ill give you the cables are longer on the X-Box then the PS2 and I think (not sure) but its easy to extend a cable on X-Box.
my ps2 sits 2 close to my big screen and so i need to sit to close because of it.
No not yet its dead close etween GC and XBOX. And your right about the dog thing, but it seems to me like tripping over it is kinda impossible, it so damn big, i think its more likely ur gonna fall in the cables and smash ur head into ur newly bought flatscreen TV!!!!!

I played THPS3 on Gamecube.
I played PES2 and Halflife on PS2.
Gamecube has way better controlers. I vote GC.

Agreed. I thought the N64 controller was just fantastic, and Nintendo improved on GC's, which is the best controller I've ever used.

so, cartoons are cool!
X-box is geared too much towards serious gamers to gain true popularity. I made a prediction for the future...
Nintendo is dying. It's sad, it's a pity, but it's true. Unless this new Zelda game for GC is a smash hit, Nintendo will rather become a third-party game manufacturer. However, WHO THEY GIVE THEIR GAMES TO is critical. They have a huge target audience with their Mario, Zelda, and (for the younger group) Pokemon games. If they only make their games for Sony and the Playstations, it's over for Microsoft. The Xbox has no way to compete with a Nintendo-Sony alliance. If Nintendo opens their games up to both Sony and Microsoft, then it's coming close, however, Sony is already marketing to the younger audience, to some extent, and will still beat out Microsoft with all the young gamers in the end. And there's no way Nintendo would give their games only to Microsoft.

Ever played Resident Evil, Resident Evil Zero, Eternal Darkness or Star Wars Rogue Squadron? They don't look like cartoons to me.
Some of the cartoon games are good, despite the negative connotation you give it. Ever played Super Smash Bros. Melee? Not only is it the best 4 player game I've ever played, but it's the best game on GC I've ever played.

Seriously, c'mon! You all sound like you're not real gamers. Too much Heroes, I guess... *Just kidding*
#1 - The PS2 has long had a better library of selection than every other system due to it's backwards compatibility and because of their 3rd party Japanese Developpers...not to mention DanceDance Revolution!  The Gamecube has always had very good games as well, but just not as many as the PS2. Lately though, the Xbox has caught up to the Gamecube and is starting to port many PS2 goodies over, as well.
#2 - The Xbox controllers are not too big anymore! Anyone heard of the Controller S?! Hello...!
#3 - The Xbox has party games too. Fusion Frenzy has lots of mini-games, but Halo 1 & 2 are super fun when drinking with buddies, in my experience! 
#4 - Nintendo is not dying. They are coming out with a next generation console some time next year around the same time as the PS3! It is code-named: "Revolution". So, don't expect them to go the way of Sega anytime soon...if ever!
#5 - Everyone seems to forget that the Gamecube is also compatible with the GameBoy Advance and Nintendo DS. Although it hasn't been developped very much, there is still lots of time & room for ingeniouty.
#6 - You can play online with an Xbox for free, using services like GameSpy.
On another note: I just got my Xbox modded tonight & installed a 160 GB HDD. The guy who did it told me a few things that I would like to pass onto the rest of you. You can run Linux on a modded Xbox, if you want. You can "rip" CDs (in MP3 format), DVDs, and even games onto the HDD with a modded Xbox. Or you can simply play them, without a special remote.

I dont think you can use a DS on it  cause my sis got a DS for christmas but it doesnt have the same ports. you also cant (as far as i know) link a GBA to a DS

Yea i have indeed tried alot of the games you mention and the only 1 that wouldnt categorize as a cartoon game for me is Rogue Squadron. I never really liked the Resident Evil series and i havent tried Eternal Darkness yet. You are right about the mario series they can be fun at some times but still the GC seems to much of a cartoon console for me.

Ok. This is the easiest question.
Simple Answer: XBOX.
Convincing Answer: XBOX. The only reason anyone would like anything else would be because they only ever have owned that system and have grown to be attatched fanboys that cannot accept that anything could be better than their beloved system.
I have a PS2, all Nintendo's except for GC (shudder), and an XBOX, and PSP (which isn't a console, but lets not go there )
XBOX has 4 controllers, the hard drive and everything you said, and it's not even an argument on which is technologically better. It's straight facts that XBOX has better technology, better graphics (it's a fact) not being the least. So mainly the fight is about which games are better, and the controller maybe.
The controller is really a matter of opinion. I find the PS2 controller to light and button-bashy. XBOX (The original one, not the new small crappy ones) controllers are comfy, and the buttons are less prone to button smashing. The joy sticks are easier to use and the difference in colours makes easier for finding the button. The black/white system is better than the useless R1/R2/L1/L2 system which is very confusing in the heat of battle when you can't even see that side of the controller.
And the games. Well, it depends completely on your maturity level. If you like kiddy games like Donkey Kong and Mario and Pikmin  and like Kindergarten Xtreme! (nothing against Donkey Kong and Mario, the best games of their time) then by all means go ahead and play GC.
XBOX has Halo 2, and PS2 has GTA:SA.
Halo 2 sold a lot more copies in the first day than GTA:SA did in over a week.
Also XBOX has an infitely better online system, due to the headset and better organization, and more online games like Halo 2, Counter Strike, future Half Life 2, Doom 3. Anyone who complains about the pricing of XBOX Live is just being stingy, as you start off with at least 14 months free and it's not that expensive anyway.
That brings me to the insignificant to some and the matter of buy or don't buy to others. Pricing. That's apparently the main reason XBOX didn't take off in japan, as it's more expenive and bigger than the PS2. That's a major factor to some people who don't have that much money, or just aren't willing to spend that much on entertainment. This is the only, ONLY area I know that PS2 beats the XBOX. But I don't care, because I would prefer to pay more for something better quality.
The XBOX2 is planning on making itself cheaper and fixing these problems, but thats a whole new argument.

I modded my xbox LEGALLY with a HD Loader with 120GB which allows me to play ROMS from earlier systems and load games onto my XBOX to play without the CD.

But what games can actually play with 8 players? Not many.
XBOX has things which can allow more controllers, but most offline games only have 4 player. Online, theres up to 16 I think.

Behold...the Xbox 360!
I'm going to get one with a HDD, but maybe only once the price drops.
That will probably happen around the same time as the PS3 comes out 6 months after the Xbox 360 debuts to the world under the Circle of Light.

Sorry Leo, I doubt the credibility of that website.
I also heard about the next XBOX being called the Xenon.
There is a console forum at Gamespot about the Xenon, here, and it shows heaps of info on it.
