who are you consis ? responsible community member who wants to see everything perfect ? drop the faq/rules thing to the moderators...and for the wasteland, start wif your thread on turban tribunal about red stars LOL.. what a waste of time..
i think cheat codes are necessary for testing game and to verify your online opponent excuse... sometimes on randommaps we have a restart rule in toh about hard misplaced guards or primary mines blocks.. we restart if opponent tell us these generator mistake... if you dont know well your opponent its normal that you check the map by reveal-all cheatcodes on single player... sometimes some clever dudes wants to restart when their start isnt good...

Those codes are a lifesaver when it comes to checking gamesaves to see if any cheating was going on.
For example, give a hero unlimited movement and take him and a single level 1 critter on a tour of the map to see if any big stacks of monsters want greater glory. Find a stack that does and you can be fairly certain the map was edited before the game began.
Need to see the entire map to get an idea of what was going on? Much easier to use the reveal map code and have a look than to view it from both player's perspectives in a hotseat load.
Things like that.
Playtesting maps has already been mentioned. I think that this is probably the real reason the codes were left functional. Give a hero unlimited movement and check to see if events get triggered properly when he hits a certain tile or whether or not a certain area is passable, etc........
As far as using them for cheating purposes in multiplayer games goes, the most common one by far has got to be nwcdisconnectfromgame. It's effects aren't immediately apparent, but once the game's reloaded anything can happen, lol.
Good thing it's a pretty easy one to detect

Damn, I have AB and am stuck in a campaign map because I can't find the last creature dwelling to flag...
I killed everything you can kill, took everything I can take etc ... In short, the chalenge is gone.
In my opinion a win-game cheat would be allowed now ..
Sadly it doesn't seem to exist for AB :@

hmmm....different for H3 RoE. unlimited movement was nwccoconuts and instant win was nwctrojanrabbit I think.

Ok i think i'm the only person in the world that can't get these cheat codes to work.
one of my own maps, months 2, week 1 day 2.
each time it goes to oranges turn we get a microsoft visual c++ error (first time we've ever had this problem)
i've reloaded the game, back a few turns, same problem.
i've tried to get it so i can see the world to see what orange is doing and hopefully be able to fix it, but, i can't get any of these view world maps to work.
i've tried
nwcgeneraldirection
nwcrevealourselves
nwcwhatisthematrix
it's a shadow of death map
heroe's 3 complete version 4
i've tried finding no cd cracks, changed the resolution from 32 to 16, (there's a couple scratches on the cd) so i made a copy and tried that. everything is comming up the same.
while i'm waiting for a reply i'm going to try and install the game on my other system, and copy the saved game and see if it works.
anything anyone can think of to fix this, please let me know.

Did you try to just do "something" else? I remember from long forgotten times that there was this bug in HoMM III 1.0 that crashed on me (with the official CD, just for corectness' sake) and if I just did _something_ (like buying that extra goblin, deleting some monsters, moving my hero to somewhere else) I got passed it all.
Furthermore, I don't know if you can dl any more updates (I don't have the complete version) but that could be another way to solve it all.
Hope those get you any further :S

Cheat Codes
It is not make us feel better after playing HoMM with cheat codes. we don't proud of our triumph if we win. And of course, we want to end the game as fast as possible without enjoy it. Moreover, we won't get first place in Hall of Fame after getting 'Cheater!!!' message.
But, we need those codes in some cases. When we play Campaign, for example HoMM 3 AB Campaigns, we know that the 6th Campaign, Foolhardy Wizwardness (or Wizardness, or something that I've forgotten), won't be opened unless we had cleared before the five Campaigns that had been able to be played.
For example, you have won 4 of the 5 Campaigns. then when you want to play the 5th, your computer have error, and you must re-install the HoMM. Of course you want to play the 5th camp again to open the 6th. but will you play the other 4 once again? I'm not sure. So, you just enter those codes, and you'll won the 4 scenario only in few minutes. And the last campaign opened.

Enabling the Built-in Cheat Menu:

Heroes III comes with a built-in cheat menu that can be enabled by adding a code
word to the shortcut that starts the game. In RoE, AB and SoD, the code word used
was "/nwcgrail".In WoG, this code word has been changed to "/zvssveta".
The code word should be added after the full path and file name in the shortcut.
For example, if you have WoG installed on the F drive in a folder named
"Wake of Gods", your shortcut will look something like this:
"F:\Wake of Gods\h3wog.exe"
Simply add "/zvssveta" to the end of it, so now it will look like this:
"F:\Wake of Gods\h3wog.exe" /zvssveta
If you're playing WoG in window mode, the cheat menu will be in the upper-left
corner of the screen as soon as you start the game.
If you're playing WoG in full screen mode, press the F4 key on your keyboard to
temporarily switch to window mode. The cheat menu will appear in the upper-left
corner of the screen. Press F4 again to return to full screen mode.
The built-in cheat menu may be used on the adventure screen or the combat screen and
functions a bit differently for each.
Note: if the "Disable Cheat Codes and Menus" option is enabled, the Built-in Cheat
Menu will be disabled. The menu will still appear, but clicking any of the menu options
does nothing.
Using the Built-in Cheat Codes:
