What excites you about the game?

Greetings
I have been off for a long time and just got in to take some sneak look lately at Homm5.

Now while i am getting excited about the game, some of it is actual the cold tyrkey that the absence off good strategy games for a while had created in me.

While some information had slipped out, i most say I havent seen anything that looks like turning my expectations into great hope or big despair. I am still waiting for some info that can move my strategy gamer expectations.

Some off it is offcause the history of the transition from Homm3 to Homm4, make me very suspicius off what you can actual conclude out off the informations slipped about the game!

I must say I also wonder now why there is this security setup around the beta , where testers are not allowed to speech and tell the great news off a good upcoming game. It makes me wonder if the creators are insecure about the games qualitys! Or maybe they just don't want the fokus off the testing to turn into community forum war of whats to be changed according to old favorites ideas from the past.

I in general feel ok about where its stated that the game returns to Homm3 like solutions. Except the hero chain- oh i don't like that (maybe limit creature transitions to 1 hero swap in a turn)
I like most off the battlefield info. But I am not sure I like that magic spells can go wrong!
It looks a little to me like a fast paced internet realtime combat, and not the chesslike battlefield there is more off a puzzle solving than an action game!
Pls Not too much Luck and Morale effects!

In general there is nothing in storyline, design grapics, towns and units that really thrills or chills me.

but several multiplayer modes, both sounds interesting and dangerous! Again it needs a really well balanced game to be played good in different modes! Depending on what the modes are!
I personal think its here the biggest challenge is for Homm5 to meet the needs for some good ways to play the game online. I mean what if they come up with a genius way to have same time turns (including battles) meaning that there is a lot less down time. Or what if there is a combatfield mode , where you duel on random battlefields with purchased armys, playing some really fast paced duels. I would love that
Or what if you could play Homm5 like Utopia online against 100.000 people at once, all playing on there own map , but with all being able to sail/teleport to any other map!

there is so many possibilitys. And to create something good there a gaming community could excel in , now thats a challenge, and i hope thats what developers is up to, and thats what the secrets now is about.

with regards
JonDiFool

I'm most excited by new copy protecion measures, which are going to run in the background, decide which programs you are or aren't allowed to run, and slow everything to a crawl.

Not the basic setting of Good vs.Evil

That the game is more like Heroes III than IV

They are not Night Elves, they are Dark elves who worship spiders and other original ideas not taken from the forgotten realms

I don't care much about most stuff resembling eachother, or ideas shared throughout the fantasy basis of books and games, it's how it's done. But copying an entire society and calling it the "all new town" has even managed to tick me off.

To me, the elvish history is severely lacking, as is the dominatrix clothing. And they had to throw a dino in too (Cold ones from Warhammer anyone?).

(It's not just the elves I'm finding it hard to accept, but since hammering is kinda OT, I'd stop there)

To adress the title, I'm mainly excited about creating some mean 3D landscape in the editor. I also look forward to the day when a mod have managed to replace the Dark elves with the Forge.

I am excited about the whole game, mostly because of the difference between H3 & H4, and I have been a big fan of the whole series since I can't remember when.

When I heard H5 was coming out, I thought "hopefully its better than H4".  When I heard Ubi was going to be producing it things got even better after seeing what they are capable of with games like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and Rainbow Six.  Although, this is a totally different genre than those games.  Still, the change to full 3D graphics for the game can only improve it, hopefully to be better than H3(well not necessarily better, but at least equal in terms of replay value), since that has been the one of the four currently out that I play the most.

Nothing really. I'm not excited about it at all..

Civ4 has taken the same step.. it's gone straight from a H3 version of the game (Civ3) to H5 (Civ4) in 3D and it's just not fun to look at.. so much going on at once it's insane.

I noticed that nobody made any mention of game music here. That's another factor I'd look forward to. If the game turns out good and so does the music, then great! If the game is bad but has good music, then at least we have something to appreciate. If the music is bad, well, we can turn down the speakers.

I hope they'd follow good examples from the past:
*H2 POL Wizard Town theme
*H3 Rampart Town theme

Good point there, GG. Has there been any news concerning who will be composing the music? I've heard rumours that Rob King is involved, can anyone confirm that?

On top of the (mostly) beautiful in game screenshots, it would be nice if there were sample music clips up for download so that we fans will get a taste of what is to come. Afterall, Heroes is well known for its forte in music.

"- If seen some screenshots, and I don't know if you still can change this but : in a battle when your want to move with a creature, you now see a huge green field where the creature can walk/fly to.
I think that this realy ruins the game, please don't show these stupid green fields, this isn't a old Korian Game!
In Heroes 4 they had a nice way for this, just a nice feet that shows how much turns it takes to go to a location on the battlefield."

In Heroes IV, you can turn the "field" on and off, that is great. If you want to use it, then you use it.

(Otherwise I believe that the black dragons/hydra are level 4 creatures)

haven ?

I would like to discuss some off the features that are revealed

"Haven players will be able to upgrade low-level troops (e.g. Peasants) to high-level troops (e.g. Knights). However, it costs a fortune."

this i am really suspicus about!
because it does look very unbalancing to me.
Ok i don't know how it works in details, but there could be some real dangers to it.

First itcould mean that haven is not played acording to get producktion , but to get income.
with more than 1 town for each player haven simply transfer the extra gold into powerfull creatures, where as the other player has to demolish/rebuild to get more produktion

imagine haven vs any other faction? on a very  rich map. NOT FUNNY.

Also haven has a real last minut defense option against any raid against an weak garrisoned town, if money are saved, to change some peasants into more powerfull troops. Don't looks promesing for the multiplayer fun?

And haven can custumise an army pretty specific to utilize the strength/weakness they look for "shooter-mellee balance as exsample.

Ok but its stated that its going to cost a lot to upgrade, well it has too , but whats the use off it then.

This might be a really difficult balance to get right!
And i fear it does end looking like its narrowing the diversity off maps playable into something like the "H3 random no necro allowed." No rich maps with a lot off towns for haven?

Or there is some restriction on how many creatures can be transformed each week , in wich case its just an aditional production!

Sylvan yay!

I am all over the team Sylvan! In H2 and H3 I liked them a lot, but now I just have to play them in H5.
I like EVERYTHING about that team!

As far as I'm conserned I think that this H5 beats by a mile all the other Hero's vertions!
Except the two evil teams, but I wont comlain!

I also like it how they put Dark Elves in it! That was a good idea!

I mean i have read that Hero chaining would be in H5.

I hope it would still cost some movement for both heroes to transfer troops.

I found that the single biggest mistake in H3 was the troop transfers. Without that, alot of the useless skills made more sense. And

Well H4 movement defently wasn't the solution , but just some penalty for troop transfer like -6 movenpoint for both heroes , would do alot.
