Personally i'd like to fry up The Ring as nr 1. It's the only film that REALLY scared me, i might get a little chok in other movies.. But nothing really mentionable, but the ring(The American Version, the japanese one blows)really freaked me out. I was watching over my shoulder for 2 weeks, it totally pushed me off the Edge..
Before i scare you all away, lets see your opinions folks.. I know you've got them!
UNCLE DEAL WANTS YOU!

"THEY"
Never...ever...watch this movie unless you want to waste your valuable time & hard-earned money. "They", by Wes Craven, is the dumbest and worst movie that I have ever seen...not just the worst horror flick ever!
My main annoyance with this so-called film, was that it did not even follow its own "rules"...If you say that these creatures only exist in darkness, then don't have them dragging people across well-light rooms.
Wes Craven must be starting to suffer from Stephen King Syndrome because he is writing crappy screenplays that are somehow getting made into even crappier movies.

Agreed about the ring. i dont watch horrors to be afraid. (its for the kids) the ring is excellent because it has a beautiful morbid aesthetics. although imo, they mess the story a bit in the end. and the scene with the freak girl exiting the tv is just plain stupid.

The King And His Prince
Bella Lugosi is to horror films what Elvis Presley is to Rock & Roll. All hail the Undead Elvis; hail to the King baby. And in the unnatural order of things, the Prince of Darkness shall forever remain Vincent Price. Both are legends of the horror film industry.
Edit: I had forgotten Johnny Depp's role as Ichabod Krane(I think) from the movie, "Sleepy Hollow". I felt his performance, of the doctor that specialized in post mortum biology, painted significant similarities to the fictional character from Diablo2, the Necromancer. It all seemed a sort of 'field of expertise'; the whole death and necromancy thing. Their dialogues almost sounded the way a real doctor speaks when discussing modern medicine with a patient. I found it very interesting.

Well RealDeal i woul definately agree with you about the Ring. Over here in the UK we have lots of these polls in which we see tv programmes of top 50 worst ever song, scariest movies, worst PR decisions and so on. For the top 50 scariest movies The Shining came out as number 1, but this was b4 the ring came out. I have seen both and for hairs standing on end then The Ring gets my vote.

Philosophical Moment
Isn't it weird how the zeitgeist of newer scary movies portrays small children as being scary and evil? It can't be good for society to view children like that. Years ago children were associated with happiness, joy, love, and innocence. Maybe that's why the world is supposedly getting worse and could help explain this. If you look at life's miracle as fear, then the world could be striving towards an inevitable apocalypse.
Just a Thought...

Yes, children in horrors is interesting topic. I think the reason is far less apocaliptic than what dingo said. Since, the essence of fear is the unknown, and people get bored of the unknown hiding in the dark or not showing at all, the compromise achieved is showing the "scarecrow" in full daylight in the form of a demonical kid with an unknown nature. What increases the unknown is its unpredictability when hidden in kids, since people have an already determined set of patterns of unknowns for adults (like murderers, psychos, terrorists lol), and it ruins the unknown's chances to be a good unknown.
A witty idea really.

Well.. The most Horror films were kids might scare you are often based on mystery. It's the horror movies that makes you think that scares you. Example the ring. If you from the start had seen the little girl run around, you might not had been frightend, but so much had happend that she had been forged into your brain. I like that way of scaring people.
And about the TV scene in the ring, it sure gave me a shock..
