Mapmaker
Hi. I thought I would open a disscussion for the mapmaker for Heroes V. We know about nothing, other than there will be one. let us speculate on the mapmaker.
Thoughts: In Heroes 4, there were several different types to the same terain. this may carry over.
There were thousands of options in heroes 1, 2, 3, and 4, so will there be more? less? same number? what?
In an interview they mentioned you will be able to raise/lower terrain.

This mapmaker should have more options I think than previous heroes. The terrain was so far flat and all you had to do was basically plant trees and drag and drop mountain ranges. Here the terrain itself is ondulated so yes, it's only logic that you have to modulate it. For the rest though it looks like basically the same. Yet they said that dialogue boxes (text) will be reduced to minimum, so I wonder, could the mapmaker actually record his own voice telling the story behind the map? That would be pretty cool...

I am looking foward to the new map maker. I have wrote many maps that i distrubute to my friends for use however, i hope that the random map maker comes back from HOMM 3, that was one thing i used more than anything for games that i would play in a group of friends. It took the long hours out of making a map that had some of the specific resource quantities and terrian types i wanted for a group play.

the new editor
I wish the editor (note that "mapmaker" usually refers to a person making maps ) had a good scripting system - as powerful as H4 or WoG.
Other than that, here's hoping the game will be easy to mod WITHIN the editor, not by hacking the files or the source code.
Those two features would enable mapmakers to create great custom maps.
Speaking of which...
LaBoule, the moderator/webmaster at Heroic Corner, said (quoting): "As a secret I can tell you that our people will be making the maps for HoMM V". This means that guys from Heroic Corner (mods and probably highest profile members) will be responsible for at least a part of H5 maps.
Does this mean that they have an exclusive deal with Nival?
I'm sure there were other people who would have been interested in making maps for H5... Oh, well.
It's a bit strange, isn't it?

I think that you should be able to paint the land much more faster, this was very frustrating when trying to make Huge H3 maps.
Also instead of clicking and dragging items you should be able to click to select and click to place as often as you like until you select another item like it was in the H1 level editor.

Yeah, the heroes 1 mountainmaker was good. mabey there will be something like that, combined with the thing from heroes 3 expansion that let you select where you wanted it to go with a sort of blue thing.

There were brushes in both H3 and H4 editor...
The problem is the adventure map in H3 and H4 wasn't a MAP (like in H2) anymore, but a WORLD - with all those rocks, flowers, etc. You simply had to decorate more!

But there IS a copy/paste option in H3 and H4...?

The homm1 editor is a pain to use simply because the mountains and trees etc are not allowed to overlap when placing, and that has been rectified by the homm3 editor. I wonder if the homm5 editor will instead follow a neverwinter nights style editor, with zooming and object rotation and such.

this brings up a point: how do you define passability in a 3 dimensional world? Will it be like a big invisible brick, or will you be able to go right up to the objects?
also, what colors do you think will be used? (eg. in heroes 3 there were 8, red, blue, green, teal, pink, tan, orange, and purple)
Moderator's note:This topic has been closed, as it refers to an older version of the game. To discuss Heroes 3, please go to Library Of Enlightenment, to discuss Heroes 4, please go to War Room Of Axeoth, to discuss Heroes 5, go to Temple Of Ashan.
