What the hell is it with terrosrism and 9/11 and all?

Whenever I go on the net all I see is terrorism and Bin Laden and Irak and all that. HC abounds with threads about terrorism and so on, and aperantly that's all the world is talking about. What is wrong with you people? Looking back in history, the casualties of the terrorist attacks and those of the war put together don't sum up to other disasters/ Think about this: in the time of the plague, Europe's population was X times smaller then it is now( and X is a large figure); the plague whiped out one third of Europe's population, and still it was no stop to civilisation. Napolen's army alone lost in a few months more than 400000 men. In the battle of the Catalunian fields half a million died, and that was in the fourth century, when half of million could represent an entire nation. And now? A few thousand dead in a lot of sepparate incidents, a few explosions, a great piece of architecture destroyed and oh no, it's the end of the world. It's quite sinmple. Now we don't have empires apperaring and falling every day, and the nations of the world fighting bloody battles for a strip of land (and there were casualties). Now we have a handfull of fanatics killing a few people in some corner of the world, and we think it's the biggest tragedy. Wake up! If the entire population of Afghanistan was eradicated, if NY was wiped out in one day, what would it matter? Just another disaster in the long line of genocides in history. In 300 years you wouldn't even remember them. There's no point in complaining. If I was to choose between 5 centuryes of fighting the Ottoman empire for my country's independence and 20 hijacked planes crusing into my neighbourhood, I'd choose the second anytime. At least the deathtoll would be smaller....

And there goes another one of them.

You don't have a sense for historical time. To you, Egypt was closer to Rome, than Hitler to Napoleon. Time is relative, but somehow it "denses" as history makes progress. Dramatic events happen at a rate uncomparably higher than that of few canturies ago.
And you seem to underestimate the influence that terrorism, USA, "wars against terrorism" etc. have in an era of world globalization. 9/11 was just an event that will be a symbol of this short, but turbulent time so sull of dramatic and influencing events. Not that 9/11 by itself is such a dramatic disaster, but when attached to the global model of history it is a landmark. It's so common for witnesses of history not to be aware what they're experiencing at the time when it happens.

Some strange philosophy you Romanians have.

Well, so many more things have happened in only 200 years of America's existance as a country, that it's hardly comparable to 5 centuries of Ottoman rule. They would seem like an awfully dull time of peace and harmony.

But, I agree, my friend, that there are so many important and existing problems to be adressed and nobody even mentions them.
Maybe it's because the majority of members of this forum are Americans and it's a commonly known fact that they are preoccupated with nothing but themselves.

You know that's wrong, right?  There are more Europeans than Americans, at least that post regularly.  There's definitly more Europeans in the Other Side of the Monitor than Americans.
But how would I notice that?  I'm too pre-ocupied with myself, right Svarog?

Right.

I mean really. You name them and you'll see this place's full of Yanks. Anyway, even Europeans have no other problems, so again they too don't address so many other important issues.

Alert: I'm intending to make a joke in the following lines, so all objects of the same are asked politely not to react aggressively or inappropraite to it.

Britain is more American than European, so he doesn't count.

Well, I think americans tend to exagerate everything related to them so, from an american's point of view yes, it is the end of the world.

I didn't mean that literaly. I am aware of the domination of the Ottoman empire in Europe as well as the other historycal examples I gave. I was simply tring to make a point, don't take the names and events which I pointed literally, they were just the first to come in mind.

I find it that it's quite easy for everybody to attack my arguments as soon as I start a thread wit an 'unpopular' theme. I know my history, and the thread started as it did simply because I gave those examples so as not to have a 3 page post.

So I retract all my arguments. I know no history and do not understand the imnportance of terrorist attacks. I'm just trieing to start a thread to get attention because of my 'radical' ideeas. Terrorism is the worst thing in history, God bless the USA and all americans, kill all the middle east and there. I said it. Peace.

Nobody said you know this or you don't know that. "Radical" ideas can have as much validity as mainstream ones, but only if the person who promotes them gives them enough attention and defends them with reasonable arguments. This attitude of yours however is nothing like that, and instead you try and say what you think, agree or disagree, you get pissed off and resign just because some people show their disagreement with what you post.
Having said that, I still don't think your ideas are any radical. You just use too harsh words to explain them. And then give up trying to stay cool like: "OK, I'm too radical for your conformist brains to comprehend. snow you and good night."

Do you know history? I hate brainwash. Anyone who, erm, back to the topic. I, as well, studied history and everyone evil is a terrorist. Mussolini, Hitler, Bin Laden, Hussein, yep, all terrorists in their own right.

Well actually it's a touchy matter. According to what you said, Napoleon too(for example) was a terrorist, because he was an evil man, from the russians foint of view anyway.

The notion of evil is very hard to define, you have to be more carefull with words.
