Not one for excuses...

OK, here's the scoop. I know you all are NOT happy and frankly, I don't blame you. Things have not worked as they should have from the very beginning. There are many reasons for that, most of them known, some of them not but I am not about to point fingers. With most of what has gone on every one involved shares a little bit of the blame so it's not really worth rehashing the past.

The mention of the "Under Construction" on the Clans page I will address. It was left there by accident because I didn't need to update that page for anything else so I forgot I had it there and didn't fix it. I apologize but I'm not perfect. Clans itself has not run the way I envisioned it. It was messed up from the beginning. I will take a big part of the blame for that because if nothing else I should have just worked out myself instead of relying on people that volunteered to help to do the setting up for me as many of them did not come through. Now I'm not talking about a good many of you that offered up bonus suggestions, you were wonderful and helped me out a lot.

Now, as for the current situation, I openly admit I have not been updating as regularly as I should be. But understand this, it has NOTHING to do with LAZINESS, I am a lot of things, but lazy is NOT one of them. I have been very busy and it is affecting my tournament work and I know it and I hate it. I realize it is you the players that end up with the short end of the stick and I feel really bad about it I do, but there is only so much I can do. I am still spending 10-15 hours a day at my computer, just now I have more computer duties to occupy my time so I have been able to dedicate fewer and fewer of those hours to MAH. It doesn't help that the administrative side of the tournament has just about doubled recently. We have a lot of new players and they tend to make more mistakes, which need fixing. I don't have a problem with that but it DOES take time and I have to do it right away because they only stay on the pages for 5 days. This means that I do the admin work first, then pages work, IF I have time, which is less and less often and definitely not daily like before.

The problem here is that I have a LIFE. At one time, when I first starting running Heroes Kingdom I didn't have much of an outside life so I had lots of time. Most of you know that I only work part time out of the home and that is still true, but other things in my life have changed. I have since inherited my niece and nephew, which are now 14 and 15 years old and a constant handful (have I mentioned lately that teenagers suck?!?). I have also become VERY involved with civic organizations in my community and that has been what takes a big portion of my time, especially now. My husband Glasschain, is the President of our chapter and I am the Management VP, which basically means I get to do all the paperwork. Thus still spending 10-15 hours on the computer with little time for tourney work. I am not telling you all of this to make excuses for me not being around because there are none, I admit that. I have a responsibility to you the players and I have not been fulfilling that responsibility. I admit that and I apologize for it. I only tell you so that you understand that 1) I am not lazy. 2) I DO care about you the players despite what some of you may think and 3)I have not "disappeared" without a look backwards.

NOW, here is what I plan to do about it. I am a realist and I realize that my time is such that about all I can muster is time to be an Administrator, I don't really have the time needed to be a tournament coordinator. Besides the administrative part is the part I'm actually good at, when allowed to concentrate on it. Realistically, I am not a very good Tournament Coordinator anyway. I don't have the experience to set up a balanced tournament, something I have ALWAYS admitted. I have always looked to the guidance and wisdom of others for such things. But in the past, I have always been darn good at keeping things organized (which is part of the reason it takes me so long to do things, because I do them the RIGHT way, the first time) and up to date. I still do good with the organization part but I have not had the time to keep things "up to date" anymore. It actually has to do with my extreme organization that I have not asked for volunteers to help me because you not only need to know how to update the pages, you need to be able to understand my way of organizing things, something no one has been able to do, you'd be amazed how few people can understand a database. But I am willing to relax a bit and if someone is willing to volunteer that has the time to do daily updates, is respected by the players, is acceptable to Ves to have site access, and can update in at least a remotely organized manner. I am willing, actually I am wanting a volunteer. If you are interested please send an email to raven@toheroes.com and include briefly how you plan to keep things organized (as in record keeping). Ves, if you have the time and would like the job, you are also welcome to it. I have long said I have no problem with you stepping in and helping but I have never ASKED before. Well, now I'm asking. I need help, who is going to step up to the plate?

What About The Old Saying?

Quote:

LOL, I would just like to say this sentence is my name incarnate! LOL! To coin a phrase: I haven't got a clue as to how to run a database!

This question has been nagging to be thrown out there:

Ravyn or KitteAngel do you get paid to perform your duties at ToH? I mean seriously, just how much work can we really expect from you if you are doing it all for free? Blizzard pays their employees. Quite very seriously, at some point, after a certain number of people are involved in the handling of such a large task wouldn't you think that you should be paid for it? I've looked at the ToH history and quite clearly, gone are the days when only a hundred games were being handled. Vesuvius says he's paid a substantial amount of money for a new server or whatever to allow games to get hosted on ToH. I am by no means even a novice when it comes to server knowledge but they most certainly don't run themselves. Is he going to expect people to run the server for free? If he does then the gamers should say to themselves:

"You get what you pay for. If you pay for nothing then expect nothing."

