Some news in this interview, and some of it bad IMO.

Made some edits after talking to a person speaking russian.

Quote:
Q. CragHack:
Quantity of [skilov], places under [skily] and their gradation (BASIC, [adv], expert or as into 4- [ke] still master and [grandmaster]?)

A. On the system of [skilov] in detail we will describe only later. For the present I can say that it underwent new development… – not last role in [skilakh] and skills will play the class of character.

I think the improved skill system is likely to be a good thing.

Quote:
Q. CragHack:
Will in 5th [ke] possibility use chains of forces as in 3- to [ke]? Or is planned limitation to the [pdobnuju] tactics…

A. They will be

Edit:
Chaining of creatures is back... Bad news.
I had really hoped we saw that in H3 for the last time.

Quote:
Q. _Maximus_:
Heroes in the locks, only that race, by which you play or everything without to the selection

A. The probability of appearance in this lock of the heroes of title race is more

Edit:
This question is about if heroes of the player's race is more likely to be recruitable in castles.

Answer means: There is a bigger chance of a hero of the castle race appearing in it.

Quote:
Q. _Maximus_:
How many forms of the troops each race has

A. seven

Well, seems we have Heroes 3 number of troops in castle.

Quote:
Q. _Maximus_:
How many levels of upgrades the troops have (two as in the third, or more)

A. two

Seems there is one upgrade for each troop too, the heroes 3 way.

Quote:
Q. maiorov 3d:
There will be underground level?

A. Yes

Underground remains. * sighs * This means there likely won't be anything more advanced such as layers or similar.

Quote:
Q. stealth_nsk:
Will [junity] adhere each day, or once a week?

A. Once a week – each day was b not so interestingly

Oh, oh. Another thing which goes back to heroes 3. If they use the full heroes 3 implementation for creature growth I'd say this is a radical step backwards from heroes 4. (A system mixing the H3 and H4 systems could work well, but the heroes 3 system had some very bad things in it.)

Quote:
Q. stealth_nsk:
Army will be able to be moved without the hero

A. No

I think we already knew this one. Not necessarily either good or bad for the game.

Quote:
Q.D'sparil:
They [ubirut] selection system, which was in Iv? Or hydra? or dragons?

A. yes, they will remove

Another H3 choice in design.
No selection of creatures? I think this is also a step backwards. I'd very much have preferred them to mix selection and upgrading.

Quote:
Q. AlexS:
Will be increased battlefield?

A. The dimensions of battlefield will vary depending on the sizes of th armies e meeting on it

Not sure if this is good or bad. On one hand it make for quicker fights. On the other hand it could get too easy for melee creatures to close with ranged creatures.

Quote:
Q. AlexS:
There will be new not standard incantations (not the usual shielding or bringing damages, but something unique)?

A. Yes, incantations will be the most different, including besides those attacking and shielding

There will be new types of magic spells. This sounds good.

Quote:
Q. _ `Doc `_:
How many levels of monsters will be in the game?

A. the question is not entirely intelligible

It seems creatures will no longer have levels. Perhaps we are returning to Heroes 2 styles in this respect, and they will be balance the output of a fully built town instead.

Quote:
Q. Messalot Of lich:
In the game will remain the caravans?

A. no

Another good H4 feature ditched. I begin to wonder if they will use anything at all from Heroes 4.

Quote:
Q. Strashun:
will the stacks of [junitov] obtain [ekspu] as in heroes 3.5?

A. No

Edit:
No creature experience.

Where did you get this interwiev from anyways?  A czech or a Slovak site? I can see many terms that would be used over here...
As to the last question in the interwiev yes it deals with creature experience...To state it completely "Will creature stacks gain experinece as in Homm3 version 3.5"

I would not believe everything what is said in those interviews, since Farbrice himself warned that the manual and the pre-alpha game was leaked and is about a year old. So it's not really Heroes V. We still need to hear, what Fabrice will tell about it, though he refused to tell more.

