Special abilities for FAQ
Jonathan posted this a few weeks back in response to a question about Mummies Curse ability:
Quote: Mummies curse everyone they attack, hit or miss. This is the same with the poison specials, the aging and wekness specials, and the terror specials (I hope I am not leaving any out...). BTW, a Ghost's aging effects and the Waspwart's weakness effects are cumulative, but cannot reduce anyone's scores below 0.[\quote]
I'd like to review and ensure these abilities are used correctly:
Squires, Unicorns, Waspwarts, Mantis, Medusas, Nightmares, Mummies and Ice Demons state some version of "Those who survive and attack..." which means even if the attack misses, the effect works/has a chance to work.
However, Ghosts and Venom Spawns abilities affect those who survive after a successful hit.
Is this correct?

No. Hit or miss, the specials effect whatever is left.

Alrightythen!
I'd say that need to be updated in FAQ since Ghosts and Venom Spawns state there had to be a hit.
Thanks Jonathan.

Well, If I understand correctly, hero with 100% magic resistance is immune to all specail ability attacks that are magical. I think it is like the game.
Best,

As it stands now, that is not the case because there is a difficulty in deciding what is magical and what isn't. Poison for instance, from a venom spawn...its not magical, just poison. Fear, is it an aura thing, or is the creature just freakin scary? For now, magic resistance only protects against things that are spells (Ice Bolt from a Genie, Fireball from a Fairy Dragon, Magic Fist from the Magi, etc). Let me research the other possibility though, and see if there is a way to word an FAQ simply enough so that Magic Resistance will protect the user from things like turning to stone (which is not mirrored in any spell card). For now, if the text says "May cast a spell..." (like the Faerie Dragon, Magi, Evil Eye, Genie, etc) then that effect is subject to magic resistance.
If not, Magic Resistance does nothing. THis is a problem when it comes to the Mummy's Curse - which is clearly a spell, or the Thunderbird's Lightning Bolt attack, which might be a spell, and then again, might be a physical thing (like an electric eel). I will keep you posted on the results of this research.

Sorry about that...as it stands, for official purposes, poison and curse does in fact work on black dragons. The problem is that FAQing or rules updating can become difficult for a player to keep up with. It does play differently than the computer game in this respect, unfortunately, but to prevent a bunch of rules lawyers running around with 10 pages of eratta at every event, I think letting it stand as it is stated on the cards is the best course of action.
