I think that because America is the only nation 'allowed' to use them (and who decides that is a totally different argument altogether), I don't think that they will be next to use them because it goes against their entire ideology. However, I'm sure that they would be next in line, hypocritically firing on whoever fired first.

We can only hope that if Democracy means anything, this will not happen.

Well, if the insurrectionists in Afghanistan continue to hide inside mountains, like the Taliban did in e.g. Tora Bora, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Americans deciding that the time has come to test their small, tactical bunker-busting A-bombs. After all, they do have a reputation for using humans as guinea pigs on a large scale.

If that won't be the first, I'll go for a dirty bomb set off by terrorists (although Jebus brought up an interesting point), or an escalation of the India - Pakistan conflict. I seem to remember hearing that the nationalists in both India and Pakistan are flexing their muscles and growing in strength (measured in popular support, of course).

But hey, who knows?

As for Israel, I doubt that they would do anything so rash. After all, their relationships to neighbouring nations have greatly improved over the last two decades, and the threat of an Arab invasion seems almost non-existent today.

When it comes to the Taiwan issue, I hope that the Americans would stick their finger in the earth, and let China take Taiwan, if it comes to that. The sovereign of that tiny, insignificant piece of land isn't worth the detonation of even one small nuclear warhead. But then again, who knows how many millions have been killed uo through the years, because of symbols and the pride of powerful leaders?
