Did u try it on the zone?
And perhaps not the way i saw some "newcomers" did....
like "where are those chicken who r afraid to play against me the master?...i´m the best of the best and fuq u out of the game...."
If ur asking in normal style and tell them u r new, normaly they will ask u if u r registered on TOH (www.toheroes.com) or in tribes (www.wwheroes.com).
Then register fast and u won´t have a problem to get an opponent...for sure..

Ima looking for an apponent too!!!
Many places there were no apponent but now im still looking!!!!!!!
I was one place where no apponents!!!! 
But now im an apponent looking!!! so i can use my attack!!!
I have very super special attack coming up!! Its a super secret tactic, ima use plenty of the zombie
Becase ZOMBIE IS DA BOMB

im nearly positive , you are on a wrong server, remember irc got alot of server (dont know how familiar u are with mIRC).
go to ur option where u set nick and such, there u can see a box named "connect server", change server to one of the quakenet server and then join the channel #trucido, its pretty easy. Tell me if u got some problems with this.

okay let help u abit:
Step 1: mIRC option --> connect --> servers: then set irc network to quakenet, and choose a quakenet server right below, (for exsamble a swedish server or something, whats closest to you).
Step2: Connect to server (under same option)
Step3: join #trucido

As it has been said before, this probably isn't the best way to get a game. Go to zone and ask there. Works soooooo much better.
