I had two maps of Middle Earth from astral wizards place. One was okay, and the other was a decent multi-player. I haven't seen a really good "Myth and Legend" type one yet.

Did you read my posts at "Should titans be most..." thread but sure you're nothing but Tolkien hater.
Basically I would in a way Tolkien made you as you are.
Because without tolkien there wouldn't be fantasy as it is now.
BTW there are at least two people doing middle-earth map. One was in the board in the other day (look old posts) and you will find about the other as well from the post I made to that thread.

Sha you can't immagen how much fantasy i got up in my head.. I don't need a grandpa... I make up my own creatures.. ANd i changed the old ones in the way i like!
PS you guys made me hate him too! Because you keep on saying that there woulden't be fantasy without tolkien That's bulsnow and noone is gonna change that!

That's ok...
I like fantasy but I'm more towards to human related fantasy.
I understand that you like fantastic creatures and how cool they are. But even you and especially you should understand the meaning of "grandpa", that's btw the best way to call him.
And keep on doing what you like with your imagination. There must be much worst things to do with imagination than come up with fantasy creatures.
I really like some of your ideas truly but I think you attack too harsly towards tolkien and human based fantasy. Also you attack any changes to mythologic creatures but in fact you're doing the same thing.
You don't have to love ideas of others about creatures but direct attack having without really point ends up to being only insult and not any think that construct something new. And that's what we are doing here.
Taking the old, chewing it and then spitting it out as new thing.

Well, at the very least there would be no Heroes of Might and Magic today if it weren't for Tolkein. D & D is a major rip of Tolkeins work. Almost all the creatures in it are based on Tolkein, even if the names are changed. Where do you think they got the idea for human-sized elves, halflings, magic rings (there are few magic rings in mythology), and so on? Might and Magic is a rip-off of D & D. (come on, think about it. Doesn't mean it isn't good). Heroes wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Might and Magic. See? Tolkein influenced Heroes.
Before Tolkein all fantasy novels where either in greek or started with "once upon a time..."
You may not like him, but he did all this.
And why are you calling him Grandpa? He wrote most of his work in his 30's. Are you calling him Grandpa because he got old? You will too one day!!!
And it shows a incredible amount of ignorance to hate something you know nothing about. Example: What are the names of the three Lord of the Rings books? Bet you can't answer it.

I don't care for his books..
Hobbit is one of them...
But i tought Dungeon and dragons was a cool game.. I don't thinking of trying it ones when hearing that all the creatures are from tolkien.. I don't want to play a game with only orc,Elf,Balrog,Hobbit,human,treant,Ent,Druid,Widow,ogre and some more in it... NO! All my favorite creatures are not ment by tolkien...
Unicorns,Banshee,Sphinx,Chimera,Succubus,Incubus,Black Dragon(with 2 heads),Black Angel,Medusa,Scylla,Lich King,Queen of death,Mantis Dragon,Fairy dragon,Dryad,Scorpion king,Spider Queen and MANY more... They Aren't from tolkien. and if tolkien wasn't there maybe this cool creatures could find a way into the game instead of humans,Elves,Dwarves,Orcs,ogres and other green and boring creatures....

You don't understand.
Sure there is a chance that those creatures would end up being into books and games.
BUT
The Fantasy wouldn't be so popular as it is now. Tolkien made it popular and D&D continued this (I btw hate D&D). This way we have this genre anyway.
I think it's amazing one person came up with these ideas when leaving so many years earlier than us now. It's different now when everything is known, Tolkien made them known.
I think he should be called grandpa because he was truly grandfather of this whole genre.
If you can't get it, you won't...
So end of story.

Imagine a villain and a quest before Tolkein...
Once upon a time there was an evil witch/old man/monster who captured a princess/village/child, and would have ruined that land's day if not for the hero who ventures forth and slays.
Stories were more simplistic and didn't envision a totally different world, the stories were all based on earth. Tolkein took things from earth past and hostory and created his own world. That was new and original. I don't give him credit for all fantasy, there was Jules Verne, Doyle, etc before him, but their fantasy was more limited. Also Tolkein didn't actually create many things that populated his world, but the world he did create.
So anything you are saying about making up your own thing is descended directly from tolkein, or if not even, you can't ever escape that he was there first so gets some credit. Why hate that? You aren't the first idiot in the world, do you want to be?
