Forum Activity? Make a joined Faction
Anyone want to do a Fourm Activity of making a Join-Faction? It would be where each one will take a part of the faction, and make idea on that, and than will be put together at the end.
The catch is that you would not know what faction it is yet (to reveal only once everyone is "assign" and take a part).
The parts would be:
Part 1: Lore (Baklava)
Part 2: Facts and Trait (Serpent2)
Part 3: Motto (bixie)
Part 4: Level 1 Creature (Evil_Warrior)
Part 5: Level 2 Creature (Vlaad)
Part 6: Level 3 Creature (Asheron)
Part 7: Level 4 Creature (VokialBG)
Part 8: Level 5 Creature (Ted)
Part 9: Level 6 Creature (VokialBG)
Part 10: Level 7 Creature (Pomo)
Part 11: Racial Ability (alcibiades, Geny, bixie)
Part 12: Hero (Vlaad)
Part 13: Hero (bixie)
Part 14: Campaign Story (GenieLord)
Part X: misc(?)

So anyone who want to join will take a Part... and once all the part are taken... than will reveal the Faction/Race/Theme (which would be something that is more "challenging", and not the typical norm)

The Monkey People!
Would theme after a race of Monkey-man. While not popular in the Western Mythlogy (nor D&D), the moneky people have a strong standing in the eastern Myth. And it is chosen very much for the challenge, than popularity or matching with common HoMM lore (but matching it is part of the challenge)

(well, the last one is not really mytho, nor are apes monkey, but still give some ideas)
I think a Jungle type of theme, with strong influces of Asian (India, Thailand, Chinese) culture would be a good platform to jump from, althought you are free to do your own takes.
So start concepting, and brainstorming, and put it up. And keep in mind the earlier poster will tend to get a advantage in swaying to the final shape of the faction. And all are free to change/modify/resubmit their ideas in later time as well. Of couse part of the exercise and the fun is to work with other (but you still keep the final say on your part)

Not exactly. If I understood correctly actionjack's idea, every part will be done by its group of developers without knowing what the other groups are doing (that's why I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to give one person multiple tasks). Then when we combine everything it would be fun to see what came out of it. The creature line-up and its connection to the racial ability should be the most interesting part.

Well, yes. It is going to be plane more as a Fun activie, and a creative challenge, than trying real hard to come up with a true-workable faction (there are many thread for that)
Oh, and a bit of fore-warning, the Race/Theme/Faction will be something more "non-typical". Thus don't expect it be something of real serious, like Orc or Naga, but something that most likly would never be put in HoMM... (but that is also the part of the challenge)
Of couse, that does not mean you can do some wacky stuff... you still have to make it with seriousness, like its for development.
And Geny, are you going to take a Part?

So kind of like consequences games! I just assumed that since each creature was being done by different people, they would be working together on it - otherwise e.g. a particular idea could be repeated...

No, I actually thought the theme would be revealed before we started. I also thought that each task would have only one person assigned, unless they applied as a group. If people want to do #11, I can also be transfered to #10. We could also try to look at it together Geny.

Well.. about the revealness of the theme. While its is the more "proper" way (like the Perfect faction series) for a join effort faction, but I think it also is a bit dull, because than people would contribute base on how well they like the theme or not... And that give them the option to join or not. However, in this activity, the goal is get people to join first... and making them bite the bullet, and force to create something, even if the theme is something they don't like, or difficult... and there lies the challenge and the creative excercise. (also its a differnt approach to it)
There are also several phase to this (assume if it has a good turnout of couse).
-Phrase 1 is the sign up
-Phrase 2 is Reveal of the theme, and people will have to work with that theme of their part (be they like it or not)
-Phrase 3 is the discussion (can happen along side with phrase 2).
-Phrase 4 would be a the redraft, where people are encourage to redraft their parts base on what other people posted (they can suggest, but still can not step overbound)
-Phrase 5 is patch it all together, and sit back, and drink some coffee...
After the intial post, people are free to adjust and change their ideas. It is also the fun of knocking ideas around from one person to another, and working, adjusting (or even sabotage)...
Anyway.. finish the sign up... else will start assigne more than one part to a person.

Its list two because that mean one person can do one hero.. another do another...
If no one want to do the Hero, I will take it out.
