LEAVING THE GAME

I think that is unfair whats going on with the rules in Heroes3.I played against A_N_D_R_O_I_D16 and we made these rules:No 4th level or log as main.If leaving the game or disconnect then u lost and he said to me ok but same for you.And then he left the game(maybe of mistakes during the game)and when he returned  i asked him and he said that a lighting bolt crashed into his house and the pc turned off and i said ok u disconnected so u have lost the game and then he said to me : snow OFF I AINT REPORT THE WIN U LOSER.And i said but u left the game so u lost ok then come in we launch again but then he disconnected the zone and i asked vesuvius what to do now and he said the hc cant make anything against self maded rules so i thought i send him an email when to finish the game and i sent the email 1 week ago and he didnt answer...
IS THERE NO RULE AGAINST QUITTING THE GAME??? AND WHAT ABOUT DONT ANSWER TO EMAILS??? CANT THE HC MAKE ANYTHING AGAINST THIS KIND OF "CHEATING"???

Rules?

Well thats the problem with rules you set up before playing.
Many times people THINK they understood what their opponent agreed to before the game but find out later it was totally different. I have heard a thousand (approximately) different definitions for "Hit & Run" for example. Not many people agree on EXACTLY what that means.

As for your rule "If you disconnect, you lose", That may be the most insane rule I have ever heard!!! That would give a cable modem guy a superior advantage even if he couldnt play the game! Just because he can stay connected!? You should always wait for a period of time to see if your opponent comes back and if he did get hit by lightning (could be) then load up the last save and continue.

I doubt that ToH would even allow games to be played with that rule.

Melvin

Hi melvin, I remeber trying to play you it was the hardest thing I had ever tried.  You were impossible to start a game with you wanted a million rules and kept going to bathroom when we try to play, you wasted me a lot of time.  But what kind of rule is if you get booted you gotta report loss, if he said lightning was around then thats resonable.  He probably just agreed to it because you did the same thing to him as you did to me, well anyways its not good to post names about HC personal problems here.

loose

I think such a rule is meaningless. If a person loose connection, but comes back almost at once, how could this be a way to loose? If people used more time on playing instead of making silly rules, the game would increase it`s value!

Leaving the game

You dont understand what i mean: He said there was a storm around but why did he get back in 3 minutes??? If there would really a lightning crashed into his house then his comp is broken or they have nor electricity for some minutes but i said to him ok we launch again and he gave no reason and went offline in the zone... So i sent him an email and got an answer yesterday and we will play soon.
But what i really mean there are lots of players which disconnect the zone and then open heroes to look at the savegame... thats what i mean is unfair

Understand this: I understand Darkmelvin mistrust in that case. I mean, if a lightning stroke down my house i would not get back 3 minutes later... Once and for all we must understand that many players do use this tactic... i mean i guess it wont take more than 3 minutes to check the savegame....

When this is said, i want to tell a story about a happening long time ago:

I host up with a TOH player. We agreed on map and rules and i started as red. The situation here is that on this map there is a lots of golems to fight before you enter into the game for real through lots of teleports. I remember the map as Deception of God (DoG). I started with 20 diamond golems and entered my first battle... then everything went wrong... i was totally massacred by thoose golems (dunno why) but i managed to win the war just in time but i had no golems left. In that second i finished the war my connection disconnected ((
i rebooted computer but first after 25 minutes i could reconnect to zone.
i had 2 choices now: go back to zone and tell my opponent about the exact situation or just tell a lie.
You see no savegames was made because i had day 1 first.
i told my opponent the truth... how i almost lost the war, my disconnection and my bad connection appearing

then he went totally madman.... Freak totally out and saying that i did on purpose that disconnections and he wanted to laucnh that game again and then we must edit in my losses in game. I told him serious and honestly that my connection was totally almost down. He didnt give a damn and for about 1 hour and 45 min. we fight bad mouth about this. the game has never been finished.... (like i would ever think of doin it with a player possessing that kind of insanity).

all for now... Remember its just a game....

Yes DarkMelvin it's a conspiracy I'm telling ya, yes there is! Everybody is just "ALT-F4" out of games just to mischieviously take sneak peaks at opponent's moves. Oooh, scary! And you can't do diddly-squat about it too! Bwahahahah (psycho laugh reverberating stereo in the background)!!!

Hi melvin

well, first of all, I have to say that you shouldn't mention names here (although I can understand your suspicion).

stroke by lightning and returning in 3 minutes, really doesn't sound too realistic insulting you and vanishing again even confirms this impression. if I should get into this situation, I would forget about the game and not play against this person again.

Best advice I can give you here is "Take it easy!"
I played approx. 30 games for toh (not much, I know ) and I can say that most of my opponents have been enjoyable, regardless if they won or lost. there's no need to waste time with "dishonorable" players (no judgement implied).

it's quite funny to see some things happening... lately, someone "left the game", I zmed him and asked what happened and he told me "dont know.. homm just vanished"... well, I said (using a smily), maybe you right-clicked at the wrong place... he smiled back and said "but you dont consider it as cheating, do you?". LOL .   there's another player, we're having a savegame since 3 weeks or so... I'm doing well I guess (haven't looked at the savegame, but I think I got an advantage)... now everytime I'm on the zone and this player enters the game room, some seconds later he exits (not sure if it's bc of me). must have happened 10 times by now. well, I take it easy and smile about it. <-----

Okay, long message, short resumee: Take it easy!