We gave lots of questions to Fabrice on "is H5, H3 in 3d" and he promissed to give out more info. One thing is that we shouldn't start panicing from some interviews on not very relying source.

I think I've said this before, but the Nival+Ubi guys are going for the easy way out of H5 challenge, thinking that releasing a fresher version of H3 will convert most inveterate H3 players to H5 players.
I'm sory to break the news to them that so far H3 looks more playable (at least in the network) than H5 and reversing the recipe of H4 (dump the graphics for the ideas) won't attract any more people than H4 did. In the best case scenario, it will attract few non-Heroes-fans who will play it a little for the graphics but that's all.
And I'm really not trying to be overly critical now, but really, I don't see many original ideas so far, starting with the creature design, which is very common at best. I would call it "grotesquely-modernized and bad-taste filtered" if I may.
Oh, and the idea of shrinking the battlefield to parallel the army size: if this is true, then it's the end of strategical battles, and will bury the game eventually. (afterall, the small field is not original, it's right there, in etherlords or disciples)

Vlad: my point exactly !

It's as if Ubi doesn't understand what made Heroes4 mediocre game. So they decided H3 remake will succeed.

There are many things about H4 that make H3 look primitive.

what would that mean.. that the homm4 team didn't pay enough attention to graphics?

huh, the homm battle is so much different from etherlords. why don't you compare with e.g. mortal kombat battlefield? you might want to keep your melee army small when going against archers to keep the battlefield smaller maybe? this could also be a strategy, no matter if you like it or frown upon it.

Here's a good translation by .Net (a Russian! )

Quote:
Q: How would you define the main innovation of the project?
A: I think it is gameplay acceleration without loss of its quality or depth 8|.

Q: It means the same, but more compact and faster? Then how the words about improving the strategic component of gameplay should be understood? Doesn't it mean some scale, wide map view, thoughtful planning above the battlefield etc.? In short, what do you mean with "improved strategic gameplay"?
A: As said on the game site: "More flexible town development line will allow usage of various long-term schemes, and new possibilities in character development enhance your tactical arsenal. Unique distinguishing features of each race will make your gaming experience more diverse and brighter!"
I understand these are common words carrying no information, but it is everything we can say yet. Let the details be a surprise .

Q: Will there be a random map generator or at least a map editor in the game?
A: Yes.

Q: Minimal and recommended system requirements?
A: The game is still in a stage of development when system requirements are not fully formulated.

Q: DVD or CD? (it would be optimal to have both)
A: At the moment it is too eraly to discuss the format of the product, since all minds are concentrated on development. But most likely Heroes V, as well as our other recent titles, will be released in both formats.

Q: What multiplayer modes will be available?
A: There will be the hotseat and some more modes. We'll tell the details a bit later, but I can say that multiplayer will become more dynamical, and there are several ways to prevent you from getting bored of waiting for the opponent to end turn.

Q: How many castles will there be?
A: 6.

Q: Will Sandro be back?
A: The game will feature both new heroes and heroes known from the previos games of the series. It's being discussed which.

Q: Will there be the swamp castle, the Fortress?
A: We'll announce soon what castles will be available besides the human castle and the Inferno.

Q: Is the "6 castles" thing fixed? Are you planning to add more in addons or during development?
A: Yes, there will be 6 castles in the game, and this number isn't going to be changed. It's too early to speak about addons.

Q: Will there be some balance between good and evil races?
A: The question is not quite clear . I can say you will be able to play each race and decide for yourself which are good and which are evil .

Q: Are you planning to implement a build tree in the castles, when some buildings prohibit construction of others? This concept existed in Heroes IV in rudimentary form, but it was never implemented quite right.
A: The town construction system will become more flexible, as a consequence giving the player more freedom in choosing the build order. It will allow filling the game with a number of different tactical schemes and will help less experienced players whose main problem is often the lack of resources.

Q: Will heroes participate in combat themselves?
A: Heroes of certain classes will be able to directly participate in combat.

