*** Laelth's New Map: Iron Man ***

Inspired by both law school and Black Sabbath (could there be a connection?), I am proud to announce my newest map, Iron Man.  It is currently being reviewed by the ToH Maps Council and should be posted soon.  Here's a look at the mini-map:

Iron Man is available for immediate download at Laelths HOMMaps.  This is from the readme file:

Quote:
"Iron Man" is a moderate-length, closed map that's been optimized for balanced tournament play.  Creature growth and hero advancement are accelerated.  Players are separated by a strong garrison in the northwest corner of the map, but a shortcut opens in the sixth week that may allow players who run the map quickly to launch a sneak attack.  Players begin with one hero, and another is nearby in a prison (guarded by gold golems).  There are also 2 imprisoned heroes on each side with GM Nobility to accelerate creature growth.  There are 2 towns on each side of the map that are linked to the players' native alignment.  The third town on each side is linked to the player's opponent.  This insures maximum balance.  Might starts with an extra altar linked to the third town on that player's side of the map to insure the might player has some access to magic.  Life players begin with a flagged lvl. 2 dwelling (because extra troops are needed early in the game, and it's likely one or more of a Life player's lvl. 1 dwellings will be hovels).  Order begins with an extra altar of scouting.  Other alignments get no bonuses.

Quests:  At "Iron Man Station 1" players can purchase leather armor.  At "Iron Man Station 2" players can trade leather armor and 1,000 gold for elven chain mail.  At "Iron Man Station 3" players can trade elven chain mail and 2,000 gold for golden plate mail.  At "Iron Man Station 4" players can trade golden plate mail and 4,000 gold for gryphonheart's plate mail, but beware.  The fourth station is well-guarded.

Enjoy!

Edit: Fixed some typos.

"Iron Man" Demo #1

Notice this area of the map.  It's very close to your home town, but guarded by a strong lvl. 4 stack.  Once you've cleared out your side, this area will be good for an extra 3 levels of experience (or more).  Even if you haven't cleared out your side when your opponent arrives, the handy one-way portals scattered across the map make it easy for you to get home.  You'll have some time to clear this area before your opponent arrives.

Also note the cool artifacts.  In this game, the green player's opponent was Death.  As such, the life shield and armor of life became available in this area, and when the green player clears this area and equips the artifacts, two heroes and all friendly creatures will be protected by death ward.

Keep on the lookout for more illustrations!

lol.  good point, valky.  to be more precise: yes, the armor grants death ward to the hero.  the shield grants death ward to all friendly creatures.

thanks for the correction.

Iron Man Demo #2

Adjacent to your staring town are 6 prisons guarded by a weak stack of gold golems.  You can see all 6 briefly just as the game is cranking up, before your first turn.

However, bombs delete 5 of the prisons, leaving you with a single prison containing a hero of your home alignment (always a magic-using hero, unless you're playing might).  Might players get an extra altar of magic that's linked to their opponent's alignment.

Here's Iron Man Station 1 where you can buy as many sets of leather armor as you'd like.  At Iron Man Station 2 you can trade leather armor and 1,000 gold for elven chain mail.  At Iron Man Station 3 you can trade elven chain mail and 2,000 gold for golden plate mail.  At Iron Man Station 4 you can trade golden plate mail and 4,000 gold for gryphonheart's plate mail.

This map produces lots of creatures, but your heroes should be well-armored and more resistant to attack.

+30 defense?  That ought to help.

These cloud castles and mage's towers are not accessible.  They're just for decoration.

Keep on the lookout for more illustrations!

Whoops!

T.T discovered a bug in Iron Man.  The bug has been repaired in version 1.1, available now at Laelths HOMMaps.  Hope no one else is inconvenienced by this little glitch.  Immediate download, however, is strongly recommended.
