Connection to recent Grammys winner

Many of you are well aware that this was the first time a Grammy Award was set aside for the Hawaiian music category. The award went to the slack key album "Slack Key Guitar Vol. 2", a collection of music from various talented artists. That's a pretty cool story since I'm a Hawaii resident, but it goes on.

My classical guitar prof at the University of Hawaii was one of the contributing artists on that album! He told my class about a week ago that he was attending the ceremony because of his contribution to the nominated Hawaiian album. The CD was up against a whole bunch of other hardcore Hawaiian musicians who actually had a better chance of winning. We were all very happy for him then, but imagine how much more delighted we are now! I was super shocked when I found out his collaboration team won. I saw him in the local papers standing alongside other artists who were also on the album. It was the coolest thing, I swear. I'd seen the CD at a music store the past week, but I held back from buying it. So I was excitedly driven to go out and buy it today. My guitar class is on Tuesdays and Thursdays; if he's back, I'm going to congradulate my prof and ask him to sign my CD.

It is so cool, I just had to share about it!

Has Alanis Morrissette (sp) ever won a grammy? If so, I have a connection.

Her dad was principal of my school when I was in kindergarten 4. Or, so I'm told. I don't remember first hand, and it was before she was famous, or even grown up, for that matter.

Allllllright........

It's so cool to know (previously or otherwise) these rich/famous people! I got my teacher to autograph my CD the other day; I'm going to ask him for some pointers about getting started in the business. If he can get me started on the right path, that would be awesome.

I just came back from seeing Hoobastank perform acoustically at a local bookstore. They were pretty good, but they only had time to play five songs (good selections, by the way). The catch was that they announced the band would only autograph their latest (3rd) album, and not their first or second. That was pretty dumb to me, since their second album contained their biggest hit. And to a lesser extent, I didn't get their third album yet. Oh well, at least I got to see them.
