What is the War Room of Axeoth

Greetings,

I am one of the moderators to this forum, as well as the designer of the Heroes of Might & Magic IV CCG & Tile Game. It is a game that brings the world of Heroes IV offline to your tabletop in what has been called the ultimate fantasy wargame.

The Heroes IV CCG & Tile Game is being released this month by DGA Games under license from Ubisoft Entertainment and will be distributed worldwide. It has been previewed by both indutry insiders and the players on the street at Origins Gaming Convention and received exceptionally high marks from those who have played it.

The Heroes IV CCG & Tile Game strives to mirror the computer game in almost every way. A few things are added, a few things are taken away, but the general feel of the tabletop game is that you are playing the card / board game that the computer game was made from, rather than the other way around!

In this forum, those who will soon be hopelessly addicted to building the perfect deck, collecting the perfect card sets, and developing the perfect strategies will be able to ask questions, post their strategic theories, and find out about upcoming Heroes IV CCG & Tile Game events.

All content in this forum will have to do with the tabletop game specifically, so the difference between this forum and the Lands of Axeoth will be dramatic. Deckbuilding ideas, tile setting strategies, session reports, and rules clarifications for instance which will be important here, would be irrelevant in the Lands of Axeoth. Likewise, cheat codes, campaign tricks, and other computer game specific topice would be out of place here.

This forum will start out slow, but as the tabeltop game is officially released, you will see a significant flow of information through this outlet. I will kick it off myself with a posting of a link to the rules, (a large download), the game's official website, and the boardgamegeek.com entry about the game.

Wow. I must say this is an excellent idea? I looked on that website for prices and couldn't find any.

Also, will this cover every hero and monster in the h4 game? Including expansions?

I'm sure you know the divide between Heroes 3 and Heroes 4 fans. Are there any plans for a Heroes 3 card game? I for one would much like that.

Kudos to you and everyone else involved in that project!

Hello... Just a word or two!

Well... I can't wait either. I've been working really hard on all the cover art and packaging.... over the past months and felt like I have gone crazy a few times, but now that it's getting so close to coming out... I'm really nervous.

another question

i breifly browsed the site and saw that this costs money. but the question is, "is it only available over the net or wll it be out at the local mall?"

now some impressions

i dont like it mainly because it looks like it will be very slow to play and be complicated (but this is purely from looking at pictures, no further education). also it costs money

if it was free and it was quick, i would be going around saying

"so, who wants to lose next"

FAQ: Is the card game like the computer game?

Quote:

We made every attempt to make the game similar to the computer game. And, in playtesting and most demonstrations, we have asked everyone the following question:

"Now that you have played the card game, do you think it accomplishes the purpose of the computer game effectively?"

Over 80% of the respondants say that it accomplishes the purposes of the computer game BETTER than the computer game.

Only 4% of the respondants actually prefered the computer game to the card game after having played both.

The reason for this is that the computer game itself is essentially a board game played on the computer. It is very similar in mechanics to many strategic board games like Axis & Allies, Civilization, and others. This is true of almost all turn based strategy computer games, but we chose to translate Heroes of Might & Magic because in our opinion, it is probably the best turn based strategy game ever made, and adds a dimention of variety like no other since it has a fantasy mix masterfully woven into its design.

Well, yes, as do most things, the Heroes IV CCG & Tile Game costs money. But the replay value of this game makes it well worth the investment. I would say you would be hard pressed to find a CCG or Board Game that people are giving away for free!

As to the second point...Complicated is a relative term. We have eight year old kids on our playtesting team that are masters at this game. Most of them learned how to play in less than 20 minutes. Now, it takes a little longer to read the rules and learn to play without the benefit of someone teaching you from prior experience, but, we have posted to rules so you can download them before you decide if you want to try the game out. If you have played the computer game, you will find the rules very easy to learn just from reading the rules.

Here is that link again:

http://www.dgagames.com/HMM/Art/HMM_IV_CCG_Rules_1.0.pdf

Let us know what you think about the rules after you read them.

Will the board game just be about battles? Or is there the requirement on building your town, purchasing creatures, etc?

Is there More?

Yes actually... In HoMM 4 CCG & Tile game you must level up your towns and your heroes while keeping your town safe and going on quests to aquire more equipment for future battles as well as more troops... you can have more than one town and you can mix the decks and have for example have a chaos/death deck which as you heroe levels up, can learn the spells for that deck: chaos/death, while also learning the primary and secondary skills for those classes. Other possible combonations include might/nature, life/order, might/order .... so you see there are many options for this game and because the board you play on is put together at the beginning of every game, like a puzzle, it is virtually impossible to play on the same terrain twice. As a result of that you are always having to come up with a new plan of action. I hope that answered your question...

Are the card decks similar to that of Magic the Gathering?  Some cards are rare to get for example - The Black Lotus from Series 1.

From what I have been told there are no rarity levels in this game. There are a large number of cards (nearly 700)and a large number of heroes that a player wanting a full set will certainly be trading to complete (see the Card List on the DGA site). But no inherent rarities where you only get so many of a certain rarity in each booster.

Sounds like it will be fun for gameplay

... but missing those rare cards will take the excitement out of it from a collectors point of view.

I don't know, with about 300 different named heroes in the set as well as 47 unique artifacts, people will probably still get some fulfillment of their collectible urges.

There just won't be a bunch of "chase" figures that you can't play the game without.

Got it  Being a Heroes fan, I will most likely collect these cards anyways.  If Heroes IV is a success, hopefully Heroes III will come out with a set of their own cards

Wouldn't it be funny to have a HC version of this game? The heroes will be the people of HC and the art that is designated for each hero will be their avatar

But there wil be a collective sort off feel to the game as you try and build the perfect deck.... There will be cards that you'll want but may not have and that is where the booster backs come in very much like "Magic" has the boosters.... And "Heroes"  cards do not look like "Magic" cards, they look like the art from HoMM 4... and is completly based on HoMM 4...
