Collectability

I have recently become disenchanted of games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Warlord because of the sheer amount of money you need to put into them in order to stay competitive.  I'm attracted to this game because it doesn't seem like you need to keep buying cards in order to have the most cutting-edge of decks.  How accurate is my assessment of this game?

I think you're right. I'd say more but I've explained my thoughts on this aspect of the game in my review under the "cards" heading.

TKaz84-
This is one of the best points of HOMM CCG.  There are no "ultra-oh-my-god-rare" cards, no holographics, a set format in every booster pack (which comes with 20 cards) and starters that come ready to play.  Plus, of the whopping 700+ cards in the set roughly 300 of them are heroes that are unique only in name.  So the collectibility of the game is much lower than the tradability of the game.
On top of all that, there is a finite number of possible cards from the PC game.  Expansions are going to be done in the form of scenarios, not more cards.  The re-playability of this game is virtually endless.

It is quite simply in a class by itself.

The first scenerio was just released here:

Ah, I was wondering if they were going to do any proper expansions, the available source material (TGS and WoW) is thin to say the least

Surely they're going to do something, though? There's artifacts and creatures enough if you put the expansions together to justify at least a expansion + original release, yeah?

Thanks for the informative posts.  I agree with Psychobabble that at some point (dependant on the succcess of the game of course) I would like to see new cards, possibly based off HOMM V?  Also I for one would personally like to see SOME differences in the heroes, rather than 30+  of each hero type that are different only in name.

No doubt about that...  but with all those heroes there's a lot of room for some house rules to be thrown in.

HOMM V will be a completely separate and new CCG game if and when it comes out. Different mechanics will require different rules. Also if HOMM III is ever brought into the CCG realm it will be a different game also. (This all according to discussions with Startune at Origins and Gencon.)
