Yes there is all the rights and wrongs, the do's and dont's...the many ways to justify things like this. But to me these pics are jst so disturbing. I've grown up with dogs, theres always been a dog around as a companion, not a cow, pig or chicken. I guess thats why these pics hit harder in that regard and the blatant cruelty is all the more heartbreaking.

It is sad & even with Martigan pics, it seems alot send money but nothing seems to be getting done.
Like you have to go send monry to them on your own then mailing it to some fund raiser.

Really sad watching kids never having a chance in life & if they make it in life alone, they still have alot to go through.
If I was rich I would fly to poor countries & help out.

This is where I tend to argue with Mel, it seems like people in the american society are always ooooh aaahh about dogs & cats but not people.

Eg. watch a disaster movie in the theatre, where people are dying all over the place, but then it cuts to a scene with a dog getting injured, and watch how the audience will go 'oh no' all of a sudden.  Like... what about the 1000 people who died before the dog? LoL.

Alot of cold arrogant people out here, that have millions that would never be used at all which can be come to good use.
Theres billionaires & man you dont need that much cash to live a full life.
Theres ball players say baseball who betray teams to go to another just because a 20 mill salary cap is not a 25 million, bs & then theres those who are suffering while the rich can care less like a battle for power.

We feel protective towards those who are helpless, who cannot express themselves through speech. Maybe we even mirror our own former child selves when looking at those tortured animals.

In any case, I think itīs good that such psychological mechanisms exist. From an ethical point of view, itīs very problematic to explain why suffering humans are to be rated on a completely different scale than suffering animals.

But the reason is simple: We are humans, and they are not. Or to put it this way: Just like 300 years ago slavery was common practice and it was normal to be a racist, now we accept and support factory farming thanks to our specieist mindset.

Prick Us Do We Not Bleed

For some reason the fact that my posts thus far have yet to sympathize with these animals is eating at my conscience. In an attempt to ease my conscience I'm going to explore my own thoughts on this matter. It's kinda like talking to yourself I suppose or it could be referred to as soul searching. I don't know but it always makes me feel better after I'm done.

Question to myself:

Why do I look at these horrific pictures and immediately downplay the significance because they are not humans? Why does it feel so wrong to question their rights to live a long and normal life like other dogs?

Answer myself:

Perhaps it is because they deserve a shot at life too. Maybe my past experiences have some sort of influence. I have always liked dogs. I've killed dogs in defense before but that never affected my judgment when approaching dogs after the incident. I just keep thinking about all the times I have cuddled with a dog or a puppy. It was real enough then. It seems so long ago now but these pictures really seem to pull at my strings.

Question to myself:

What is driving me to imagine myself trying to save these animals? Why do I feel like playing the hero and selling everything I own leaving behind all my friends just to rescue these poor animals? Why would I think such a contradicting thought knowing full well that these animals carry a disease that could kill me? Is my sense of logic so vicariously flawed?

Answer to myself:

Well I know that if I saved just one puppy it would thank me with a thousand licks and a hundred playful yelps. It would be my best friend forever until old age prevented us from seeing each other anymore. I know that I would be there for you if you needed me. I could count on you to surprise me with all the wonderful things dogs can do. Yeah, I may get sick. Yes it is a deadly illness. Now I feel sad. I feel so sad because now there is nothing I can do. I don't want to look at these pictures anymore. But I have to make sure people know this disease could kill more people and animals if we don't figure out a way to fight it. I don't know but I guess all I can do is share information. If that's all I can do then I will. I want to prove that I am willing to do whatever I can. I guess I just have to let it go now. But it's still sad and those pictures are so real. I wish it didn't have to be this way.
