Empty towns?

Hi all!

Dont you guys and girls think its very empty in the towns?
I mean it misses inhabitants. Instead of just recruit the creatures in the dwelling we can actually see them in the town. They may stand and talk to each other or they may walk on top of the castle as guards.

Some can also walk in the market and shop crocerys or something. Every town will have a shipyard now wont they? There can be workers in the harbor drinking and singing

My point is that I think it is to little life in the towns.
What do you think?

Funny, I was just goofing around with Heroes 1 the other day, and I had forgotten all the little folks hanging around town.

It's well known I'm not really one for 'eye candy', but in this case, I think I'd like it. The towns seem kind of sterile and empty these days. (The exception being the dragons wheeling around the Dragon Cliffs in the Rampart)

Of course, maybe there's a reason for them all hiding inside their dwellings these days.
One dwarf to another: " So dere I Vas, yust hangin' around, and de next t'ing I knows, I be off wit' some blonde bimbo on a horse, who tells me we gonna go pick a fight wit' some freakin' trolls because SHE wants de shiny t'ing dey're guardin'. Next time, I stay in de dern cottage and not stick my beard out de door, Ya betcha! If she come fer me , I hide under da bed. Let HER go git hit on da head wit' a big rock!"

I had the same thought just a few days ago...
The dragon cliffs gave Rampart a lot of life.
Good idea!

There does need to be a little more life in all of the new towns.  For exsample, if what Incubus says is true, you could have White Tigers Walking around there dwelling.  Or have a burst of fire frome the Dragon Cave once in a while.

I also agree,
Maybe if 3do could take note of this thread.
When you click on the tavern, you could actually see people telling you the stats, or possibly observe the heroes for hire.

Cool!!!!

Brilliant Idea!!!!!

Expand on this, we can have lost souls flying around the necro townhall and babarians praticing axe throwing at practice yards and peasants singing lullaby at the acedemy and lunatics sweeping the floor and beholders supervising them and elves shooting arrows at shooting yard and blah blah blah....u guys can add on.

The other think that i notice is that the only buildings we have are all those buildings that we can build. they should have more buildings around the town just to add a flair to the atmosphere.

Anyway this is not just eye-candy as most of u think, its about quality.

Interactive citizens

It would be great if there is life in the towns. But it would be greater if you can talk to the citizens. For example - you click on a dwarf that is walking near the City Hall. It tells you what the people in the town want:
"We want a Tavern" or "If only we could expand our territories" or "We are afraid of the Tan player". Of course, all the citizens will tell you the same - I don't believe that there can be different texts for each citizen... but it would be good to know the mood in the city. Something like Caesar 3.

Town-folks

I think it will be better that town-folks will be interactive in the town and not sitting in their dwellings. When I want to recruit someone I'll click on him and he will join my army.

I agree also, the present towns are boring, and need a touch more life added to them (or death to the necropolis)

I loved Caesar 3 .  Still play it occasionally.  Maybe each citizen could have a different way of getting the same point or 2 accross to you.  Scholars would make it all eloquent, and peasants would lay it to you straight.

I had even mentioned this on the NWC/3DO forums way back before HOMM3 was released when I noticed this change in the HOMM2 towns.  Touches like the elf making his arrows? (it's been a long time), were rather nice.

Off-topic Bonus Applied.

A simple and very good idea.

I only wish that 3DO/NWC had listened a bit more to it. True, more buildings in H4 are animated but the towns lack the distinct feeling only walking citizens or flying dragons can give.

Another thing which puts me off a bit about the towns are the dwellings. They are there but are just too small so you don't really notice them. If more effort had been put into these and similar things, then Towns would have retained more of the town mood, which was mostly lost between H3 and H4.

Now thats a good idea. The towns in homm3 and homm4 seemed... well, almost deserted. Wouldn't it be great if homm5 will reflect back on homm1, with all the creatures and townfolk hanging around the place.

Agree!

Good thought! In homm3 the towns looked much more better. Like, in dungeon the atmosphere was so dark and cool. And the BD dwelling was so shiny and big. i liked the way that there was some kind of a water source down there where trogies could live and beholders could have a cool swim And harpies had a great high cliff to live in.....
Maybe in homm5 (if it will be released) the towns will be as much unique as they were in homm3.
