Woock--

I knew that Duke3D was the first popular Build game, but I knew nothing about Wolf3D's engine to draw any groundbreaking conclusions. I didn't have a computer until 1995, and I didn't play a Build game until around late 1999. My overall knowledge of FPS engines is rather low.

And I'm not entirely sure if HoMM3 uses the engine of Warlords

Whaddaya mean you're not sure?!? The two of them match each other poifectly.

The levels are linked into one long episode. Well, it's not that long, but it takes some time to beat. There are four episodes total with the original Blood game, add another episode with the Plasma Pak, and then a final one with Cryptic Passage.

Zombie soccer is neat, but quickly loses its novelty once you plow through your first thousand Zombies. I have a lot more fun setting Cultists on fire.

You mentioned not liking the Gill Beasts. They're ugly, alright. Too many teeth for comfort. Underwater, they're your worst nightmare. On land, they're as explodable as the next Zombie.

In Wolfenstein 3D you could not jump, crouch, walk up- or downstairs. No looking up or down, and the height of the ceilings was always the same. If Wolfenstein 3D had a top down view, it'd be as 2D as pacman.

Other games on that engine include Blake Stone - a rather enjoyable sci-fi shooter that attempted to hide the flatness enforced by the engine by introducing an elevator, through which the player traveled to different levels of the game. This also allowed to make the game less linear, as you could, to some extent, choose the order of beating the levels.

Then came Doom, a technical revolution. Its engine allowed for a much more diverse environment, with variable hights, looking up and down and also a wider variety of guns, compared to Wolfenstein's 3 + knife.

After that was Duke Nukem 3D with its Build engine. This one didn't bring much for the techs to drool over, but it was possibly the first ever first person shooter to feature strippers.

I thought it'd be interesting to share that I cannot play Wolf3D anymore. The last time I tried was over a year and a half ago. No, it's not because I couldn't run the game properly; it's because...

I get major Motion Sickness playing Wolf3D!!!

The action and movement looks very smooth and very quick, but I'm not gonna try to remember all those technical medical terms I've read about. I was relieved to know that getting dizzy while playing games like this was/is normal, and that I wasn't a strange case.

I noticed that if I don't play later games like Blood or Quake II for about a years time and then return to play them, I'd experience some initial dizziness. Not enough to make me sick, but just a weird feeling in the eyes that goes away quite fast after the first few minutes. Good thing, too, because I don't think I'd be able to give up Blood (the game) that easily.

I have played all of those games.

Blood is a pretty good game, but not much storyline in it, as Guitarguy has mentioned below.

And as the title suggests, the game has a lot of blood.

You get to kick the heads of zombies that you have killed, or any other creature you have killed, kick it like a football, you get to see their guts and everything when you blow them to pieces, and all that other stuff

Shadow Warrior is a game that I like slightly better then Duke Nukem 3D.

Only because it just looks and plays better, imo.

And also imo, it has more blood and gore, and some of the stuff he says is pretty funny, and the weapons are pretty cool as well, but not as cool as those in Duke Nukem 3D, like the shrinking gun, and the freezing gun.

I found Redneck rampage to be alright, although not as good as Blood, DN3D or SW.

I have not tried the build engine in Blood, but I have tried it for both Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior, and imo, it is pretty hard to get into.

Soon, I might have to try Blood out
