Poll Question: What do you like reading?
So do you prefer fiction or non-fiction? Most people read both but lean heavily towards one or the other.
Bard's glade would be fiction tendencies, OSM is non-fiction tendencies.
Feel free to explain your vote.

I read both about equally. But I go in phases, reading fiction for a while and then going to nonfiction for a while. Right now I'm reading a lot of fiction. Just depends on my mood.

For leisure I read almost exclusively fiction, excluding news articles and such. I put up with enough nonfiction in daily living.

Generally I read both about equally, although lately I've been reading more non-fiction than fiction. Now (re-)reading:
The Age of Turbulence, Alan Greenspan
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Douglas Adams
Any suggestions as to what to read next? I already have a large "to read" list, but I'm on HC too much to read as much as I'd like.

I'm usually open to both fiction and non-fiction. However, since I'm in the thick of my college studies, there isn't much time to read fiction. Fortunately, I'm required to read a lot of history books, which helps to further my knowledge of events and issues that I find fascinating. I'm really into ancient and pre-modern history (East Asia, in particular), but I'm not that fond of reading about politics and government. The last piece of fiction that I was addicted to was Tolkien, which I hope to return to after the dust settles.

Any kind of story...
Fiction ones are nice but if you read much, they get boring Some of the fiction ones are inspired from the other, which are more famous

Reading any fiction is an utter waste of time. How can you spend your life on something that's not real?

^How you define reallity?!?How do you know life is real?!?You don't even know what happened in Earth millions of years ago and what is happening in other planets right now...maybe all those that some one writes happen to a universe and all these that someone on that universe writes happens here...
Anyway: on-topic:

you play heroes 5 right? that is fiction but in another form. as you are saying one should concentrate on something that is real. having no dreams and not dreaming away on something that's not going to happen cause that is a form of fiction. if you are like that I feel sorry for you.

Honestly? For a very long time I turn it on only to test new map/mod from myself or one of friends I prefer to add new content and improve the game, even though in the end it has no actual use.

Dreams don't come true on their own. It is you who has to make them become real. I see no way how enjoying some kind of fiction could help that.

Couldn't one apply the same argument to non-fiction? Of what practical use is it to know how cavemen really lived in prehistoric times?

How's this for an explanation?
According to Immanuel Kant, it is good that people believe in God and an immortal soul, because such belief is useful regardless of whether or not it is true.
By analogy, a good story doesn't have to be true for me to enjoy it

I love reading!
I like fantasy the most. But most sci-fi books kind of suck... if Animorphs count as sci-fi then its the best series I have read
Fantasy books I have read: Hobbit (but its more of a childrens book), Harry Potter 1-7, Eragon books (they are so good wrotten but its predictable... Arya is the next Dragon rider, they get married and leave Alagesia for the old elven kingdom across the ocean), Warcraft books (I almost cried reading Lord of the Clans, its so sad) but unfortunaly... Warcraft is so popular that there arent any Warcraft books in the schools library atm... I really hope they buy Rise of the Lich King... featuring Arthas life and the events of Warcraft 3.
I would also like to read the War of the Ancients trilogy.
Also Deltoras belt but its also for children.
I read some non-fiction too, but most of those are swedish.
