Which Towns Make The Cut?
NWC announced that in H5 there will be 6 towns. Which towns do you think are going to be in H5? I think their is either 3 evils and 3 goods or 2 evils, 2 goods and 2 neutrals. There WILL be a Necropolis.
1. Knight/Life/Castle/Haven
2. Wizards/Tower/Order
3. Warlocks/Dungeon
4. Necropolis/Death
5. Barbarian/Might
6. Nature/Preserve

Actually, the good-evil-neutral division is the principle of HOMM3. HOMM4 worked with the "everyone for themselves" principle. No town was really considered good or evil. I think that HOMM5 is going to be more or less the same principle, perhpas with a few alliances.

if there is a HoMM5...
and NWC (under a new employer) decides to go for the 2/2/2 split, chances are thetowns will be like this:
Good: Haven, Academy
Neutral: Stronghold, Preserve
Evil: Necropolis, Asylum
of course it would be nice to have the Fortress back... but I don't see this happening anytime soon...

Something to think about. Taken from The Round Table posted by Sir Mullich.

When I collected al of this data I would make lists upon lists of DO's and DON'T's, CAN's and CAN NOT's. After this I would go to JVC and ask him to look it over ideas would spread from there.
LOL! When we started Heroes 4, JVC said it was time for a big change. He had us distill the Heroes series down to its essence, which was something like "Heroes leading armies of fanciful creatures, hired from towns built by the heroes our of resources gathered from a map." That was the sum total of our CAN's and CAN'T's list. Beyond that, anything goes, he told us.
We coined that meeting our "sacred cows" meeting, because it defined the (few) "sacred cows" we couldn't revise and still call it "Heroes of Might and Magic."
Since we're talkin about new publisher, an all new developement team (which may or may not include JVC) I'd say that Heroes 5 could be anything.
While it's true that work on Heroes 5 had started, there's nothing saying that this work will be continued. NWC as a company doesn't currently exist any more, and the new publisher can simply choose to restart all over again.
Oh, there is one more sacred cow if JVC is behind the developement. Apparently there must be a hero called Crag Hack, since this is the name of JVC's original D&D character.

Then I must say the standard/original 8 towns is the best number of towns to be considered.
As to good-evil-neutral proportions,it need not necessary be fair.
Now why must they make it 6 towns again? Is it to make users to get a good feel of the game? Just look at starcraft-3 races. Warcraft 4 races. You don see warcraft with 5 races, now why is that so? Reason is simple-they don want players to get too confused and mixed up and avoid trying other races.

Right, these are the only sacred cows from JVC's point of view according to Sir Mullich, so the towns could be completely different!
Of course, there is a necropolis, we're sure about it, but we don't know whether there will be knight town or not!
I think there will but I also think it will be slightly different.
There could be weird alignments, for example, the phoenix could be in a desert/egyptian town with genies, mummies and nomads, the dragons could be in a swamp city or in a dark castle. The titans could be in a greek town with the centaur, pegasus, or in a mountain city with dwarves and rocs, mixing creatures in different castles is not very difficult in Heroes.
There could also be a wide range of neutral creatures: behemoths, wolves, boars, bandits, harpies, maybe all/most demons, it would make sense for almost all animals and "unsociable" creatures.
They can do something new without the original alignments.
