HoMM and the creature graphics...

Hi.

As I have played all of the four games, I have noticed that, in my opinion, the monster graphics got worse with each new title of the game. (Well, HoMM3 still lokks good, but 2 looks better^^)
In HoMM IV the graphics really are lacking, imo. I would like it, if you would "go back" to HoMM2 - do the graphics more in that style. A good example for "worsing" a creature graphic is the minotaur; in HoMM2 He was that, what a Minotaur must be: half man with a Bull's-Head and a nice, large axe in his hands. In Homm3 he strated to morph into a 2legged Bull (but he at least did still have an armor), which he finally became in HoMM4 - nothing more of the half-man in the Minotaur. Also the Dragons look best in the 2nd part of the game (especally the bonedragon) They were more grim
Well, I could go on with those listings but that would be too much text for u to read SO just my wish:

make better graphics than in HoMM4...Please!!

regards
Daddy

Well the grafic at all isn't that bad in H4 I was jut talking about the creatures and, well actually the complete design. Heroes, Castles, Creatures, Landscape... everything is better in h3 and H2 imo. H4 is nice with that bit more of 3D^^ but the rest sux ...

I can never understand, what do people find in the older series graphics. In my opinion, the H4 graphics were good enough on the adventure map, but they could have done some better work with the towns. In H3 every town had it's own unique inside graphics, like dungeon, or snowy mountains.

Well, it seems that the title is not presize enaugh
I was talking about the style, not the grafic itself.
H4 Grafics are good, no question, but th style is not. SOme of the creatures/buildings/other things just look crappy (imo). Not cuz of grafics but cuz of style. Compare a H2 Bonedragon to a H4 Bonedragon, the one in H4 might have nice 3D grafics but the H2 one looks so much more evil, fierce, grim, whatever. U know, what I mean?

Absolutely.
Its not only the bone dragons its the other dragons too. And other monsters too. Even in H3 the bone dragon looks weird (not scary).

yeah, that's it. The skels, too don't look evil enaugh any more. most of the "evil units" lost their scary and evil look.
And the moni is just a cow on two legs A minotaur is a human with a Bull's head - that means, he has human legs, that was wrogn in H3 allready wehere he had Bull's legs...
And .. I dont know, isn't a Hydra supposed to have no legs?

Oh so you mean the design not the graphics?

yeah i remember the older games and how cool some of the creatures actually were designed to look - even though the graphics didn't do them any justice - and as the 'world' of graphics has significantly gotten better - the creature designs have significantly got worse. However some creatures have been designed better - and example is the thunderbird. I cant remember homm 2 but in homm 3 it was just like and ordinary large bird of prey. However in homm4 it looks cool

Also i think that homm shouldnt have to use the real designs of these fantasy creatures - which a lot of people obviously do if you look around these forums. As you mentioned Daddy you talked about the Minotaur - that it has morphed away from what 'history' say it should look like. However why does it have too like like it? Sure it uses the name - so when you see it you think of the 'real' myth creature, but thats something ive noticed homm series doing - they designing new creatures to mix it up. Some may disagree that it looks worse - but im sure some dont, including the people who designed it.

Just a thought.

It wasn't Rock but a Roc by the way

Well actually almost every creature gfx style from Heroes certainly has its own advantages and disadvantages and it's the only matter of taste, which one you really like. I loved most creatures from HoMM 2, yet some of them weren't perfect (e.g. halflings, archers or orcs). HoMM 3 also possessed some pretty nice designs, but certainly not ALL of them were equally good. And the issue comenced in HoMM 4 - some creatures looks impressive, the other don't. I'd be very careful generalising that H2 had better gfx design than H4 or whatever. I think each part of the series had its own style and that should be prevailed in HoMM 5, which, as we all doubtlessly know, will be great .

All the best

Well, as I know there is immense amount of threads in which we discuss the graphics and the appearance of creatures in the game whether we like them or not.

However, we are already informed that Ubi is going to stick with the 3D graphics which means they're going to be new (and maybe fascinating), so we don't need to mind about the looks of creatures.

Also, the creature appearance may not be changed since Ubi said they're going to use some ideas from the older series. So cheer up, because they may choose what looks the best for us.

The discussion about the older versions' graphics are always the same, but always have different answers. Some of us like H2, some H3 and H4 graphics. Each person understands it different.

IMO, "lacking" graphics in H4 aren't so bad and the game is not a crap. They just somehow differ from the older ones (they were TOTALLY 2D, Duh!) so we may not like them. Creatures look normal and some of them look the best.

H3 graphics are also very good, but the game was created back in the 1999, so we need something new. Creatures looked fascinating, but there was still some misunderstanding with certain creatures.

H2 graphics were good enough for the year of 1997-1998, but I disagree that it would be good to have them in H5. Most of the creatures looked silly and I didn't like them (if comparing to H3).

Though, these are just our opinions, so we remain calm in our seats, because we know this won't lead anywhere.

It will remain just another discussion about the Homm series' graphics.

P.S. don't mind my grammar mistakes

I mostly agree, but NOT in case of dragons. The H4 one is total badass. The one from H1 is a violet pumpkin with bat wings. And the ones from h2 and h3 are simply not dragonish, and not terryfying at all.
