Wastelands Posters Please Read!
There have been ongoing discussions about Spam and the growing problem it creates throughout the community - these talks can be found just about everywhere now and I think it needs to be addressed here.
This is not a usual wastelands thread, Spamming here is not allowed, if you do spam I will delete it immediately.
The first thing I want to try to explain is that I am not writing this to 'yell' at you or anyone. I have stated all along that I do not believe those of you who are offending even realize what you are doing.
I will say too, that I think that a lot of what you guys write is pretty funny - I do not have a problem with any of you as members, and I appreciate the way you keep the VW an active and fun way to hang out at HC.
(here it comes....)
BUT!
The Wastelands is where Spam is allowed, nowhere else. Spamming the other forums does nothing but kill off those forums. I know that many of you do not feel when you post a funny one liner that you have just killed a thread - but essentially that is what is happening.
You will find that veterans will react harshly to this because they are tired of seeing the boards ruined by spam. Once again I will quote Sir_Dunco for those of you who haven't been following in the Tribunal

This is exacly what happens, and this is why people get so upset at it.
While the initial comment may be laugh your *** off funny, the result will be the same - it will kill the original topic if it is left to stand there, just in that you will get 50 replies about how funny it was.
If you do not know what type of posting is accepted in any given forum, read through it a while. Find out what you're dealing with before you start, you will have much less problems with vets there if you do this.
If a forum isn't interesting to you the way it is, don't decide to 'liven it up' with some VW funny, just don't post there.
There seems to be a feeling that members who get flamed for spamming aren't wanted, and thats not the case. Its the spam, and what it does to the forums that is not wanted. As much as posters who spam may feel that they have been disrespected by such comments, by spamming in those forums you too are disrespecting the posters who are trying to stay in tune with what that forum is about - and you are disrespecting the board rules.
From now on, when I see spam I will be deleting it in the forums that I moderate. It is not because I dislike anyone's style of posting, and certainly not that I dislike the poster - but because if it is allowed to go on we will continue to lose members who appreciated what the forums they enjoyed were about.
Please feel free to comment here, but again - no spam.

One more thing - some of you guys have been flaming each other pretty hard in here. I have always looked at it as typical wastelands fodder and don't say anything about it, I am mentioning it now because I think it is possible that it's growing beyond that.
If any of you feel that it has become too much and would like help with it, send me an IM and I will do what I can. But unless you say something to me directly I will continue to let it go (assuming thatyou are not breaking the CoC)

Just one minute, missy! A funny one-liner is NOT a spam. Not everybody has to write deep soul-introspective experience. Heck, thats not even awfully readable. You dont define spam by the length of the post, but by the content and how it contributes to the thread. And problem with the spam-kids is that they dont write funny spams, in most cases. I do think you should seriously edit this post and revise your definition of spam.

Thank you Pandora, if only this was posted a week earlier.
And Svarog, your right - just because it's a one liner doesn't constitute it as spam. There can be a quality post that can be a one liner, while it may be very very rare. But its typical that most one liner's are spam.

I didnt really think I was offering a definition - just an example. how about if we call spam any random thought that may have popped into your head, that you chose to write down before considering if it bears any relevance to, or adds to the thread in any way shape or form.
does that work for you?

My post was not intended to tell you how to behave, or be your HC mommy. My post was made because it seems that there is a split happening between people , and I thought by writing something it might help some people to understand the other point of view.
A large number of the posters here, to my knowledge, have never read the tribunal - nor do they read feedback threads in other forums , they do read what is here.
I do not want to start deleting spam posts by people without them understanding why I am doing it. That would only lead to people feeling unwanted.
You ask for respect in 'your' wastelands, and then try to tell me what I may or may not post here?
While you may see it as a threat of some sort - my intention is simply to try to alert members who are not aware of how the spam is being recieved across the board - with the hope of avoiding more problems in the future.

yes I would, if my message was to avoid random shooting accidents I would go to where I knew people with guns were to deliver it.
Also, once this topic has served it's purpose, my intent is to move it to Tribunal - but for now it will stay where the people I think could be helped by reading it will be sure to find it.

sorry i didn't mean MY in the posssesive sense... i meant it in the sense that it's like home to some of us...
I didn't look at your post in the sense you described and Im sorry if i came off strong. When I saw that you "stickied" the thread I thought it was here to stay....
you know how I feel about the spam discussions and I think we're all a little touchy these days... I'll edit the post.

EDIT:
I do feel that the MODS may want to start penalizing the "no spam" policies. I would just suggest that if you do, you explain how the post was spam.

The thing with spam Jebus, is that it multiplies at a frightening rate, understand that to write up each and every one would pretty much occupy all of our time.
I suppose what could be done is award the penalty and let the member see it before it's gone, this gives an opportunity to defend the post.

Well it could be stickied - but each new one would have to be, as it still will follow the wastelands rules.
I've no problem with doing that though - except it seems to me that perhaps people pay no attention to what's up there ... like this thread

so much so that you feel Im stalking you!!
I just think that if HC had an instant chat that alot of the daily crat crap would be minimized.. so maybe with the one chat thread, we could encourage members who just want to chat to use it instead of making new threads..

Shoutbox is a good idea but maybe theres a reason its not in HC. uh, waht damage can it do I dont know lol anyways.
One liners related to a thread, wouldnt even fit in a different conversation, so a daily chit chat or shoutbox wouldnt be the solution. One liners need judgement I guess from mods. Some are ok some are other than Ok