Tew, you "volunteered" for Honor Council, not for updating. I'm asking for help with updates, not an Honor Council person. And I let you do your job, and you know it, what I WOULDN'T let you do was boot someone WITHOUT any evidence. When you wanted to boot Killa, I stood behind you 100% of the way, in the face of criticism from MANY PEOPLE, from Admin to players to fellow Honor Council members. BUT when it came time to boot on the basis of a hunch I would not let you do it. You could produce NO EVIDENCE except your gut feeling. Now as I have stated I have since found enough evidence to do that booting. I might add I found it because I was willing to wait a little while for them to make a mistake so we could do the booting with sound evidence to back it up. I stuck it out and didn't quit because I didn't get my way! And yes maybe I should have asked for help sooner, but the problem is I have to have the time to train any helper as well, time I have NOT had. You can say that my excuses are the same as Kitten's all you want, but at least I tried, again and again and again I have tried to stick it out and get what needs to be done finished for this tournament. Can you say the same?

If life is getting that busy & you have the kids to think about & a community & the house & all the other stuff.
You think you have time for administrators work?
Personally I never did & still think that 2 administrators are wrong for one tournament.
I think theres secrets, arguments & access codes that are kept from another.

I am sure you are very organized Ravyn but your real life is taking it's toll,do you really think you can also come & update in a daily basis also?
A volunteer, can be hard finding a reliable one just like Jinxer years ago.
Since the beggining I was willing to do the best I could to help HC.
You guys didnt have faith in me & even to this day I would of been alive, reliable & probally alot harder then Motor even tho probally not as much, cant get as much tough as that bad boy was hehe.
Since most of the administrators & volunteers gfrom heroes 3-4 abandoned my aplication from HC I came to do my best in Volunteering, promising to be as reliable as Jinxer was to Vesuvius.
Once again the administrators from heroes mah abandoned my reply.
I may of been the only one that was willing to do all updates without even a single problem to this day.
I am done with trying & going to play AOW probally this week.

GL in this MAH I hope it still survives till heroes 5 comes out, I really do but the way I feel in some aspects.
I felt you were cold to all the volunteers that actually made the diference in the tourney, I dont know if it was resentment from past issues or disagreements or both etc.
All in All, no volunteers now & 2 HC, one thats barely active & one that only plays AOW now in secretcy, no one sees Death8 anymore.

Very sweet to look for help now that the tourney is dead.
Just prooves you 2 girls never understood the situation.
All that was important: its OUR MAH, with sweet baby photos and thanks giving photos to replace updates or any work done...

When Ves was head of ToH H3 he had quite a few volunteers, he did NOT do it all on his own and he has said this before.

@ Tew,

I have pleaded for help from many people within the past 8 months for help with updates, I do remember you saying you would help, but thats all that was said nothing else was brought up about it. You did a wonderful job on HC, as well as Motor did. Yes I have to give credit to Andi as well(shocking), He did an awsome job with the maps page.......If MaH had 2 volunteers and I mean 2, MaH/ToH would strive again. I have had quite a few people offer me help, but ONLY if divisions was brought back. Well I for one do not belive in blackmail threats like, bring divisions back and I will help, that is total horse pooh, if you turely wanted to help you would not just mention it....This is NO WHERE near an attack on anyone just alot of what I have heard and seen ffrom the so called "worried players"

Tew, this isn't rocket science. I couldn't find evidence then because it wasn't there yet. The connections that made it possible for me to get evidence weren't there then but exactly what I told you would happen, happened. People get overconfident and then they get sloppy and then they get busted. Plain and simple. The case you are referring to, at the time I took the advice of Deth8 and waited and it paid off and at the time that was all I asked you to do, was wait it out a little while, but you weren't willing to do that. I want cheater's out JUST as badly as you do but I am not willing to sacrifice the integrity of the tournament for it. I'd rather wait a little longer and get them with no doubts shadowed over the decision.

