Poll Question:
Unix
Haven't seen any discussions like this ever since Lith left us, so I'll start one. Are you a slave to the Micro$oft monopoly or are you a proud *nix user?
I myself just installed FreeBSD on an old P2 laptop and am loving it to the last drop. I also have access to my university's Linux server from home, and I write shell scripts on it 24/7 nowdays (I should be studying instead, but meh).

Well, well, typical programmer type. Thinks in binary -- Windows or Unix.
Where's the Mac OS option? I can't answer this poll without that.

Mac OS is a Unix. An evil, almost as bad as Windows, beautified and dumbed down Unix.

Well, you have to grant microsoft the following:
They made a product which is easy to use and covers up it's flaws good enough that the entire population, except for a bunch of critical geeks with nothing better to do, uses it.

anyway, on topic now...
GNU/Linux is a *nix
FreeBSD is a *nix
MacOS X is a *nix
the same goes for a few more OSs (including Unix, obviously)
on the flipside..
Win3.1/9x/Me is not an OS
(M$)DOS/WinNT/2k/XP is an OS (the quality or lack of is not the point here)
the surprise here is Windows waited-too-Longhorn ...that will more or less, be a *nix
in conclusion:
- is this poll lacking options? certainly
- can we live without them? no doubt
- do i have something better to do right now? not sure, i just came here to remember my icq# anyway... and see a few old friends
