Generate Maps with Roe
Is it possible? I've been told that I need SOD, but maybe you experts on this *coughmidnightcough* can help me. Boy my allergies are acting up again.

I got my copy of Heroes in the Millenium addition. That's around the time I first started going to TOH. Back in season 3.
I've played a consistant 3 games a season. lol
I'm behind schedule in this most recent season. I've only played 2 games.
That makes about 10 online games of Heroes! lol
I don't 11 consecutive free hours on my hands everyday unlike you.
Oh yeah that's right I have to be nice.
Thanks Splexx. That's the most helpful thing anyone has done for me in the past 5 minutes. I say this from the bottom of my heart.
btw, I think that if this experiment works with getting a random map generator with Roe, then it should be downloadable from Myths on the Maps page. It would be cool if there was one for Sod players too. Newbies would like this, including the incredibly inexperienced veterans like me.

u cannot make/generate random maps with RoE.
as far as i know, the generator only shipped with AB, but the generator can be made to work within SoD.
i think u just copy and paste the relevent bits and piece's and create the folders etc with the AB stuff into the SoD program.
or get Complete or Platinum which ships with random gen of course, but to make RoE accept the gen, dun work

You can indeed create random maps with ROE
Ive done it b4...all you need are a few data files from AB. put them in your data folder and you can make random maps. I forgot which files, but can recreate it if I get some time and remember to, but I know its possible.

Just realized I dont have ROE anymore
But I have regular SOD, which without AB cannot create random maps. I suppose if I can make my SOD create random maps without installing AB, then its the same for ROE, so maybe ill try that tonight after work

Well, you can always go to the map editor and generate a map from there and save it.

The map editor had a built in random map generator ever since HoMM1.

Well, I clearly recall generating randoms before I have even heard of AB and SOD. But what would I know? I have the worst memory ever lol.

Supposedly it's possible to generate random maps with a few dummy files that need to be created with word pad if you have sod. Apparently there must be some data files in SOD that are necessary for randoms.
Did conflux come out in SOD? I have a hunch that perhaps the rmg.txt files are telling the game to use Conflux or something like that. Maybe I need the data files necessary for Conflux in order to generate maps. Perhaps that is the flaw with Roe.
What are the differences between Roe, Sod and AB?
I was looking through the generators of rmg.txt files and I noticed a column called elemental. Does this deal with conflux? If so, could this line be deleted for generation using Roe. Perhaps it does not work without this column in later versions, because it is crucial to involve conflux in the scripting else the files do not work for map generation.
I'm going to try this right now.

You donīt have to try this out, because this has NOTHING to do with rmg.txt!
Conflux came out with AB, not with SOD. The new stuff in SOD were the combined artifacts, the elemental grounds, some refreshed stats of some units, like AAīs cost now gems too and lizardwarriors have better attack and defense skills.
If i remember correct, you have to take a look in your DATA directory, and their have to be some ".lod" files, which make the game able to create a random map.
In my directory of SOD, their are the following files:
H3ab_ahd.snd
Heroes3.snd
HiScore.dat
H3ab_bmp.lod
H3ab_spr.lod
H3bitmap.lod
H3sprite.lod
H3ab_ahd.vid
video.vid
and of corse my own rmg.txt (you donīt really need it!)
So i think the important file is the H3ab_spr.lod.
Perhaps you can try to copy the "H3sprite.lod" and rename it into "H3ab_spr.lod" and then it works? I didnīt try that but itīs a try, isnīt it?
But If you delete the "elemental row" in your Rmg.txt file, i think that wouldnīt work at all. Just take a look, if there is an "x" in that row. I think you should find this "elemental" row at least two times in your rmg, because you need it one time for town type, and second time for wandering monsters type!

The problem is that I don't have data files for changes from Roe to Sod which are necessary for generating random maps. I need the data files specifically from a person who has AB or SOD for it to work.

jeez, just what game version do u have redsox? if u have RoE, U CANT MAKE IT INTO A RANDOM GENERATING GAME ! there r several reasons i do belive. sod was not just an expansion but almost a new game from the ground up, the coding is different, not just the different monsters and in game stuff. if u really want the low down on this, u better asking the WoG guys who have been programing and adapting HoMM over the years as they have the most experience on this subject.
if u have sod, u can modify it i belive by using the relevent stuff from AB. but i thought the whole point of this post was that only had roe.
just be easier if u ask some1 in a really nice way to send u a copy of complete or platinum man lol.
