Grand Elves
Grand Elves are weak on Defense and Health, but like Gelu's Sharpshooters, are necessary for the core of your Rampart fighting army. Their 2-shot attack can be devastating, especially if you have a lot of them and if the enemy is close enough. If you find that the elves are getting beaten up too much, you could try some strats to help save them. You might've tried these already, but I'll just restate some of them:
1. Keep your Elves on the upper or bottom corner of your army to cut off the number of directions enemies might attack from. Also makes it easier for Dwarves and Dendroids to guard.
2. If you have 100 or more Grand Elves and you're tired of them getting "tied up" and unable to shoot, you could try to split them into two groups (50/50 or so) and keep them in both corners. This way, it'll be a lot harder for the enemy to quickly end your arrow threat.
3. This isn't so much a strategy as it is an encouragement to end siege combat as quickly as you can. The enemy castle towers will inflict significant damage on your Elves or other fragile creatures given many combat rounds, so try to kill all the defenders so that the next round of tower attacks won't continue to pick at you. If you have Ballistics, always try to open the front gate first, then aim for one of the towers.
4. If you have the Force Field spell, you can try to cast it right in front of your Elves during combat; for its duration, your enemies will have to maneuver around the field to get to their target. This might help prevent the "tie-ups".
5. If you can help it, don't cast a spell during the first round of combat until the enemy has. They often choose to Blind your horde of Elves and that's junk if you already casted that round. Keep the Cure or Dispel Magic spells handy in this case.
6. Lastly, try your best to get Earth Magic. It will go a long way to boost your defense spells as well as your other powers.
