need an information
Now i see, there are some professional football fans here, i have to ask a question, for which i couldnīt find an answer for long time, because here in germany, football isnīt that popular (what a pitty!).
If i remember correct, there are about 32 teams in the NFL.
But there are only 16 or 17 "playing days" (donīt know how you say it in english for SPIELTAG".
So what are the rules, which teams are playing versus which other teams? Because one team couldnīt play against all others in 17 days and it also doesnīt play only against the teasm of "their" conference!
So how does this work?
Could someone explain that to me, please?
BTW iīm a fan of the 49ers

angelito the nfl plays a 16 game season in 17 weeks. Each team gets 1 bye (Non-playing) week during the season.
No one should be calling me out, unless you put up your picks. Philly is going to win.

Quote: angelito the nfl plays a 16 game season in 17 weeks. Each team gets 1 bye (Non-playing) week during the season.
OK, i got this.
But which are the 16 teams, which for example the 49ers will play against, and why?
They canīt play against all other 31 teams, right?
But also, they donīt play only agaist the teams which are in the same conference, or am i wrong with this point?
So could no one tell me, whats the rule of this schedules?
OK i checked the whole schedule this season for the 49ers:
They are playing 2 times against the 3 teams in their own NFC WEST (St.Louis,Seattle,Arizona).
Then they are playing against 3 of the four teams of the NFC NORTH (Chicago,Minnesota,Detroit, but not against GreenBay).
Also they are playing against 3 of the four teams of the AFC NORTH (Cleveland,Pittsburgh,Baltimore, but not against Cinncinati).
Finally they are playing against 1 team of the NFC SOUTH (Tampa Bay) and 1 team of the NFC EAST (Philadelphia).
Is there any system here?
Is this every year the same schedule for all the teams?
Does anybody know this?
In germany itīs a little bit easier, because normally in every team-sport, every team will play against every other team of this league at home and away.
OK, i know, there is not so much time for the football season, because in some cities, they use the sportstadiums for baseball and for football.

I have no idea how good my picks are, lol, I haven't been following football much this year so I really don't know who moved to where during the off season. Of course it doesn't help that we currently only get one TV channel, lol, so information is limited. If we are going to do this each week I might have to study NFL.com hehe.

Each team plays every other team in it's division twice, once at home, once away, that's six games.
The other 10 games are determined in a really wierd way, but it basically comes down to how well you did the year before. The worst teams from the year before play each other and the best teams from the year before play each other. Or so they claim, it doesn't always work out that way.

No, i live in germany. Iīm a fan of the 49ers, because my first game i saw on TV was years ago 49ers vs. Kansas city chiefs and i liked the fascinating game of Jerry Rice. Now he plays for the raiders i think, but iīm still supporting the 49ers

Quote: ic okay just checking... they show NFL in Germany? Wow
Yes of course!
On the website of the nfl (www.nfl.com) you can see a link to the nfl europe, where 3 german teams are playing.
(If i remember correct, the quarterback from the rams has played in the nfl europe before! (is it Kurt Warner?))
These tournament is shown on tv, some games in full length.
After that game, they show about 2 hours (once in a week) american football on a public channel.
We also have pay-tv, where you can see EVERY footbal game of the nfl live, without paying anything more than your monthly salary (about 30 dollars)
Since we have our own basketball star (the german wunderkind Dirk Nowitzki) we can see lots of games of the nba in free-tv and on pay-tv, which i like a little bit more than football.
What we canīt see here is baseball.
Thatīs a sport, which isnīt very interesting for the most of us, sorry
