that somewhat vague opinion AVTUALLY means. Question mark in bold print shows it's a question. Adding that filming strong cop action would see everyone happy obviously.
Salamandre said: Yeah, this is exactly what meant, cops bad actions should be hidden and people exposing them should be arrested. Thanks for clarifying my comment.
Bam! Meltdown.
Unprovoked. Unjustified. Just a hostile nonsense comment.
That's no way to be respected.