Ya know what, it pretty much doesn't matter what I do, you aren't going to be happy. If I am busy and don't post anything about my life I am "in the background" and "cold and standoffish", If I offer up a little about my life I'm "crying" about it. And up until the last 6-8 weeks, I HAVE had the time and have always gotten my updates done. Only reason I didn't ask for help right away was because I thought I would have the time after the holidays were done but it just hasn't worked out that way and I can tell now it's not going to. I have always done what I could with what I have had and most of you know that. I have never thought of it as "MY MAH" and ANDI if that's you, like most think it is, that comment alone ticks me off big time because you should KNOW BETTER. I have always asked for and accepted just about any and all advice and you darn well know it and so does Motor. I did and continue to do what I can with what I have control of. Until very recently I have always done right by it and now that I can't you are going to bad mouth me for having the honesty and the decency to admit it?

I told you straight out there wasn't any EVIDENCE that he was faking and that the records COULD be attributed to the fact that he played a lot of newbies. Both of which were supported true. I also told you that I didn't WANT to believe that it was true but I never doubted your judgement, I just wanted to wait until the evidence was there to support it. I consulted with Deth8 on what to do and I took his advice, I'm sorry if that offends you. I have continued to watch this entire time, which should be obvious now. I figured a smart guy like you was much more likely to be on the right track then a big softie like me, so I've kept an eye on anyone you and just about anyone else have told me to. I have more post it notes on  my computer then I'd like to count because of it but I don't regret waiting until the evidence was there and being sure then booting someone with out it and then finding out afterwards I was wrong. It's a basic tenet of law, innocent until proven guilty and you Mr. Prosecutor did not have enough evidence to get a conviction.

Swizterland's Opinion

This post is for Vesuvius,

I think that sometimes it is good to have an outsider's look in certain situations. It is especially useful when choosing someone for jury duty. As an outsider my opinion of all these people remains neutral. I don't know anything personal about anyone.

I would like to make the neutral observation that it seems like you have some very emotionally dedicated volunteers working for you on your website.

After listening to the many disagreements from those who have posted thus far I'm lead to wonder if the situation couldn't be improved upon by planting seeds of two kinds.

The first seed might be to create a good strong work ethic for your employees. I feel very strongly that, given the projected growth of ToH for Heroes5, enlisting the volunteers into employees would give them a very significant change in their priorities both for you and in their personal lives.

The second seed to plant might be a little visionary. What do you think about having your most loyal volunteers write up a ToH constitution? This would be an excellent start to set the stage for future volunteers and possibly employees. It might also require delegates from each of your ToH sections to gather(possibly here at HC) and voice concerns of a skeletal nature. I mean they could have a chance to voice how they think the core of your Tournament of Honor should be running. Also, since you seem to like the old Roman concept perhaps they could be your senators whose dictates must be approved by a majority rule in the senate. You could be the proverbial online emperor as you are the site's head. You could have senate elections, so on and so forth, etc. Another idea would be to grant(as any gracious roman emperor) the tournament's victor with a single prize of great value that the winner could be proud of, upon which he or she may act upon at any given time. A parliamentary priviledge such as allowing him or her the right to customize a new ToH symbol of their choosing. Just an idea though. I very strongly suggest the idea of a written constitution for all to see whom visit your site. It would be something to be very proud of and must be signed by the original delegates under their original emperor. I don't know if you have any Thomas Jefferson's available but it might be worth a try to hold a contest for best writer to all interested in improving ToH. As you can see, already, there's a great deal of people interested in change.

I'm no wallstreet advisor but if you look at the history of ubisoft and think about the Heroes5 projected outcome you can expect an even larger turnout for this next release. It's always a gamble but I feel strongly about this. I very much do not like Heroes4 but ubisoft has a proven record that is as reliable as the gold standard. My point is Heroes5 looks to do what most of the latest games of today are going to do. It looks to want to blend proven aspects of other games into its own to make this one a guaranteed winning sell over Heroes3. To me, that's something you might consider if at all doubtful for creating a true workforce of paid employees and devoted ToH fans.

Just something to think about.

hmm as for the volunteer part.
I have offered to help on numerous occaisions.
And I didn't have that "divisions" demand. There have also been others that have offered to help in the past.

So i think TeWil has a good point when he says too little to late.

But perhaps u can prove us wrong now..i surely hope u two can!@

I think you are acting childish here. You began to get bored by homm3 ( and that is normal for a 6 year game ) and therefore you try to blame someone for that.

Of course kitten has a lot of things to be blamed for, she is kinda lazy but the question is can the laziness of an administrator make you quit a game.

There are 3 more tournaments to choose from, and ww is pretty strong. Why don't u just play for other tournaments, competition will be stronger and i am sure there will be some changes in the toh management then.