Q: Are you planning to release a fansite construction kit including buttons, frames, backgrounds and the game logo?
A: A good idea! Maybe not soon, but closer to the game release we'll try to create such a kit.

Q: Will it be possible to include language packs in the game?
A: It's too early to talk about that.

Q: Number of skills, skill slots and grades (Basic/Advanced/Expert or also Master and Grandmaster)?
A: We'll explain the skill system in detail a little later. For now, I can say it was reworked... character classes affect their skills and abilities.

Q: Are there different attack and defense types? (In IV melee and ranged attacks were distinct.)
A: No.

Q: Will it be possible to use chains of troops like in III? Or are you planning to limit usage of such tactic?
A: It will be possible. 8)

Q: Can you only hire heroes of the race you play or any race?
A: Heroes of the castle's race are more probable to appear in it.

Q: How many unit types does each race have?
A: 7.

Q: How many upgrade levels will units have? (two like in Heroes III or more)
A: 2.

Q: Will there be an underground level?
A: Yes. 8)

Q: Will unit population grow every day or once a week?
A: Once a week - it wouldn't be interesting otherwise.

Q: Will an army be able to move without a hero?
A: No.

Q: Will the Heroes IV-like alternate creature build system be removed?
A: Yes, it will be.

Q: Are there people in the development team who participated in championships and tournaments for any Heroes game?
A: Most of the developers are experienced fans of the Heroes of Might and Magic series, many of them participated in championships.

Q: What is Heroes for most of them - singleplayer or multiplayer?
A: Everyone has their own preferences , so we try to make both singleplayer and multiplayer have their own good sides .

Q: Will the battlefield be expanded?
A: Battlefield size will vary based on sizes of the fighting armies.

Q: Will their be new unusual spells (besides defensive or dealing damage)?
A: Yes, there will be a wide variety of spells, including those neither offensive nor defensive.

Q: Do you really have free beer? And for what purpose?
A: Yes, we really have free beer 8|. For the purpose of drinking it in a good company :*.

Q: Can you clarify the random map generator/map editor issue? Your previous answer doesn't state which one will be implemented.
A: Sorry 8|. There will be both a random map generator and a map editor. A boy and... a boy .

Q: Will there be a campaign editor?
A: It isn't decided yet.

Q: Somewhere in the news it was mentioned that Nival is also working on the Might and Magic universe. So this is the question: Are you planning to continue such a good idea as Might and Magic 6 [10? - translator remark] by the Nival company?
A: Nival is indeed working on the Might and Magic universe, for the Heroes of Might and Magic V universe is a part of it. Ubisoft is planning to create a single integrate universe of Might and Magic. Out further plans are a secret yet .

Q: Will we see beautiful drawn portraits of heroes and creatures?
A: Certainly! 8)

Q: How many creature levels will be in the game?
A: The question is not quite clear. o_O

Q: Will it be possible to edit units in the map editor?
A: Possibilities of the editor have not yet been discussed.

Q: What platforms will be supported, can we expect Heroes V being ported to GNU/Linux or Mac?
A: Such technical questions have not yet been discussed.

Q: Will there be combined artifacts?
A: There is no precise answer yet.

Q: Will heroes on the global map move immediately after clicking the mouse or only the path will be shown after the first click, without moving the hero? (It isn't clear from the video - if there is a second click, the cursor doesn't reflect it.)
A: The path will first be shown, otherwise you can get lost...

Q: Will you be able, like in Heroes III, to perform all actions with mouse without touching the keyboard?
A: Yes.

Q: Do the developers read this forum, and will any of the proposed ideas implemented? Or do the ideas fall on deaf ears?
A: Of course, we read everything very thoroughly. Unfortunately, we can't reply as often as we want to... Concerning ideas - yes, perhaps some of them will be implemented, one way or another.

Q: Will caravans remain in the game?
A: No.

Q: Will it be possible to record replays to share your completed games with the others?
A: At this stage of development such options have not yet been discussed.

Q: Will unit stacks gain experience like in Heroes 3.5?
A: No.

