EmperorSly:
you talk as if the final game looking like a water color drawing was impossible in your opinion. it may be unlikely, but it is not impossible.

consis:
i'm sorry if you call this picture the best quality, and that the picture is a proof of high quality talent of the artist. i'm afraid that any critic would say it has too many repetitive elements, the house doesn't have enough integrity with what it stands on, and probably more. it's a nice amateurish picture, but i think that the artist that made the nature town picture is far more promising.

Know that as a fan you have the right to expect more from your game developers.
tell me, where can i find a legal document that confirms this right?

if you want to see what a 3d giant tree published by ubisoft (made by wolfpack) looks like, you may take a look at shadowbane screensots. there are giant trees of life where players respawn there. personally, i think that lineage2 screenshots look better, i have played neiter game though.

Oh comon, the scetch is JUST preliminary conceptart to give us a BASIC idea of what the town may be like. And here u go on giving your critics like this is what will be in the game. The conseptart is great, but i just wish the pic was a littler bigger so we could see it more clearly.

And the manorhouse pic is supposed to be better than the naturetown pic from UBI?? Give me a break! Its really boring and would only fit as a adventure object, if even that. And all respect to the dude who made it, but it looks kinda amateurish.

Don't Make Me Laugh

Here's some more real art for you people that still think watercolors are good.

Now compare this with that pokemon angel pic that was released. There is no competition. I think art like this speaks for itself.

Whatever...

I'm not surprised you refuse to admit I'm right about the terrible concept art for HeroesV. I knew you would say this. As childish as you are blind to the excellent work some artists create.

But to those people who were questioning whether they should simply sit by and let Ubisoft get away with that kind of art, I tell them to email ubisoft and tell them your favorite artist. Give them an example of the kind of art you would like to see in your Heroes games. We the fans pay the money for the game. Without us they don't get paid. What we say should be taken into account. Don't let ubisoft find some cheap anime artist to draw our Heroes game art!

Its only preliminary artwork made to give us an idea of what the game art will be like. I dont expect the artists from UBI to spend a lot of time to make perfect and detailed scetches for us. The last pic u showed us cant be compared to the PRELIMINARY SCETCHES from UBI, because your pic is the finished product, ready to hang on a wall or whatever and the others from UBI are scetches!!
I agree that anime isn't the way to go for a homm game, but the preliminary artwork(read angel) we have seen isn't that much anime, so i can live with it. I my self dislike anime and if the artwork we have seen so far was anime i am pretty sure i would hate it all. But as the matter of fact i like all the artwork we have seen so far, and hope that we will se something similar in the game. I really liked the nature town scetch and i expect that the town will be somewhat similar in the real game, only much more detailed and pretty. This goes for all the artwork also, i expect it to be similar in the game but with more work put to it, since it will be the finished product.

Great idea. How about we go a step further and get concept art like this:

And you actually believe that you will find an artist who'll do this kind of art on a concept art budget? And what about the time? Watercolour has been used as a tool for sketches ever since it was invented. In fact, this is why it was invented to begin with. You can't just use this limited logic of "my picture looks better than your's, so that's the one they should make." Concept art is meant to be quick and easy to re-draw and modify.

As for the art released by Ubi, I think it's great. I actually strongly dislike anime, but this looks nothing like it. It's just a decent watercolour sketch that serves it's purpose perfectly.

All Right Then...

Let's all patiently wait for the game release then. I shall wait patiently and we shall see what the "finished product" turns out to be. If I am proven wrong then I am not too proud to apologize for my sharp tongue. Let's hope I'm wrong and the "finished product" is as beautiful and detailed as you all seem to be so optimistic about. My only hope is that it won't turn itself into Pokemon of Might & Magic V. What a dreadful thought.

i wouldn't like none of the pictures posted by consis as homm concept art. and i don't like the pictures by ubisoft either, although i think that the skills of the ubisoft artist are unquestionable. imho this extent of anime attitude is just not suitable for homm.

and imho neither watercolors nor the level of detail are guilty here. imho it's the vision of the game graphics style that the developers have that makes the pictures unappealing. you surely can draw smurfs in oils, soils, etc, or with just a ball point pen, and with whatever level of detail you want.
========

whatever the pictures consis gave as an example, i think he is completely right in the above post. and i don't think consis will be proven wrong when the game is released.

all we can do is wait until the final product is released, because when we whine, fabrice tells us that the salesmen won't expect the game to be sucessful if they don't use the anime style. and if the salesmen are skeptical, they won't give any money to finance the development, etc.

so is it us that are the customers who pay or is it the salesmen? from the point of view of fabrice, i mean.

and there is also such thing like game developer satisfaction, what if fabrice finds satisfaction of creating smurf games?

we don't really know what fabrice's contract is about, do we? maybe he is totally uninterested in how sucessful the game will be. maybe the only thing that matters to him is how he can make the salesman have higher expectations from the game?

so, if we are talking about what is childish and what is not, imho saying that we, as customers have the right to demand something, is childish. i mean, before we really know that we are in position to demand anything.

and demanding that the concept art that the generously release should be higher quality.. what the hell. what if they gave us some pencil drawings made in 2 minutes?

i guess we might hope to be a source of some minor inspiration at best. even the most talented teams might sometimes find it helpful to get some fresh ideas from outside.

Well it seems to have the shape of a bird. In the RT forums people are discussing if is a pheonix or a pile of rocks etc. I think it is an earthworm!

a bird shape could be guessed even from the initial picture, it wasn't that clear, though.

i think it's a red peacock, maybe it's a prerequisite for phoenix or maybe it acn be upgraded into phoenix.

recalling that the tree is probably not a normal tree but the tree that stretches all over the skyglobe or something like that.. maybe the bird isn't too small for a phoenix at all.

I think there's no way a creature dwelling could be that small... probably a statue as was said or a fountain or some other special Nature building.
