Quote: The same is true for spells - each of Arcane Crystal, Regeneration Vampirism, Puppet Master, Deep Freeze didn't show in H3 and that's a big disadvantage.
Puppet Master did exist but it was called Hypnotize (air magic, level 3), and in trade-off H5 doesn't get Precision, Counterstrike, Magic Mirror, Fire Shield, Inferno, Quicksand, Remove Obstacle and Prayer. They also miss out on adventure spells like View Air, Fly and Water Walk.
H5 has barely any more combat spells than H2 (which had 41 not including the mass spells), and in fact has fewer before TotE came along. They also have fewer adventure spells than any other title in the series (including H1).
Quote: Combned stacks... of course I mean armies who consist of many different creature types. Again, they are good altenation for plain simple standard stacks.
So you can place standard and upgraded creatures in the same stack?

i agree on picking on the graphics of H5.
although they are neat and very good eye food, they are a little bit exagerated. im not saying to go back to h3. i like the 3d, i just dont need to see the patterns on a heroes' belt
cutting down on the graohics would be great, it would mean i could play more cus i get anoyed at the time it talkes for my pc to process the info, and if leaving the graphics alone on the next heroes gives more time to think up a story, then go for it. story/gameplay too repetitive

Reducing the graphics for me would mean a different thing: I could no longer tell the division of work for my laptop, is it for office matters or for playing Heroes?

Have you ever played this game? You can place ANY combination of monsters in every stack. Gremlins with golems is a good example.

No I haven't, I've got more important things to spend my money on, like rent and my degree. Besides down here in New Zealand it's barely been on the shelves (hardline gaming shops had it for a while, but no-one else).
So how do the stats work, is it average out, majority rules, lowest-of-the-group of what?

I loved Heroes III and I have always been one to push for a tune up of such a classic as opposed to a completely new makeover of the game.
Many argue, and I agree, that several ideas and concepts within Heroes V were directly borrowed from Heroes III.
However, my largest problem with Heroes V, and this is why I think I was turned off to Heroes V in the first place, is that it feels more RPGish than Heroes III.
The Reason:
I know this has been mentioned before but I wish to repeat the fact that the landscape in Heroes V is far too in depth. I mean that the scope of the landscape is too narrow. Heroes III on the other hand, gave a much broader view of the land and you felt more involved on a larger scale. Remember you could have about 8 towns or more after a hefty conquest at about the half-way point in the scenario on a sizable map in Heroes III (not to mention about 8 heroes running around as well).
Plus there were more creatures, towns, spells, artifacts, campaigns, creative scenarios, buildings, music, etc.
I enjoy the fact that developers want a 3D game and I'm all for it.
But can we have the same classic heroes + more
the same general towns + more
the same amount of creatures + more
macro, macro, macro
I think one of the largest arguments boils down to micro v.s macro
I like thinking and interacting on the macro level as opposed to the more RPGish, smaller scope micro view.
I think it's all just personal taste but I believe a larger viewpoint would really make for a better game.

I'd like to see a bit more depth to the economy / resource aspects. I found that HoMMV was often extremely bogged down or else too much of a running battle to even survive. Personally I preferred the more exploration / rpg style of the earlier games.
For example I'd like to see a bit more depth to how to use structures in the world. Perhaps if you were playing as a Knight 'empire' then peasants left in villages or dwellings would increase your tax takings for the empire. Could have similar effects for other Town types, ie dragon caves could hoard gems over time - recruit the dragons or leave them there for a resource bonus. I think that the game should reward sticking to your empire for greater bonuses however this shouldn't ALWAYS be the best way to go. Perhaps a more chaotic faction that thrives off combining creature types, a faction that warps the creature types you recruit into chaos versions.
Overall, I think the series has run it's race with the basics started so many years ago, we need to add something new and a stronger depth to the series to bring in new fans and reinvigorate the games. There needs to be a lot more variety in the methods you can use to beat levels in the campaign / single player maps, it seems like often there is only 1 real way to get through and if you lose troops on any particular fight - especially at the start - then you are doomed. I'd like to experience something more tactical so that instead of building up ridiculous armies to win you actually are able to throw troops away to fend off enemies or protect an area. There needs to be different tactics for different results.

It's good to see others agree with me.
The amazing graphics require folks to purchase up to date pricy computers or be doomed with slow death connection! my PC couldnt even handle the game, it just wasnt meant to be ;(.

I agree, any additional variables to effect strategy just make the game more amazing.
heroes 6 should be more variables and slightly better graphics than heroes 3

Yes, the graphics requirements for H5 look high (512 Ram and a 128 graphics card minimum, twice that recommended), so maybe we could switch back to a H4 style isometric setup (with a SC3K style turn-around ability), or even go back to the earlier style of having the hero appear way outsized in comparison to the terrain at least, thus cutting down the number of polys needed.
Of course, that's just for the terrain, but perhaps we could do an isometric for the cities as well, and for combat, that ought to cut down the power need for the graphics.

There's an attachment most of us have to many specific elements of past games. Why do the new developers insist that they take away these most beloved heroes (by creating similar, less awesome ones) and half the creatures, music, etc.
Also, this problem probably bothers only me, but Heroes III had specific music based on the terrain the hero was travelling upon and different music for every expansion's campaigns. The battle music also diffrentiated between three-four core songs. Not to mention the individual pieces for each faction.
Have any of you noticed that Heroes III music fit really well with the game, I mean REALLY well.
I don't feel the variety of music is as rich in Heroes V.
Also, some of the music can be a little overwhelming for the scene...the Haven for example. Well composed but I think there should also be a musical connection back to the old games (the old castle theme with more grandeur perhaps).
I still want there to me new music in every game, plus many other attributes, but show more things people can recognize and keep to the series please.

if they could make the game more moddable too would be nice...
if they gave us better tools to work with, this game would be soo much better too.

Just out of curiosity (I really don't the answer):
Did someone here purchased HoMM 3 right after it came out? And if so, how were its graphics for it's time both in terms of quality and demands?

This is a trap question. I and about 2000+ tohers bought it back in 2001, right after it came out. We never had to answer about graphics , as for such a game, it was not the purpose. They did not disturb us, that's all and we were talking about more valuable things than "how it looks".
It is the HoMM V graphics which made ToH implose and lose most of its veterans.

Vlaad, I don't really remember when it came out. ToH was born once HoMM3 came out, and all players from Oracle/Isle joined asap, as Vesuvius was our idol by that time. So the transition was fluent, we even did not notice we play a new game.
@Geny:
HoMM 2 minimum system requirements:
**486/66 MHz processor
**8 MB RAM
**2x CD-ROM drive, Keyboard, Mouse
**60 MB free Hard Drive Space
HoMM 3 minimum system requirements:
**CPU: Pentium-133 or equivalent
**RAM: 32 MB
**Video: 2 MB video card
**HDD: 200 MB
I don't remember having to buy a new machine.

Thank you.
In that case I agree that HoMM 6 graphics should be more or less on the level of those HoMM 5 because by then everyone would have enough power for those.

Exactly Yann
The Battle Music was great, I still listen to the music when not playing the game on YouTube.
The fighting system was good in HOMM3, because like MOST STRATEGY BOARD GAMES, you can see the entire board CLEARLY and not have to make camera angle changes.
If I could cast Sacrifice right now with expert fire magic, I would sacrifice the graphics and resurrect the strategies!