1. Of course I think they negliged the graphics. I mean, lust look, I don't have to say anything... we've had this discussion on the forum a million times about castles, creatures, etc... If you consider variety, in some cases (heroes, for instance) yes, there's a wealth of design there; but all this fades away when you enter a castle and recruit a venom spawn or a vampire.

2. I have to sincerely and joyfully admit that i haven't played etherlords and not even seen mortal kombat. (but I've lost 1.5 hours of my precious time watching the movie, and I'm still so sorry) So I cannot comment on that, except that etherlords have a combat screen of approximately same size like we see in some screens of H5. Wether the tactics are different, what can I say, maybe... for the first time I will try to avoid recruiting ranged units in the beginning of the game. Is that good or bad?

In the best case scenario, it will attract few non-Heroes-fans who will play it a little for the graphics but that's all.

well first of all they bringing back something that was considered as lost in homm4, like upgrades or more units(7(h3) vs 5(h3), not including upgrades or alternative units path in homm4, with that that would be 14(h3) vs 8(h4)) in castles. Talking about converting heroes3 fans to heroes5 players, I am darn sure I will pre-order heroes5, when it will be available. Homm4 graphic was awfull(starting from heroes portraits, ending with town enviroment(there was some good moments still though, like woods or archangels), add inbalance and lesser units variety, and you will know why most of homm3 fans hated it. Im sure homm4 would be fat better if 3do would invest more in designers and programers, and wouldnt have rushed the game release

Imho homm series was always about variety(starting with units, ending with possible tactics) and exploring it. I have played homm3 since realise(online last 2 years too), and time from time I still found things I didnt know or wasnt sure about. And you know, that is great

To all those guys who say "H5, H3 in 3d" or "one step forvard, two steps back", etc, etc. First of all, even homm4 producer agreed, that homm4 wasnt so good as homm3. homm4 however was mostly played not by hardcore players, who didnt see homm3 or didnt know it that well as good homm3 players did. The point is that such players will play homm5, even if true homm fans will be back to older version of homm after first try. Also I think there was already conclusion that there(in this forum) is more homm3 fans than homm4. Same story goes to homm tournaments(toheroes.com for example). Its no doubt that ubisoft knows such numbers, so doing game by bigger fans base, even when most of homm4 players agree that homm3 is great game, is wiser.
Also I would like to mention that some things in homm4 was just not hommish(wow, sounds kinda gay ), like creatures ramping adventure map without hero, one more step in that direction and we would have "Heroes5: the RTS" or "NON Heroes5". So i would rather have 2 steps back and one in right direction

Now talking about heroes5, that darn combat field is really too small.. However maybe units in smaller combat grid will have reduced movement? that would be rather good idea, than having it non reduced And I still hope we will be able to select combat size before playing map.

Just my two cents

zhukass:

your comparison (8 to 14) is very unfair.

In case of H4, you get 8 UNIQUE units per town. In case of H5 (if they make it like H3 in this aspect) extra 7 differ little from original versions. At best they get one ability, and it's not all that common.

On the other hand, in H4 creatures differ a lot.

Medusa or Minotaur - one is shooter, the other is melee.
Orc and Bandit - one is shooter, the other melee.
Level3 - fast melee with spell, or fast flyer with shield
lvl4 - flyer or hydrish melee.

Let's look at other towns:

Life:
1: archer or melee
2: ranged ballista or pikimen
3: melee or ranged
4: fast melee or flyer

Death:
flyer and melee
flyer or melee
shooter or flyer
flyer or teleporter (matters with sieges, and various abilities)

Order:
ranged and melee
ranger or melee
ranged or melee
ranged or melee

Might:
melee and ranged
melee or flyer
ranged or melee
flyer or melee

Nature:
flyer and melee
ranged or melee
flyer or melee
ranged flyer or melee
===============
===============

Ok, I made myself needlessly verbose, but my point is clear I hope. In Heroes3 you may have more creatures, but they're more alike. Additionally in almost each case you choose between flyer, melee, and ranged.