Last season I played only 20 trough the whole season. The great internet connection wich is offered by Polish Telecom + modem didn't allow to play a game to the end without a "break". I feel stupid and ashamed to explain ppl why did I leave, why did it take so long to reconnect, that I didn't look at saves etc.

I think Melvin U just have to play YOUR games with honour. That is more importent then getting mad about other players honour level.

Ok melvin, When android tells you that his house was struck by lightining then it means that he lost power.  Therefore  his comp shuts down for a second then comes back...I think you are Overexerting this situation. Just ask him to play the saves from when he left and he should do it.

Yes, that "YoudropIwin" rule is crazy. I have the same problem with Zonekill ( so the conspiracy is mastered by both Polish and Romanian internet providers )
I couldn't play my division game with MidnightWraith because the internet connection in the region I was located then was so bad that it was impossible to download the Zone Files.
I think you really should be more careful when you accuse people of cheating, and what Ves said about the self-made rules was an extremly reasonable thing.
Anyway, it seems that in H4 TOH every player will have a Honour Level and that will help you in finding game partners more likely to be honest.

my two cents on this

Anyways, when a player drops, it is standard policy to try to continue game, if no response after a week, the save can be sent to the honor council or disputes section, and at least partial credit is given, with a 'blackmark' on the opponent who did that.   Its simple, and it happens daily.  Use the system correctly, and you wont get screwed by anyone.

i will use the system correctly

Like yesterday, i started 2 games and neither finshed. Nor did one of my opps come back. So.... i wait a week and then sent in the save? Sure, i will sent them in a week, i already know they will both show up again but not finish the game. If i zm them they will have some stupid excuse. I can tell you i have more unfinished then finished games. If everybody would sent in their unfinished games you would have even more work on your hands and we all know you donīt want that.

If i sent in saves every week, wouldnīt you be a bit sceptic about me? Sending in saves every week is just over the top. It would not make me happy, it would no make you happy and surely it wouldnīt make my opp happy.

Maybe iīm a rare case, but i have more unfinished then finished games for sure.

Sorry for being so sarcastic, but i donīt see succession befall me when i start sending in saves every week.

I wonder.... are there people who actually send in saves of unfinished games? I can understand there are, but i would not do that unless i am very very upset with my opponent. This does not mean i will sent in saves if they do not make any attempt to finish games.... iīm used to that. What does tick me off is when i ask people if they can continue the game, they say they canīt because they are playing. Well i can understand that, but only 15 minutes later they are actually playing!! There are lots of things to keep people from finishing games, usually their connection failed to reconnect, a girlfriend just showed up, they arenīt feeling to well.... you know the drill. I wonder what you want to do about that? I donīt email all my opps i played regular games with, for division itīs a different story.

Finally there is someone who experienced the same as me.
I gues i have 40-50 unfinished games against different toh players... and yes the excuses is similar as cheesus explain. I never send in any saves. i never got any credit for thoose unfinished games (not that i care today) but at the time all this went on, it was indeed very frustrating because i play damn for points and the excitement of playin tournament. What is worse that not having game finished!!!
But, what can you do.... i was in learning fase of toh and i was new about how things worked. But 1 thing i never use is HC. Somehow there is a reason that i 2-3 times wanted to leave TOH!! But hey.. now i found peace in playin allied with good and honorable BASTARDS ;op

Hmmm... Well it might be that Im just plain lucky. But actually I havent had so many problems with unfinished games season 3 as I had season 2. Actually I think its down to 4 or 5 unfinished games, and those ones have had nothing to do with crashing or anything, just bad timing.
I guess my point is that if ur reasonably respectfull to the guy ur gonna play, itll increase the chance of finishing the game manyfolds.
I did have one not so good experience recently, but that was part my own fault. Came home one friday night, abit drunk (Ok, very drunk) and started up a game, after we had played for 4 hours I suddenly sobered up, and became extremely sick, I asked if we could continue another day, but he said we hadnt agreed to that beforehand. Fair enugh, I thought, id stick it out. 10 min later I threw up in his turn, so I said hey ill report a loss, but cant we finish the game another day anyways. His responce was that "Well u concede, we can start a new game another day".
Well I just wanted to finish the game, see if I could make up for my extremely bad start, eventhough it wouldnt count for nothing. Hmmmm, clearly my own fault, but would have been nice if ppl would finish games eventhough they allready got the win on record.
I myself once took a win without finishing the game, but that was because my opponent didnt wanna finish the save, but just report a loss, I actually begged him to play, coz I like when the games are finished

its all about playin the ones you know. Some people in toh are so (insane might be wrong word) addicted they write down what players says to them, who to play and so on. Actually i dont see any excuse for not finishing the game. If you suddenly has to leave computer you must offer you opponent the win. I did that some days ago. I started a game and 2 hours later some friends showed up for allied game. i had made an agreement with them to play that day. But my game wasnt finish. I asked my opponent when i attacked his main hero at same time "what will be your next move"?.... He said ??? what you mean... "well" i said " there is 2 things you can do... and i see the 1... you will flee with main (lets say i was little stronger at that time) he agreed that he just wanted to flee and avoid war for now. Then i asked him "can we save game, please" ... "NOOO, i have so many unfinished game", Offcourse i understood that and therefor i told him my situation and i had to go to that allied game. "well, then i offer you win now" "Afterall i understand why you dont want to save" ...... Afterall its just a game.
hmmm... he was thinking for awhile..... "ok lets save"
Now game is saved, and to be continued when we meet again, but i think he should just have taken the victory i declared him...
My point is .... if you quit... you loose!!!
But most important is to be honest, and tell the true!!
