H5 Storyline
Quote: Storyline : I'd like to return the question and have your opinion about it (in a different thread I think). Open question at this stage.
your bidding is my command
Personnaly i would like a all new story line, its getting to drawn out right now, and trying to add new creatures requires almost as much thinking of how to incorporate them as it does drawing them up and inserting them.
new company = new story
you could always backtract to basics, heroes 1 or 2 and move forward from there, i.e. after Roland and Archibald, this would allow for drammatic changes that make sense.
what is every else's oppinion?

Yes, I would like a continuation, or at least something to do with the earlier games. I thought Heroes 2 had the best story line. I didn't really like the Heroes 4 story line but I think Ubisoft can fix it or make it better.

The storyline as such is not that important to me.
However, when it comes to the campaign format I want it like it was done in Heroes 2. You progroess through a series of maps and get different bonuses as you progress, depending on which missions you choose to undertake. Things like: "Dragon alliance" which causes all dragons you meet to offer to join, or "Necromancy guild" which gave a level 5 Necromancer at start of each following scenario.
The game works better if you don't carry over super-heroes between all the scenarios that comprise the campaign, or at least restrict this to the very end of the campaign.
In the beginning of the campaigns it's underlings that do the foot-job, the leaders of nations should not take part until late game, probably only the last scenario or two.

IMHO Heroes III RoE had the best storyline of the series, with the perspective shifting from the good faction to the evil one, but following a continous line of events (like in Heroes II). The campaign Armageddon's Blade from Heroes III AB used the same technique, to my enjoyment, and so did SoD.
I prefer this style to that used for the other campaigns in Heroes III AB and those in Heroes IV (the original ones), which weren't connected in any way (haven't played WoW or TGS, so I don't know what type of storyline these two used)

It would be a shame to start all over again, since the storylines for homm1-homm3 were all very interesting and intriguing (that is, until homm4's Reckoning wrecked the whole thing).
My opinion is that homm5 should start off where homm3 ended, as if the events of homm4 never existed - ie. Sword of Frost and Armageddon's Blade never clashed.

I would prefer the storyline from the end of Homm4 original story, where all the faction kingdoms are founded. Since WoW and TGS are not connected with the original Homm4, it shouldn't be include. I would prefer some time (10-30 years) after the original Homm4 events.

I think that Heroes 5 could start couple of year later where Heroes 4 original campaigns ended so those GS and WoW campaigns have happened and could be pointed through the Heroes 5 campaigns. So any campaigns haven't been wasted. (I mean of the storyline)

i think a new story would be better. or at least some real word instead "kreegans" should be used imho (unless someone explains me what the kreegans are).
closest match found in dictionary
Quote: Main Entry: kur·gan
Pronunciation: kur-'gän, -'gan
Function: noun
Etymology: Russian, of Turkic origin; akin to Turkish kurgan fortress, castle
Date: 1889
: a burial mound of eastern Europe or Siberia
there is a slim chance that someone might have associated the turks with devil and this is what the word was derived from, but..
..found no kreegans in mythological context by searching with google.
and the kreegans coming from another planet is also smoething that i don't quite like. actually i very much doubt that we should not be aware that any planet could be habitable. copernicus only published his ideas around 1500 ad..
Quote: Copernicus's book, in Latin, was published almost literally as he lay on his deathbed; he hesitated for years because he believed it would be considered heretical. A man named Osiander, who had been supportive of Copernicus, encouraged the publication but prepared an anonymous prologue which was meant to defuse criticism or prosecution by explaining that the ideas contained in the book were clearly nonsensical and not to be taken seriously!

Storyline is very important to me; it's one of the major reasons I'm hooked on the series.
There has already been a crash and restart of the storyline (attempting to "erase" inconsistencies inherited from previous games), and the GS and WoW campaigns were completely unconnected to the original H4 lines. That irritated me. I like to see familiar faces, recognize placenames, etc. A continuous history makes the world more realistic and adds depth. In my fanfic, I usually work with personal histories of heroes, but racial histories and national histories are important, too! M&M has always included a bit of sci-fi behind the fantasy. That's cool, too, as long as it doesn't turn into a hardcore sci-fi series on us.
I am curious as to how much fan input Ubi Soft will or can accept. For television shows, screenwriters aren't allowed to even look at fan fiction for legal reasons. Is that a concern for video games? And even if it's not, the developers may be onto their own thing that won't allow for peanut gallery ideas. As much as I'd love to have input regarding story, I do wonder if storyline suggestions are viable.
Edit: isn't "Kreegan" just a made-up name for the demon/alien race? As to interplanetary travel, HoMM/M&M isn't supposed to be taking place on Earth, so our (real) history is irrelevant.

I would definetely like to see H5 take place on a new world in the same universe, with new and good developed, strong characters, capable of producing bond between players and themselves.
New company, new graphics, new story.
It's all new. Period. (Sounds familiar?
