Official europian language

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German which heavily lobbied to be the official languauge and was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would be known as "EuroEnglish."

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c" . . . Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favor of the "k." This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replased with the "f." This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mess of the silent "e's" in the language is disgraseful, and they should go away.

By the 4th yar, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and the "w" with "v."

During the fifz yar, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. After ze fifz yar, ve vil hav a realy sensibl vriten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evryvun vil find it easy tu understand each ozer.

ZE DREM VIL FINALI KUM TRU!

It's hard for me to believe it. Even if it's more practical, it looks ugly.

Well such language already exist. Its serbian/croatian.
They (we) have 30 latters and those 30 letters are always read in the same way, no complication, no duble letters, no mixing of letters just to get one sound ( like the english "the")......the only problem is that serbian/croatian is only used by serbians/croatians

Well we didi change our language pretty late, so we dropped
a good deal of the old traditional unpractical stuff.Too bad
we didn`t change grammar

Anyway the thing is that the Bosnians speak the same,
and soon when/if Montenegro becomes independant they will
speak Montenegran , which will of course be the same language. So we come to a very interesting conclusion
that most people from ex-YU territories will be defacto
polyglot speaking fluently Serbian ,Croatian ,Bosnian and Montenegran. That is without English whom everybody knows at least little bit....

Yeah, the Balkan circus in practice! There should be one name for these dialects of the same language - Yugoslavian. That way we'll keep the famous name forever. Sta kazete?
(Looks like my country's the only one "proudly" keeping the term, though "former yugoslav republic" doesn't seem that joyful )

Serbs and Croatians would hardly agree to speak a mixture. Our nations are not in best relationships. Often hatred seems to be more powerful than struggle for peace. In region of Vukovar, near the border they hard live together. Understandable, after a century of conflict.

What century of conflict are you talking about? It was more like a decade. We all lived in "brotherhood and unity" in the past second half of the XX century. The best times in the history of our countries.
And what do I hear about hostilities there? **** them! What matters is what you think. Should ex-Yugoslavia have a common name for the language (except Slovenia and Macedonia), or let this sharade continue with four different names of practically the same thing?

Serbs and Croatian are in conflict for a century. Yugoslavia was not appreciated in Croatia. Our people wanted liberty after 1300 years.
And these languages are not the same thing. They have always been different in many aspects of grammar and orthography.
