Babel Fish to the rescue!

(and I just put this back into Babel Fish to see what it really says...oh dear...)

Americans are one of the poorest people when it comes to multi-language speaking
and that was demonstrated not once

Boy is that ever the truth.  Isn't it nice hearing that from an American?  That's right.  I speak English...that's it.  I tried to learn Spanish but gave up when I saw their alphabet.  Only those Americans who are required to or have nothing better to do learn a different lanuage besides English.  Hell, about 30 to 40% of us can't even speak proper English.  That's why those damn Brits are always laughing at us.

My speak not first language english. I speak english much good. Know see problem talk wrong speaked. We friends understasnd all. No is problem say I am.

A good example from RMS on how "well" some Americans talk.  Although that sounds more like Yoda, It is not too far off.
Not trying to be racist or anything but a good majority of Black-Americans really screw up the English language and make us all look bad (as if we didn't already have enough problems).

So go ahead and keep blamming those poor foriners.  Just remember that not everyone can speak every language in existance.  Learning a new language can be quite difficult somtimes.  Take my word for it.

You gave up on Spanish because of the alphabet?  Spanish uses the Roman alphabet, just like English.  It just includes an extra N and some marks for the vowels.  Heaven help you if you'd tried to learn Greek...or Arabic...or Chinese...!

My school forced us to learn either French or Spanish.  I took Spanish because I had a background in French (hey, it made sense at the time).  Silx is right -- the more languages you learn, the easier they become, especially if they're in the same family.  Unfortunately, the older you are before you take on a new langauge, the harder it is to learn one.  If you were trying to first tackle Spanish in high school, it's no surprise that you found it intimidating, new alphabet or no.

Actually, the language as spoken by many African-Americans is a dialect.  People who speak it aren't "screwing up" the English language; they're just speaking a different version of it.

Here we have some bona fide Screwed Up English.    The funniest thing is that, poorly composed as it is (or carefully composed to look poor, as the case may be), the main idea is still discernible.  This should be comforting to anyone who's concerned about the quality of their English.

I don't care abou the foriegners here at HC.  And if you do not like foreigners, you are not a racist.  Some people here think that it seems, but the term is xenophobe.  Xenophobia is the fear of foriegners.

One of my pet peeves is little spelling mistakes and use of wrong words but I don't care where you're from, it's still wrong.

why should we care about foreigners at HC? I don't have a problem with americans and their crazy spelling.

I was wondering if there are any spanish speaking people here that could help me out. Bumble Bee Man from the simpsons always says Mosus Suerno (sp) and I want to know what that actually means.

Your´re so right in what you´re posting here.
Italian, french and spanish are all one family-language--> romanic. So if you can speak one of them, it´s really very easy to learn the others.
I don´t know the school-system in the USA very well, but isn´t there a possibility to learn other languages?
Here in Germany, you learn english in EVERY kind of school and in the higher qualified schools you will have to learn ONE more language at least (mostly french or latin, sometimes spanish). But more languages are possible, if you like to.....
So when you leave school with 18 or 19 and start your life as a student, normally you are able to speak at least 2 other languages plus german.
The new system here lets the children beeing able to learn english with an age of 8 years (third level in school) and i think that is very important, ´cause the internet is mostly written in english and it´s a main institution in our life now, and in future, i think. So without english, you won´t have any chance in future to get a quite good job.
For an 8 or 9 year old children, it´s very easy to learn other languages. For us, the older ones, it´s getting harder with every year. Use your chance to learn, when you´re brain is young and "hungry" for knowledge
