City building games

Recently I have begun to take pleasure in creating, rather than destroying cities. I heard that there are at least three titles worth considering:

-Cities 2011
-Anno 1404
-Civilization V

I was going to go with Cities 2011 becouse i played Cities xl, but recently i have been wondering between the three. I would ask users of this forum for opinions on city-bulding games, propositions and recomendations on such games. I thank you all in advance

Apparently, you don't build a lot of Cities in Civ 5, you just build a whole lot of Horsemen, right, Doom?

I'm generally not a big fan of cities, but games about it can be fun.

Zeus, Pharaoh, Emperor and Caesar are my cup of tea.

I like to play Caesar 3 sometimes. But there are aspects of Caesar 2 that I liked better, especially the way walkers work which severely limits how towns are designed in C3.

I thank you for your recommendation on Ceasar III. The game seems to have a lot of options but the interface might be a bit too old for me but I will give it a shot. Are there any new city-builders worth mentioning?

Romans with Cockney Accents <3 MF'ing WIN!!! <33333.

Such Wonderfull Game One of the best games I've ever played by far!

I kinda <3 City Building Games in general. Easily my favo PC game Genre, after TBS ofc. I never played any of the Caesar franchise, BUT, I did play the three non-Roman games of the series: Pharaoh, Master of Olympus: Zeus and Emperor. All three are pretty good imo.

Oh, and the Medieval Build-off's in Stronghold <3333 So fun <3 So real <3 so fierce <3 Man-voiced Females <3 Drunk Brewing Hagresses in Glam Teal Dresses <3 Cow-hurling Catapults <3 Bare-assed Archers <3 Duke Ratty de Puce <3

I love how he always places a convenient set of stairs on the outside of his walls so I can just walk up there and smash 'im. No need for any catapults or stuff.

Firefly really needs to make another Stronghold game... a good one.
With an Auto-Repair button!

1. Build Castle
2. Press "Save Castle Setting"
3. Get attacked by catapults
4. Press Auto-Repair button -> Castle is restored to saved castle setting

Would remove like, 60% of the micromanagment issues.

I.e: Stronghold Crusader 2
Like Stronghold Crusader, only with Stronghold 2's flashy graphics and nasty defences.

But they really need to scrap Stronghold 2's city management.
*Yah I build a house, 8 new peasants!
Now I just have to add a dung pit worker, a rat catcher, a medic, a priest and some farmers...why did I build the house again?*

Interesting thread. I would *love* to have a good city-building game which did NOT have a warfare feature. Warfare is good, but sometimes simple city-building (á la Simcity) is fun.

It would be nice to have something that looks pretty and preferably historic setting like ancient Egypt or something like that. I remember a friend of mine once had such a game, but that's ages ago, and I don't remember the exact name.

PS: CivCity Rome looks awesome, are there any newer games in the same style?

I posted one in the begining, it Cities XL 2011, its purely economic and stuff. Just like Sim City but in full 3d thus giving you the ability to create roads however you like. The game has a lot of microelements like when creating buses for your city (available once you have 50k ppl) you have to decide on their route al by yourself. You decide when and where it's supposed to stop, even how it gets to the stop. The game has lots of fun features for people who just want to build, you can even place individual buildings instead of placing zones for them, then they just pop up randomly. In the end this is the game i choose. Once im bored with it ill go to one of your propositions

Really? I think city building games are very stimulating and nice but then I have always liked to do creative stuff such as writing stories, drawing maps, creating religions and animals and building cities etc.
