@Dingo: OMG!
@Ceres: OMG!  Which mission got you stuck?

Btw, is The Settlers RTS or turn-based? It's also from Ubi, right? If it's turn-based I'm gonna give it a try, I don't like RTS.

Actually HoMM V Academy mission 3 if I remember correctly. The turns take forever! 30 minutes each or so. Oh well finished HoF.

Comanche 4, really just too easy. You get bored. Trust me.

Need for Speed: Most wanted. Too easy and not as entertaining on tuning as NFSU 1/2. I used FIAT Punto only and was number 6 on the list. Somehow I got bored.

It's RTS but if you can get your hands on number 3 you should definitely give it a shot. It's a game that you can get totally lost in and it's a very different RTS than mos
t because it's emphasis is on resource management not battle.

The Settlers is very much real-time, because you have your settlers build structures, grow food, mine, etc. It was originally by Blue Byte, but I think Ubi took over in more recent years.

Dunno about the new ones, but Settlers 2 and 3, although real time, were very slow paced and rushing to do everything would almost surely lead to critical mistakes. Taking your time to think things through is usually safe enough.

The 3rd game was pretty reasonable, I think. The 4th game, however, added more military challenge that can easily overwhelm you. It's crossed the line several times in my honest opinion.

The moment you start a game in Settlers IV, the AI has a full base and immediately begins to train soldiers (they have mines with food and everything). You, the player, only start with a handful of soldiers to man some Towers and need to build everything from scratch. The AI attacks when it reaches around 100 something soldiers, and sometimes you'd be lucky to have around 50-60 of your own at that point. I've had to forget training swordsmen and just use archers to shoot the enemy's masses down from afar. The battles are often bloody regardless of what I choose to do.

Yep the AI has a huge advantage in the maps in 3 too.

Sometimes you have stronger starting army though and can win by just attacking with your starting forces

I didn't like the fourth one for some reason.

Amazons is better. Gold version of number 3 is the best and has huge amount of maps. Shouldn't be hard to find nowadays.

Number two on the other hand...is nowhere to be found. I have a russian version.

The fifth one is a lot like AoK. Skip it it just isn't worth it.

I kinda still prefer the 2nd one. Not having to control your military directly has it's points, and you couldn't just flood the enemy with soldiers either. The story was simplistic beyond belief though.

Might be easier to list the ones I have.  All the FF ones besides VI (which I havn't played).  Heroes I, II, V, HoF.  A few others, but mostly if I loose interest easy.  RPG's and TBS are about the only ones I will see out to the end.  Rest are too boring.  Some RTS are fun though .

*sneaks back to HC and peeks into the room*

I finished the original Starcraft campaign for the first time two weeks ago, and I finally completed the Brood War campaign today (also for the first time).  These have proven to be monumental achievements, as I do not consider myself a very talented or dedicated Starcraft player.  The going was tough throughout the final missions of both the original and especially the expansion, and I often doubted my ability to beat the game whenever I did poorly.  I found myself repeating the final missions numerous times and trying whatever worked.  In both cases, I never resorted to using cheats.  Right now, I'm still getting over the shock of finally overcoming the last Zerg mission (which was clearly Starcraft's greatest challenge).

With my casual retirement from gaming on the horizon, I'm just glad I finished the job.

Dude I suffer with you... honestly I do!! I'm the biggest Zelda fan in the world and I haven't played the Wii one yet because I don't want to buy one... But having played ANY Zelda only a bit without finishing it must be unbareable.

@Azagal: ZOMG, I know!  Although I'm worried about the series.  Its been a sortof "Guy in green saves the world" for the last ?16? games, which works pretty well, but soon people are going to ask for more.  The stories are quite good, but they need something new soon to avoid falldown.

My hopes are getting to play as Zelda, Link being gay and having to save a guy, or Link being evil.  All would be fun.

LOL I found the 8th mission on the Zerg the most challenging, not the 10th. Yet everyone keeps saying me that 10th is the hardest .
BTW Did you try the hidden mission ?

Yeah, mission 8 really gave me problems for a while.  The attacks are brutal throughout, especially when eight or so Siege Tanks consistutes one fourth of an enemy attack on your bases.  On one attempt, I would've won if I hadn't run out of resources (I didn't discover the two rightmost expansion areas).  On my very next restart, I used those two resource areas and won.

I think mission 10 is widely considered the hardest because the plentiful enemy attacks can really distract the player from making progress.  Since expansions are crucial to victory, a player can go crazy defending left and right.  I've found that the gap of "peace time" between enemy attacks isn't always enough when you're trying to take out one of the AI.  Simultaneously micromanaging your offensive and defensive forces can be a pain (especially if you mount an attack when another AI decides to hit your backdoor).  A lot of this applies to mission 8, as well, although the "attack from all sides" setting of the latter mission kind of adds to the chaos.

Mission 10 is doable, but it's oftentimes a major headache.  How well a player can tolerate and respond to that headache kinda determines victory and defeat.  What surprised me was the number of people who said they gave up and used cheats to win.

In the end, I guess both missions had their moments.  Both were pains in the butt. I would probably do a better job beating them a second time around, but I've had it with headaches.

Yeah, but it took me many tries in order to unlock it.  It was well worth it, though, since it's a fun break between two hideously difficult missions.

Oh well, in mission no. 10 (if I remember correctly), I just got rid of red terran within first 30 minutes or so, perhaps that's why I find it easier than 8th... .
